You can see what's going on? What's going on? What's going on? Good day, Las Vegas. This is Veterans Affairs plus on 91.5, jazz and more. Good morning to my producer, director, Mr. West, we are so pleased that he and the rest of the staff here are fine after the incident that occurred a couple of weeks here on campus. And we certainly pray to God that everything will work out for all of those folks who were affected by that tragic incident, and will continue praying for the families of those professors who lost their lives. So indeed, as I mentioned last week, Dr. Whitfield and his staff did a great job. So certainly want to acknowledge those folks for the work that they did. And we also last week we had a veteran, Mr. Will pastor, Phillip Washington, I'm gonna have him back on again, because he's doing some outstanding programming within our community. And then of course, we had to have my golf buddy, so we had a big hope. And Ricky read on the show and they talked about what they're doing as far as golf is concerned, they got a great program that they're getting ready to embark upon. That's going to do training of young golfers. So we'll say a gentleman and we're going to do all we can to help you get exposure for that. Now ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased as I prepare to transition into the next segment after my analysis of course is that is window P Williams, formerly of cinnamon we'll be back with him on the other side. Doing doing well doing? Well. I know that you you've been doing a lot as far as because I know when people don't understand I don't think and appreciate the work that is done to put on the state's largest parade downtown. There's a lot of work that goes on throughout the year. So we certainly want to get an update because I know before you know it here we are at the end of the year already, practically at the zoo in the middle of December. So give us an update on what you got going on. And any other things you want to talk about this relative to our community, as relates particularly to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Jr. Committee.

Well, it did Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee, it was founded in 1981. And we were found it with the idea in mind that we have to address things in our community that's positive. If you look at how much turbulence is in the world, and you you just mentioned the UNLV incident. That was very tragic. I too want to extend my condolences to and understand to all people whenever whenever side of society that promotes violence, like the shooting of the homeless people, and unfortunately the situation that happened at UNLV we have to have another entity, another side of life that promotes peace. And that's what we're about. We're about promoting peace, all the negative out there. So we don't have to to live together, we don't have to go out together. But we have to respect each other. And that's what the Dr. Martin Luther King Movement is about. This is our 42nd year. And we are pleased to, to, to, to look at the things in our city that we've grown so much. You know, we started this parade with just mom and pop businesses like sight and sound to Lulu to Magneto, quick kit, Fordyce club, but now we have I mean, we had JP Morgan, the wind was the result world, MGM, you know, and the thing is, we want to respect those who started with us, right and move move forward. But the whole idea of the movement is to promote peace. So what we have in Las Vegas coming up this coming week, and we do a number of events a number of days to promote that effort. And our theme this year is living a dream. Together, we make the dream work.

Living the dream together, we make the dream work as our being for the 40/42 annual King week in Las Vegas. And you know, we have, you know, so many people come in from so many different places. We have a band from China that's coming. We'd have a couple other international groups. And really the Los Angeles parade that takes place that day, you know, I asked a lot of groups, why are you guys coming to Vegas, and not the parade in LA and people say we like Vegas, we get a good reception. We feel good here. The community reaches out to us. And then it is Las Vegas. So people want to come to Las Vegas to stay. So we're looking forward to great parade this year. Absolutely.

Excellent. Excellent. So, you know, and as I mentioned, there's a lot of work that has to be done. And let me piggyback on what you said about peace man and love it it is a sad state of affairs to include. Young man took a number of lives the other day unfortunate Said that young people lost their lives, man. You know, I was talking with some guys on the golf course this morning. We were saying Man, why don't people like that just take yourself out WHY ARE YOU affecting the lives of so many others man? It we feel this is really coward. It's a coward's way, and then you're gonna go affect the lives of other people. All those families have been affected by what this what this guy has done to include the gentleman who ran off as he hit a couple of us police officers the other week, but yeah, man peace and love to include over in the Middle East. And I, I pray for that every day man that we will have a ceasefire because, you know, you can take sides, we can take all the sides we want man, but there's a lot of innocence. And I know you know, being a military veteran, even though I didn't go into the war zone, I didn't go into as they call it the theater. But man, when when when when you have war, a lot of innocent people get affected by you know, women children. It's a sad state of affairs, man, but we got to keep on praying and keep on talking about as you said, it's for all people, we must love one another and just keep it moving. thing is thing is with that situation. And you know, B is peak, people who fortunately was not injured, their lives are still gonna be affected. Oh, yeah, you know, their family, their families are gonna worry about them. It's going to cause more mental health issues. It's going to be things that happen as a result of that, that we probably won't see for a while. That's right. Here again, you know, we're so glad that you're not be as an operate. And we got to celebrate them and hold them up. And, you know, we got we have a jazz night. And then 1.5 is one of our main hosts with the jazz night. And I parade is on the 15th at the parade actually falls on Dr. King's birthday. So this year, the Friday before the parade, is our Technology Summit. And our Technology Summit has students from around the world we have students coming from England, China, Africa. And if they if they're not here, they do it virtually. We have about six, we have about 600 students by our technology program runs year long. Students who want to get certified in technology, and another number of different eras is no cost to the student. They could get paid just 16 years old, they could get paid with that. So technology is a way that many children can live their dream. Many people can dream so we encourage people to check out our Technology Summit, which takes place Friday before the parade.

on the 10th of January is our pre parade mixer at the horseshoe, formerly Belize. And we have a young DREAMers program which, which is a program that honors Elementary, elementary school students, to schools pick the students. And we have the Kings concept of doing right doing the right thing, doing your homework, helping others not building all the kids that are doing the right thing. We honor those kids doing king with x. And of course, yeah, we of course, our scholarship banquet, take place on the 13th. And that's at the Orleans where we we host well actually, for the last 41 years, we've given 1000s and 1000s. of dollars, to scholarship recipients, for students in Las Vegas to continue their education. That's excellent. As a matter of fact, one of our scholarship recipient first scholarship recipients a few years ago, we first started is actually our keynote speaker, this year's Congressman Steven horseman. And we're honoring as the Grand Marshal of you, us, Senator Katz, Catherine Cortez Masto. And the Spider Man Roy, who has been with us for a long time. So you know, we were looking for a good time and also a time that we can encourage people to realize that the King holiday is the only holiday whatever day on not a day off. We do a tremendous amount of community service projects during this time as well.

