It is 20 hours past midnight and another week of work is upon us, but no matter what kinda start to it you had we’re ready to help you enhance it and/or get over it, carefully getting that dirt off your shoulder no matter how much there is, dusted off the calendar as Feb 28, 2022. This is Danno leaving loud sounds and smiling faces in my wake, on the mic in studio 2, GFN HQ at the base of Sajik Park in downtown Gwangju, how do you do? Hoping each and every last one of you had a brilliant weekend, and we’re thankful you are joining us tonight from wherever and whenever you do it whether live on the radio or later on the stream. It’s Monday and that means both that I have all my favorite fresh joints ready to roll in our first hour New Muses Monday, and Kat Bass is also on the attack in hour two for our Popcast weekly feature, which all starts in part 3. For right now though it’s time to mark a milestone for the lovely and indomiatable Cindy Wilson as she turns 65 today, but we’ll talk about all that she has done in a remarkable life after The B-52’s drop one on us. THIS is The Drop.
The B-52’s – Dirty Back Road
The Drop is officially on the air all over Jeolla-do this Monday evening, bumping with the B-52’s on a Dirty Back Road to start our broadcast with a little history, as we are wont to do pretty much every night.
This is Danno as always between 8 & 10 on GFN, sending shouts to all of you who are joining us tonight. Also sending happy birthday wishes to Cindy Wilson, who was born on this date in 1957 in Athens, GA.
That was Dirty Back Road for our TIGHT (or) feature for tonight’s broadcast, and while you might know that Wilson has a very distinctive almost signature contralto sound to her voice, you might not know that she was the drummer for the band during live performances.
This tune was from the band’s 2nd studio album Wild Planet, released in 1980. It’s also one of the rare tunes where it’s just the ladies leading the way vocally without lead singer Fred Schneider doing his thing, and in fact was an A side on a 7” single release for the album in the lead-up.
In total, Wilson has written much of the song catalogue for The B-52’s catalogue, including Love Shack and Private Idaho. She also contributed vocals on Chop Suey by The Ramones, while also appearing in several films and TV shows both in the US and abroad.
An amazing life, happy birthday Cindy Wilson. May there be many, many more.

Okay, so let’s rock some of the new stuff out just this weekend and we’ll keep it with the ladies. On deck we got Florence & The Machine to be followed by Deb Never and Dreamer Isioma, all three of which we’ll let you know a bit about after they’ve gone up in the space elevator and returned. THIS is The Drop on your New Muses Monday.
______
Back on The Drop. What’s happening tonight, Drop Tops (KOR)? Danno here, studio 2, GFN HQ in downtown Gwangju, absolutely loving having you with us this evening! Kat Bass joins us later on for our Popcast feature 2nd hour, but let’s summarize that troika of tunes we just let dance in the stars tonight. That was…
Florence & The Machine – King (…this is Consequence of Sound’s song of the week and we can’t really argue that choice, as this has been getting huge love everywhere. This is the lead single to the band’s 5th studio album which has yet to be named, and all we gotta say is we can’t wait.)
Deb Never – Crutches (…always good to see Deb Never pop up on our feed. This is a bit of a pre-tour standalone single before Deb hits the road with Slowthai and Omar Apollo shortly. Deb Never’s debut LP was 2019’s House On Wheels if you’d like to check out more, which we highly recommend.)
Dreamer Isioma – Sunset Drive (…and speaking of highly recommended, one of our favorite up-and-coming singers is out with the Goodnight Dreamer LP as of last Wednesday. Another album that’s getting a lot of love and hype over the weekend, we recommend you give the Chicago native some of your own, a very solid album definitely worth a full spin.)
Alright, so we still got a little room to flex the new biz out this weekend, so we’ll throw a couple more on the decks before we hit halftime. To begin the end of part 1 tonight we have Regina Spektor and a tune called Becoming All Alone. This is the lead single to her 8th studio album Home, Before & After, which drops on June 24 via Warner. And finally, we have Porridge Radio with their latest and this is called Back to the Radio, which is the lead single to their next album which still has yet to be named & officially announced, but it must be noted that this was amongst Pitchfork’s favorites this weekend, amongst others. THIS is The Drop on your New Muses Monday night.
Regina Spektor – Becoming All Alone
Porridge Radio – Back to the Radio

II
The Drop recommissions the blah blah blah machine as we ease the gas to begin the 2nd quarter tonight. Danno here, maintaining not mansplaining, and of course Kat Bass will be in tonight after the bells ring 9 times to start our Popcast attack. As far as what we just let dance in the air, that was...
Black Sea Dahu – One and One Equals Four* (…this is a band that I absolutely cannot believe remains under the radar, as they are certainly flying very high on this record, just out Friday. The album is called I Am My Mother, and features Janine Cathrein and her Swiss cohorts really doing some amazing things, with this emotional, almost brooding tune being just a taste of a very diverse palette. Do check in full if you liked that tune, I Am My Mother by Black Sea Dahu.)
The Sha La Das – Silver Linings (…our main soul man in Texas Paul Schalda is out with this tune with The Sha La Das, which is a Staten Island-based vintage soul & doo-wop crew. This is the b-side to a 7” release on Daptone called Just For A Minute, released earlier. The vinyl is available everywhere as of Friday, so go bump it digitally or get it on wax and support some independent soul outta NYC.)
Pod, socials, etc…
So, let’s return to the music right now, and we have big stuff on the way from Robert Glasper, Otis Kane, and Joey Pecoraro up ahead to keep the soul burning hot this evening, and we’ll talk about all three of these show favorites side opposite the sonic sorcery but for now THIS is The Drop on your New Muses Monday night.

