Edna Harding [00:00:47]:
Thank you for tuning in for another episode of the Entrepreneur Podcast. My name is Edna Harding, and I just wanna welcome each and every one of you guys this Friday. I hope that you had a wonderful week filled with God's tangible presence and love. Before we begin, let me just invite the holy spirit into this episode. I truly believe that the Lord has a message specifically for you today, and I'm so excited to be nothing but a vessel of his truth. So father God, we just thank you holy spirit for your presence. We invite you Lord Jesus into this space, into our ear gates, into our eye gates, into our mind and into our hearts. Pray, oh God, that as I I speak, oh God, that they will not hear me, but the voice of your truth.
Edna Harding [00:01:38]:
We love you. We honor you. We thank you for all these things in Jesus mighty name. Amen. Well, guys, I am so excited that I'm a little bit awake today because last week I was a bit tired. This week was busy, but I actually got some rest. So praise the lord. Today, we're not just going to be talking about business strategy, although we've been talking about business strategy pretty much the past few weeks.
Edna Harding [00:02:06]:
But we're actually gonna go a little bit deeper because as I have been speaking with my clients, speaking with my peers, speaking with, my audience, especially on LinkedIn, I realize that the holy spirit wants to do a deep work. Specifically, we wanna dive into the soul of what we build, why we build, and whose approval we're building for. Now I know you probably think you're gonna go, you know, where you were going with this, but just stick around and just just humor me for a little bit. Okay? And just know that I myself, I'm I'm expecting the holy spirit to give me revelation even as I record this episode. Okay? So first I wanna share with you a quick story. So there was once a business owner who had two doors in front of her. K? One door was very flashy and the label read success status and spotlight. Okay.
Edna Harding [00:03:19]:
Now the door shimmered. There was a lot of praise. There's a lot of partnerships and a lot of applause. So that's one door. The other door was very plain. Call it faded wood. And the sign read faithfulness, integrity, and obedience. K? No crowd, no camera cameras.
Edna Harding [00:03:44]:
Right? Just a white, quiet whisper, soft voice. This is the way. Walk in it. If you guys didn't hear me, this is the way. Walk in it. So she paused. The flashy door promise followers, fast growth, financial favor, the quiet door, promise something deeper. It promised peace, purity, and purpose.
Edna Harding [00:04:17]:
And that's attention we're talking about today. What does Jesus consider righteous versus what the world celebrates as good? Now, whether if you're scaling a seven figure vision or just trying to survive your next payroll cycle, this episode is for you. Okay? If you're new here in this podcast, we talk about all things business and life God's way, filled with practical wisdom as well as biblical truths. And so if this is the kind of stuff you're into, welcome home. You found a podcast that's you're going to love. And I've been getting a lot of, just great feedback from you all. So thank you so much for sharing. I have some amazing news at the end of this episode, so stick around for that.
Edna Harding [00:05:09]:
Okay? So let's go ahead and dive into it. Let let's let's break this down. Let's talk about, first of all, the world's definition of goods. Of goods, not goods. Good. Good. Okay. By the way, guys, I just had this amaze so I had, lunch with my pastor's wife, the new church we found here.
Edna Harding [00:05:30]:
And, we went to some amazing gluten free, restaurant that had just really delicious desserts and delicious food. Oh my goodness. So if I sound a little bit sleepy, it's because I am satisfied. Okay. So but I'm awake. Okay? So, anyway, I say all of that. So just bear with me guys if I sound, a little bit, like, in the zone. Okay? So but I'm not in the zone because I'm not being led by my flesh.
Edna Harding [00:05:57]:
I'm being led by my spirit. Alright. Back to reality. Okay. So the world defines success in these ways. Okay? Wealth is proof of wisdom. Right? Visibility means value. If it works, it must be right.
Edna Harding [00:06:14]:
Okay? That's what culture says. That's what the world system says, but Ecclesiastes calls all that into question. Look at Ecclesiastes chapter two verse 11. It says, then I Striving after the wind. Striving after the wind. Striving after the wind. Have you ever chased the wind? Okay. Have you guys ever tried that? I don't think so.