Yeah, I haven't been in a while when because I'd be jelly golfing. But yeah, I took that parade has never started late. Never, never they start. But you all wait you all the way down at Ogden, and he started at the other end, they start on time it's gonna take, it's gonna take at least 2030 minutes for them to get down to where you are. I appreciate that. And I can tell you that the work that has been done through that, the Martin Luther King, Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee of Las Vegas, is monumental. Because as you said, there's a lot of people that have been honored. And you've the scholarships, I can tell you. I remember the United firefighters, Las Vegas, the black firefighter group with the city. They gave me $50 And somebody Oh, fit it out. I say man, that $50 pay for a book for my son. I don't know what you're talking about. If you get any any count scholarship, man, no matter how small is going to have an impact. So yeah, I know the community appreciates you guys. But you? Yeah,

have you looked at it? We'd like to give the money to the family. We have to trust that they'll do the right thing. Right because they may need it may need to get a car fix to go to college. That's right. You may need something in your dormitory. It's not just for the school for the tuition is to help the child right and and that's one of the things that we're happy about. But you know, we have a speaking a military Cheyenne High School. We'll be we'll be doing a colors and leaving parade. There bring in 170 cadets. Wow, we have several retired military, Unison from a and we firstly have every ROTC from a high school in town and upgrade. So I mean, it's coming. Honoring everyone, everybody

I served active duty in the United States Air Force for 20 years. Wow.

So what why did you join the military? For me? I asked.

I joined for several reasons. One, I wanted to go to school where I did not have to be concerned about any, you know, paying for any student loans or anything. I went to the Air Force Academy and I received my commission. So I joined the Air Force to pay that back. And I joined to serve my country in my training and education. It's all those things were important to me. So.

So what was your MOS?

So I had three in the Air Force, we call them Air Force Specialty codes. And my first one was information management or admin. And then the second one was I was a personnel officer. And then the last the last half, I was a communications officer. Oh,

excellent. So you got a wealth of experience that, that you actually done some things practically that you could bring to the civilian world?

So when you get out what did what did you embark upon, once you once you depart the military.

So once I, once I retired, I served, I was an underwriter for almost eight years. And at this time, I'm a mortgage loan originator and specializing in VA loans.

VA loans was talked to us about that, because trust me, once again, this is veterans affairs show. And we have a lot of veterans who listen in and I try to ensure that's what really tipped my, my hat when when my daughter APR told me that you that she had mentioned me to you. And I'm like, Hey, that'll work because veterans always looking for some help.

Yes, with our VA loan program that's such a popular competitive loan. And I think it is the most competitive loan that we have with our veterans. It is zero down, zero down for a mortgage loan for your home. And there's no mortgage insurance. And, you know, there's other perks to the program as well, for our veterans. If they have a service connected disability, they don't pay any funding fee. You know, you can have more than one VA loan at once. You know, you have many opportunities, you can refinance, you can streamline refinance, there's just so many benefits for the veterans where you're coming out on top and you're paying less than you are for a lot of other long program.

That is good news. I trust that a lot of veterans out there will have an appreciation and hopefully, they can get involved to learn more about that particular process. Because I think it has a lot of advantages for them. Now, when you got out of the military, you did that. Shortly after you had done a couple other things and then decided that this industry, real estate is where I want to go to assist veterans or it's just a program that your company had.

It's important for me to assist the veterans because I have first hand experience because I am a veteran. And I did serve. And so I understand, you know when you're going to from one assignment to the next and you know, you want to, you know, have the best benefit for you and your family. I've been there I experienced that. And that's why I specialize in VA loans because many veterans don't know what's available to them.

So what suggestions would you have For anyone that may be considering the military as, as a career.

I think that joining the military is just an excellent opportunity. The military loves young people come in, get trained, educated, and have an opportunity to lead large groups of people, small groups of people travel. And you have this opportunity to serve your country, you know, first and foremost, but it's a respectable career, you know, one that pretty much, you know, 1% or less of our population actually serves in this capacity. And, you know, I think it's just a great opportunity for someone they want to do something with their lives have a structure, even if they don't do a full career, just doing four or five years, that's a great structure, you will learn so much and just have many opportunities, you know, to meet new people.

So where are you from it and what was your inspiration? Again, as far as a I'm going to join the military, and I'm going to join a particular branch.

Well, I'm from Southern California, my mom, most of all inspired me, but I had, every every uncle, and my brother, and two of my cousins, they were all in the armed forces, they all served. So I was really the first female in my family to, to join the military. But my mom inspired me to do those things that to join the Air Force and to attend the Air Force Academy. It's it's so much investment was made in my life. And, you know, that's another reason why it's just so important for me to do what I do, you know,

now, you mentioned that you didn't want to have any bills as far as your education is concerned. So what did you get? Yes, sir. A degree or degrees in.

So I have a Bachelors of Science in English. And I have a minor in Spanish. And then I have a master's in Science in Management that I've received from Troy State University, and my bachelors from Air Force Academy.