Magnetically on the move as the clock dictates and we near halftime tonight, this is Danno coming back from a soulful 2nd quarter block right there on our New Muses Monday evening. Kat Bass is on the attack once again as our Popcast Monday starts the 2nd hour and finishes off the show. To the recap presently though…
Robert Glasper feat Q-Tip & Esperanza Spalding – Why We Speak (…the absolutely stellar pianist and producer out of Houston is out with his highly anticipated Black Radio III as of Friday. This one has a ton of artists on the collab with contributions from A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip, which you heard right there along with other stalwarts like Common and H.E.R. Do check in full if you dug it.)
Otis Kane – Wanna Love You (…another silky smooth one from one of our favorite on-the-rise artists in LA right now, this is the latest standalone from Kane just out last week. He just dropped his 2nd career LP November Love Notes last year, along with his debut Purple Blue in June, so keep an eye on this cat he is just magic and a super nice guy to match. Big up, Otis Kane.)
Joey Pecoraro – The Roman (…another on-the-rise name here over the past couple of years, especially with his co-producing credit on Adele’s latest album 30 is this Michigan artist. The Roman seems to be part of a larger project still unannounced as previous releases over the past several months were also The Mouse, The Shaman, The Frowner, and The Warden which is certainly a pattern, but we can’t call it for now guess the wait is on.)
Okay, so halftime rapidly approaches so we better spin a couple quickies to finish the hour. Up next is HONNE with their latest called I’M BLESSED, which you might remember dropped on their latest LP LET’S JUST SAY THE WORLD ENDED A WEEK FROM NOW, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? from late last year. This is a new version featuring vocal contributions from UK-based singer-songwriter and pianist Reuben James. After that we have Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama teaming up on Beg for You to finish the first half, which admittedly we kinda cut just for time & playlist feel last week. This is The Drop on your New Muses Monday, and it is halftime.
HONNE feat Reuben James – I’M BLESSED
Charli XCX feat Rina Sawayama – Beg for You

Part III

Hot-Take

On February 20, 2022, Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II has tested positive for COVID-19. It's known she had met Prince Charles, who had also tested positive for the second time recently. Long live the Queen?

Go_A - SHUM
The European Broadcasting Union says that Russia will not be allowed an entry in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest because of the country’s invasion of Ukraine. The union said in a statement Friday that including a Russian entry this year would bring the competition into “disrepute.″

Fresh Buns

Kygo ft. DNCE - Dancing Feet
02.25.2022
On “Dancing Feet,” Kygo brings DNCE out of their three-year-long hiatus for an upbeat pop banger that features the band’s lead singer, Joe Jonas, singing about the loneliness he feels when his wife, Sophie Turner, is not home at the time.

Troye Sivan & Gordi - Wait
02.23.2022
Another collaborative single that is used for Troye Sivan's movie, "Three Months", has been released. This isn’t the first time Sivan and Gordi have joined forces — they first collaborated on the 2018 track “Postcard,” which appeared on the former’s Bloom album. Loving the chemistry.

The Knocks ft. Dragonette - Slow Song
02.18.2022
“Slow Song” is a collaboration between nu-disco duo The Knocks and Canadian electro pop singer-songwriter Dragonette. It has a nice catchy chorus to it that is sticking to me 'til now, even! Just gotta find that someone that'd be my slow song.

Suzy - Satellite
02.17.2022
“Satellite,” expresses feelings of missing someone you can’t reach but always lingering around them and trying to reach them. Suzy is an OG kpop member of MISS A, and I was surprised to listen to a band sound with a Britpop deposition. She didn't seem like the type. Interesting…

Tyga & Doja Cat - Freaky Deaky

Part IV

Woody - Wherever
02.22.2022
The young Korean singer-songwriter is out with another single. Woody's newest "Wherever" describes nothing but chill vibes under the night sky, just between you.. and me. Simple.

Brown Tigger ft. GIST - Like A Drama
02.26.2022
Collaborated by two Korean r&b/hip-hop artists, Brown Tigger and GIST, "Like A Drama '' is a part of Brown Tigger's 2022 project of releasing a new song each month. This will be his second, and I'm curious about the third.

kehlani - little story
02.24.2022
Kehlani returns with “little story”—the second single from their upcoming third album, Blue Water Road. When releasing the song and video, she's commented, "What can I say… a true little story. A song I really care about. A video I really care about. Enjoy it, it’s an honor to share it."

Tinashe - Naturally
02.14.2022
Last year, Tinashe released a new album, 333, her latest exciting chapter as an independent artist. She’ll be releasing a deluxe edition of the album next month on March 3. I love welcoming new artists to the world, don't you?