Edna Harding [00:06:50]:
But that's what you're doing. That's what all of us are doing. That's what some of our days feel like. Right? Let's let's let's let's let be more specific. Okay? What does the world celebrate? Okay. Material prosperity. Like, oh, if they have the fancy cars, the fancy outfits, the fancy looks, the fancy whatever, if they, you know, million dollar checks or whatever, that is real prosperity versus divine approval, meaning God approves of me. Okay? So, the next one is personal branding.
Edna Harding [00:07:29]:
Okay? It's all about, oh, who has the biggest brand? Who is well known? Who's this? Who's that? Versus who is the most moral leader? Who has who is a person of integrity? Right? Now let's look at how the world celebrates, oh, strategic compromise. Okay. Well, maybe I'm not speaking the whole truth. Maybe I'm selling the masses a lie, but I I made it, and people are gonna believe everything I say versus wisdom. Okay? Whereas, you know, teaching people the truth, telling people the truth that it's not a overnight thing. And that even if you spend $30,000 here, you're not gonna get immediate success. Like, it's it's a process. It's a journey.
Edna Harding [00:08:14]:
Okay? The world celebrates outcome over obedience. Okay? But even in Christian business spaces, these ideas also creeps in. We say, well, I just need one more launch before I rest. I just need to finish this before I relax. I just need to do this before I spend time with my family. You know, I'll I'll adjust the mission later once I'm established. Okay. I need to tweak this a little bit.
Edna Harding [00:08:41]:
I need to say this part so that you can cater more to the masses more versus what God told me to do. I'm gonna focus on this market because this is where the money is versus this market because this is not making me any money. Or we say something like, well, God knows my heart. God knows my heart. He knows I have no choice. This is all I I can do. So what we do, we bend the rules. K? My friends, I want you to hear me.
Edna Harding [00:09:09]:
If the root of anything you do is compromise, the fruit can't be righteousness. K? The fruit can't be righteousness. And the thing about it is God is looking for a righteous people. So let us define what is the standard of righteousness according to the mouth of Jesus. Okay? Let's look what Jesus actually values. Alright? So the first thing is if you look at Matthew chapter five and seven, it said so I mapped Matthew chapter five two seven. Sorry, guys. I got alert on my computer, so I'm like, what is that thing? Okay.
Edna Harding [00:09:50]:
Jesus doesn't offer some sort of motivational seminar. He actually offers a revolution of the heart. He says, blessed are the poor in spirit, the meek, the merciful. Right? He goes on and on and on and on. He teaches quiet generosity over public performance. He teaches forgiveness over self defense. He teaches obedience over optics. He teaches hard purity over brand polish.
Edna Harding [00:10:20]:
K? In Matthew chapter six verse one, it says, beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them. How do we say, go, I did this for this person. I did this for this person. I donate this for this person. I made this person. Like, why? Why? So that we could be seen, so we could get applause by men? Okay? You know, Proverbs twenty one three puts it very bluntly, and I love this verse. It says, to do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. K? To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
Edna Harding [00:11:01]:
So in remind you're thinking, well, I am, you know, spending I'm giving a lot of money to the church. I'm giving a lot of this to that. And but then we are not caring for the things that God cares about as providing justice according to heaven's standard, and we're not doing the righteous things or doing the things that God told us to do. Instead, we're following the ways of man. Again, he cares more about the righteousness and justice than the money we put into the church pulpit. K? Or the money into the church not pulpit. What is it called? The offering plates. I'm gonna ask you this question.
Edna Harding [00:11:42]:
I want you to really be honest with yourself. Are you building for what the world calls good, or are you building for what God calls righteous? Okay? Now let's let's bring some examples. Okay? Because I think this will help you see. So there was a software founder that turned down a $3,000,000 offer that would have if he took that offer, they would strip down all of his faith based content. So he walked away from a lot of money, but he kept his witness. Okay? Months later, God opened a bigger, more aligned door. If someone offered $3,000,000 so that and tells you to water down your faith or water down your walk or water down this, or to do certain things that you know, where God against God's word, would you do it? Would you? Here's another example. A logistics CEO chose to retain employees during a downturn instead of chasing margin.
