Scott Schutte:

Psalm one twenty three. I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven. We keep looking to the Lord our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal. Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy. For we have had our fill of contempt.

Scott Schutte:

We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant. This is another one of, the songs of Ascent as the Israelites would travel to Jerusalem, for the festivals that they they had. And really what this Psalm is getting to is seeking God for justice and seeking God in areas where we feel like we are being looked down on or we're facing hardship in some way. And so I want to just challenge you because we all face those types in our lives. We have times where the world is against us.

Scott Schutte:

Perhaps it's our boss. Perhaps it's the government. Perhaps it's our neighbor. Perhaps it's our family, our kids. There's all kinds of people and circumstances in life that can feel like the world's against us and like things just aren't just.

Scott Schutte:

We see this all the time in the news. And really, have to lean on God to be our source of justice. And so we're going to just pray together that God would be our source of justice. God, thank you for seeing all things and for being a God who doesn't delight in evil but delights in good. I ask that you would help us not to take justice into our own hands, but that we would trust and have faith in you, that you are gonna make all things right.

Scott Schutte:

And in times where we struggle to believe that, I pray that you would help us to believe that. And all this we lift up in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