Edna Harding [00:13:03]:
How many of you know people who would do that? So he took a personal pay cut, lived out Proverbs twenty seven twenty three, which is know the condition of your flocks, and he built a loyalty driven culture money can't buy. K? So he chose people over profit. I've been in a lot of, corporate stuff, and I've seen a lot of corporate stuff. And I can tell you a lot of CEOs don't operate like that. They'll rather let go of thousands of employees and get a pay cut. Alright. That's the difference between the world's way and God's way. So let's look of another example.
Edna Harding [00:13:48]:
There was a startup leader who passed on a magazine feature because they wanted to scrub the faith from his story. They didn't want to talk about his testimony. They don't wanna mention Jesus. And so he chose obscurity, meaning they're not gonna know him over compromise. Are you willing to pass down an article from Forbes or an article from Bloomberg or an article from whatever, k, to be featured in a top 40 over 40. If they said you couldn't mention Jesus or you can't mention God. K? Later, this person got featured by a Christian outlet that reached more of the right audience. Maybe it wasn't the millions, but it was the right audience.
Edna Harding [00:14:40]:
Here's what I want you guys to see as we talk about these three stories. Each of them chose the plain door, not flashy, but faithful. And God honored it. God honored it. So I'm gonna give you guys some practical strategies. Like, how do we apply this to our lives? And so this is your little cheat sheet. Okay? Number one, Let's look at the filter of righteousness. Okay? The first question I want you to ask is, would Jesus call this decision righteous? Would Jesus himself if he was making the the decision, would he do it? Are you ensuring that Jesus is involved with every decision you make, especially the ones that's gonna affect other people or even your own business.
Edna Harding [00:15:40]:
Is he really truly king of your business or are you? Are you more focused on the numbers, on your reach, on your profit? Are you more focused on what it's gonna do for your brand? K. Or are you really asking, would Jesus say yes to this? K. Number two is the filter of the sermon. K. And how do you do that? Well, you have to block time for prayer. You have to block time for silence. You have to block time for reading the word of God, and include that in your daily planning. Okay? You wanna hear first from God before you build.
Edna Harding [00:16:25]:
A lot of times you build and then hear. That is the opposite way. And trust me, I'm not saying this because I had I do this all I figure it out. It's because I myself struggle with this at times because I know what I need to do. But then the Lord will remind me, nope. I know that's what your intellect says, but I want you to hear me on what I'm telling you to do in this particular situation. K? Number three, you need to build yourself a multitude of wise counsel. This is so important.
Edna Harding [00:16:59]:
We need to surround yourself with believers who will ask the hard questions. K? Not cheerleaders, but people who's gonna ask you the hard questions. And I realized that's what was missing before is because I was so prideful that I didn't ask for wise counsel. I just thought, like, I know I hear from God. I I make decision. But in reality, the holy spirit constantly reminds us that it's important to be in a community where you're surrounded by people who can speak life into you, who can see things that you may not see, who because, you know, the Bible says that he he gives pieces of the puzzle to and that is not what he says specifically, but essentially, it means that he gives pieces of the word or pieces of the solution to individuals, and it's up to us to come together and put the pieces together. He is the head, and we're the body. And the Bible says that we need like, the toes need the the elbows and, like, every part is important, and no part is more important than the other ones.
Edna Harding [00:18:06]:
And I think this is what's missing. And that's a lot of people are struggling is because we don't have good counsel. You need to surround yourself again with people who's not just gonna tell you what you wanna hear, but who's gonna really come to God, ask God for wisdom, and come to you with answers. This is what I found that's the most important thing for me is when I learned to ask for wisdom through people from God and didn't just run ahead of God or make decisions because it feels right or listen to my emotions because I was excited. This is when things started progressing for me. This is when God started moving for me. This is when I started seeing results for my labor. Right? Like, it's amazing to me how God is really I I I wanna say this.
Edna Harding [00:18:59]:
God is really strategic, and he doesn't wanna ever overwhelm his children. He never wants to give us more than we can handle. And and I'm so glad that he made me and allowed me to build at the pace that I am building. Even through the struggles, even through the challenges, even through the trauma, even through the spiritual abuse, even through the financial abuse, like, all those things incorporate in my business and and and church. Like, all of it was I am grateful for all of that because it helped me build something that lasts, something that was sustainable. Because, you know, scripture says that you could build your thing house, and I my business on either sand or on the rock. And I can firmly say that I built my business on the rock because I could weather the storms of life. There are a lot of people who built so fast and they saw, like, like, results right away and and the quick wins, made shortcuts, and all of those things.
Edna Harding [00:20:05]:
But I can tell you when the storms comes, and I'm telling you, the storms will hit. It will not last. It will not stand firm because they built their business or their house upon the sand and not the rock. Now that's another podcast episode, but I want you to ask yourself, did I build my business? Did I build my life? Did I build my family on the rock? Okay. Number four, I want you to take the long view. Ecclesiastes chapter three verse 11 said, he has made everything beautiful in its time. You know, let God determine your timeline, not culture. Okay? It's so hard because sometimes you, you know, when you do a comparison, we're like, oh, I get this much in three months, get this much, and I built a multimillion dollar business in less than a year.
Edna Harding [00:20:56]:
Okay. Well, that's great. Don't compare your journey. And especially if you know that they're unbelievers, especially when you know that when I say unbelievers, you you they know that it's obvious that they don't know God. Right? Or even if they do know God. Okay? Understand that when you're doing things God's way, he bases off individual character. And mind you, I'm not saying that those people who built really strong brands or really strong business really quickly is bad. All I'm saying is stop focusing on your like, stop comparing your journey with other people's journey because what happens is you start you start questioning God's hand in your life or God's hand in your business because you're comparing so much.
Edna Harding [00:21:47]:
And whether they built it on a rock or sand, that's not your prerogative. That's not your business. Let them do that's between them and God. You just focus on your own lane. But most importantly, you have to go at his pace. And I am so glad. Oh my goodness. I'm so glad that my business did not take off during that time, you know, when I wanted it to take off, before I had kids.
Edna Harding [00:22:13]:
Because I probably wouldn't be able to be a stay at home mom. I probably wouldn't have the opportunity to be with my children, until they're three years old at home, catering to them, taking care of them. I probably wouldn't be able to to, serve in the church like I did during those times as a stay at home mom. I probably wouldn't have been able to administer and help all those people that I help in the prison, the homeless individual. I probably wouldn't been able to do that if my business took off. The reason why I was able to do all of that and really be the hands and feet of Jesus is because my business did not take off. Instead, it was the opposite. I was scammed, and I lost everything.
Edna Harding [00:22:58]:
And I started over from scratch. But hindsight is twenty twenty. I'm glad I did that because I realized that, wow, life is hard for a lot of people. You know, building something without resources, without having access to things is really, really challenging. And it made me see, like, how difficult it is for a lot of people. And it and for some reason, some people is very easy because they have the right connections, they have their resources, they have this. But when somebody literally starts from nothing, it's more challenging, which is why I was able to build my programs the way the way I did is because I know all of the key components that needs to happen and that needs to to that needs to take place in order for someone to build something from scratch, and I included that as part of the program. But I wouldn't have learned that if I didn't go through those challenges.
Edna Harding [00:23:59]:
Right? And now as of this day, because I was building in public, even though it was embarrassing, even though it was really, like, gosh, humiliating, it was felt like, oh my gosh. Like, you are looking so bad. You're looking like a fool. I just found out that on Favicon, and I don't know if you guys have ever heard of this, but Favicon is basically a software that ranks individuals on pretty much all social media space and things like that. Well, I just found out from my stats and mind you, I just joined us maybe, like, a week ago just to kinda see because I I'm part of this other program. I just found out that on LinkedIn, I am well, first of all, in, in, in what do you call that? My brain's going blank. In LinkedIn, I am in the top six of voices, specifically, who works with entrepreneurs, which are small smaller businesses, who's building in public. In the world so that's in The United States, you know, number six.
Edna Harding [00:25:14]:
And in the world, I'm number nine. Number nine in the entire world. Okay? Why am I saying all of this? Like, everything that happened, k, everything that happened in my life, in my business, and all led to this is that he was preparing me, like, all that hard work building through the good, the bad, and ugly. He was all of that. He used that so that I could be a witness of building something that last. K? That I could be an example, that you have to embrace the process. Okay? And I'm saying all of this to get this point across that there is a process. There is a process.
Edna Harding [00:26:04]:
And I know it's not gonna sound sexy, and I know it's not gonna sell you, and I know it's you're not gonna wanna hear this, but I'm here to speak the truth and love, my friends. If someone is promising quick results, like in thirty days, in two weeks, and this and that and that, it's all lies. It's manipulation, my friends. It's manipulation. I bought every single problem program that you could think of that all promise the same thing, specific results at a certain time because that's part of the whole marketing tactic. Right? Did it ever happen? No. It did not. It did not.
Edna Harding [00:26:43]:
Okay? Very few people do that. And the ones that are able to build something quickly are those who already have a following, period, who's already built trust. But when you're starting from scratch and you have nothing, you don't have any proof, it's gonna take some time, and it's okay. Okay? It's okay. God wants you to steward a little so you could be faithful with much. And remember, he doesn't like pride. He doesn't want us to be prideful. He wants us to know that where he takes us is not because of our own doing, but because he wants us to know that it's him who got us there.
Edna Harding [00:27:25]:
Okay? So take the long view. I know that was a long winded explanation, but that is so important right now because I am tired of people falling for a bunch of stuff. Like, I keep paying for this. I'm paying for that. Again, I'm the same way. I did it. I fell for it. Got this T shirt.
Edna Harding [00:27:45]:
And I'm telling you, my friends, it doesn't work that way. God has a set time. You can't manipulate the time. He has a set time, especially if you are called to business. He has a set time for your harvest, and you just have to persevere, and you just have to believe that God has you. Now if God tells you to hire someone or if God tells you, okay, I want you to work with this coach and do it. Okay. There were times when God did tell me to do that.
Edna Harding [00:28:14]:
And I'm like, what was that for? I just wasted this money so I have to learn this. So it, what I found is like when he tells me to be like, hire this person or hire this person or hire this person is because he's trying to help me see like a way of doing something to include in my program. So if I look at all the coaches and my mentors and the people that I hired and joined the programs over the years, okay. Gosh. When did I first hire my first coach? When I was 19 years old, and now I'm 40. Okay. Twenty years of mentors and coaches. Like, I learned a lot from everybody, and I picked and choose what I can do and put in my programs.
Edna Harding [00:28:50]:
And but it wasn't like this person had all the answers. I had to seek it out just like I don't have the all the answers for everyone. It's like I have a piece of the pie. And I truly believe that God does that on purpose because he doesn't want us to depend on one person. He wants us to depend on him, and he wants to utilize the resources, whether if it's people, whether if it's things, whether if it's programs, to supplement what he's saying, not be our main source of food or main for source of direction. Does that make sense? I'm hoping making sense. Alright? Number five, you need to redefine the win. Okay? Heaven scoreboard looks a lot different from the world.
Edna Harding [00:29:38]:
Okay? Especially in this world where it's all about likes, about comments, about shares, algorithms, scoreboards, and all those things. It's different with God. Okay? Remember that if even if no one claps, k, no one claps for you, you don't get a single acknowledgment of your effort, but Christ does. Is that still a win for you? Is that still something worth celebrating that Jesus Christ is so proud of you, that you did a good work? Because my friends, let me tell you this. This is a rude awakening. That's the only one that really matters. Is is Jesus Christ, the son of the living God, the one who created you, k, the one who formed you in your mother's womb, the one who spoke life into you, does he say, well done, my child? And that right there is probably the biggest piece of advice you could take from this episode. Are you living for an audience of one? And I know you've heard this before, but I want you to really think about this.
Edna Harding [00:30:52]:
Are you living for his applause and not the applause of man? Because here's what I've learned. Okay. The world chases results. Jesus is looking for righteousness. He's looking for people of faith. He's looking for people of trust. He's looking for people who are courageous. K.
Edna Harding [00:31:14]:
You don't need to play dirty to prosper in the kingdom. You don't need to settle. You don't need to strive and hustle like everyone else does. K. You don't need to do all that. You just need to believe and receive and obey. Believe God, believe what his promises are true, receive his instructions and obey period, Period. So here's what I want you guys to think about this week.
Edna Harding [00:31:47]:
Okay? I want you to identify one area where you've defaulted to the world standard, and I want you to surrender it back to God. I want you to write it down in your journal. Okay. Meditate on, on Proverbs three, five and six, where it says trust in the Lord with all of your heart and, you know, on your owners understanding. Okay. God is looking for a remnant of leaders who loves righteousness, who loves his worth. I mean, his word, not worth word. Okay.
Edna Harding [00:32:20]:
Who loves his eyes. He loves his approval more than recognition from men. That's what he wants. He's looking for that. And that's what I was striving to be. I'm not there yet. I I wish I could say that I'm all there. I'm not there so many times when I fall short, but I'm always reminded of the mercy of the God that are new every morning.
Edna Harding [00:32:45]:
That great is truly his faithfulness. And he's not prolonging the purging or the process to hurt us or to burn us or shoot, or to make us suffer. He's doing it for our own good because he doesn't want a success to destroy us. So let's go ahead and pray. Father, teach us to walk the narrow road, Lord, to lead with holiness and to build lasting impact that reflects you, Lord Jesus, in everything that we do, may you be glorified, may you be honored and may your name be recognized in every aspect of our lives. We love you. We honor you. We thank you for all of these things in Jesus mighty name.
Edna Harding [00:33:35]:
All right. So before we go, I have some amazing news. I've been working on this for the past week. Long story short, the new Edna Harding app is live. Yes. I have an app, guys. I'm super, super excited. This isn't just a tool.
Edna Harding [00:33:54]:
This is truly a movement in the marketplace for bible driven, spirit led entrepreneurs like you. Okay? Faith driven, goal chasing, giant slaying. I I don't know what else to say. Just basically, this is an app for us to communicate with one another. K? Inside the app, you'll find some exclusive teachings that I've done. And mind you, I'm just putting it together, so there might not be a lot of stuff in there. I mean, there's enough. There's enough for you to to for at least, I don't know, two or three weeks, but I'm gonna add more stuff in there.
Edna Harding [00:34:33]:
I'm gonna add more behind the scenes content there. I'm going to, there's gonna be a designated space, especially for the community, those who are listening to my podcast, for you guys to drop your prayer request so that I can pray for you guys on a weekly basis. There's going to be a place for you to ask questions, that I can answer in future podcast episodes. There'll be maybe some meetup events. I have a new, global directory that I just started building. I finished, I think, a week ago. And mind you, obviously, I'm still in the building phase. I'm still in the phase of getting it all out there, but the holy spirit told me to just to go ahead and release it.
Edna Harding [00:35:10]:
You know? It it's I've done a lot, and I'm proud of the work that I have done. I have put my my, my heart and soul, my spirit. Like, I put in a lot of time and all the content there, and I pray that it blesses you. It's also a way for you to know my story. It's a way for us to connect. It's a way for you to contact me also. I have, my TidyCal link there. My I have a, a way for you to communicate, especially if you are interested in joining my programs.
