What is KMSU Maverick Magazine?

KMSU Maverick Magazine is a weekly discussion of what's happening in Maverick athletics hosted by Minnesota State student, Andrew Grimm. From game recaps & highlights to student athlete stories, Maverick Magazine has the insight that every Maverick fan needs!

Andrew:

Welcome back to another episode of the Maverick Magazine athletic podcast, talking about all things, Maverick athletics. Am your host, Andrew. And I am once again joined by

Marcus:

Marcus and Alex,

Andrew:

and it was a solid weekend for Maverick athletics. And again, we talked about it last week, not a ton of home events in general, a lot of things on the road, but we did get decent amount of road doves this past weekend, I would say, at least in my opinion, boys.

Alex:

Yeah. It was a very busy road schedule. I think a lot of our teams performed well. Some of them not so well, but

Andrew:

it happens.

Alex:

It happens.

Andrew:

It happens. It's a lot... And to preface a lot of that, it's just it's a long season. Not not everything's gonna be perfect immediately. There are a lot of teams did solid, though, in general.

Andrew:

So we're just gonna hop right into it with talking about Maverick football as they are gearing up for a huge matchup this weekend on family weekend, I should say, on campus against the Wayne State wildcats.

Alex:

Yeah. This is a big game. This will be our first ranked to be ranked game of the season. Wayne State has been on kind of a heater lately.

Andrew:

They have.

Alex:

It's gonna be a tough matchup. Probably the toughest one left on the schedule, I

Andrew:

would say. Percent.

Alex:

We got some tough opponents down the road too, but this is our big one back at home.

Andrew:

Yeah. I'd say that or Auggie. This or Auggie is gonna be the toughest. Moritz, still up there. I saw they were up there still in MPI, so they're gonna be tough too.

Andrew:

But this matchup and the Augustana matchup are going to be huge matchups for the Mavericks. And if you can get dubs in both of them, that really secures your spot, not only atop the NSIC, but atop of super region three as well, near the top, I should say at least.

Alex:

Yeah. Yeah. This game will be really important if we wanna host some home playoff games.

Andrew:

Exactly. So, I just mentioned that we might as well just kind of go up right into it. This... The Mavericks, did get ranked in the NPI rankings. Those first rankings...

Andrew:

Gosh. Help me out here again. Do they came out Sunday?

Alex:

They came out Monday.

Andrew:

Monday. Thank you. There we go. So, yeah, they came out Monday, for super region three, which I did figure out is the Midwest Region. I was right, boy.

Andrew:

I'm on a heater this year. But if for super region three, we're the third ranked team in NPI. We are behind Northwood. I don't know if it's college or university. I'm not gonna say which one, but Northwood is one.

Andrew:

Ferris State is two, and then we are three. By the way, at Ferris State not being one in our region just shocked me.

Alex:

Can't based off strength schedule.

Andrew:

So... Yeah. There... But... Yeah.

Andrew:

I mean, it'll be... For a lack of better word, you look at those three teams, super region... I mean, and I'm gonna be biased. I'll I'll admit it. But you look at all three of the...

Andrew:

All four of the super regions. Super region three is a doghouse. Oh, yeah. You have fair state, four of five national championships in the last five years. You have us who have been to the national championship twice.

Andrew:

Northwood has always been good at football. I don't know if they've won any national championships off the top of my head, but they've always been decent. And then you've got a bunch of the other GMAC and just other schools. It's a doghouse.

Alex:

It's a it's a tough division for sure.

Andrew:

So it'll be... Maverick's will have their work cut out for them not only within the NSIC, but playoffs and postseason contention. Again, that's way down the road. We don't wanna think about that just yet in regards to that, but should be a really good matchup for family weekend for... Against Wayne State.

Andrew:

And, I mean, it's gonna... I think this is gonna be the closest match we've probably had at least from a point standpoint. It's gonna be... I think this one's not gonna be like other games where we've frankly kind of ran some teams out of their own building or just wore down teams. I think this one's gonna be back and forth throughout the entirety of the match, and I hope the Maverick's will obviously come out on top for that.

Andrew:

So

Marcus:

Yeah. And to add on to that, I think that it's just a good midseason check just to see evaluate where you're at and just to see, like, for example, Ferris State had their probably biggest test of the season, versus Grand Valley this past week. Yep. And it was not easy for them. They were down seventeen zero at, I believe, was the beginning of the second quarter.

Andrew:

Yep.

Marcus:

And then all of a sudden, here comes Ferris State bouncing back and ended up winning that game, but I think it's good for, most of these teams to get a good midseason check and just evaluate where they are at.

Andrew:

Oh, 100%. You hit it right the nail on the head right there, Marcus. I mean, that is a great way to describe this because this really tells how good a team truly is, and it's a tune up, and it's almost a... It's a playoff game, and we're still in October.

Marcus:

Right.

Andrew:

So, I mean, that's gonna be... It's gonna be electric at the Blake as Alex has said multiple times, and I love I love hearing it. I love... Just pack the stands. Pack the Blake.

Andrew:

Let's break more records this year. Again, with it being family weekend, let's just get a ton of alumni and Mav fans in general to come down and watch these games. It's gonna be great games this entire weekend.

Alex:

It's gonna be 70 degrees out there.

Marcus:

Was gonna say, should be great weather

Andrew:

out there. Yeah. Even better. Tailgating? Another reason.

Andrew:

Another reason. Like, I mean, you have no reasons to not show up this weekend.

Marcus:

The tailgating is gonna be great.

Andrew:

Oh my gosh.

Marcus:

Gonna be a great day for some ball.

Andrew:

It's gonna be a great day. Again, I'll make the joke. Saturdays are for the Mavs, but... You know? But, again, that Wayne State game will be Saturday, October 25, 1PM.

Andrew:

Again, pack the stanzas and support our team as they're ranked number seventh in the country. Moving on, we got a lot of things to talk about as women's soccer wrapped up their final home stand of the season. Alex, you wanna talk about that?

Alex:

Yeah. They came in this weekend and really dominated two games, which they should have dominated in the first place. They were able to find the back of the net a lot this weekend. The goal horn was going off a lot if you could hear it on campus. It it was a busy weekend for the goal horn operator.

Alex:

A five oh win against MSU Moorhead. Coasted a lot during that game. Got off to a hot start and just rode it out to the end.

Andrew:

There you go.

Alex:

And then a seven o w over Minnesota Crookston. Season high in goal so far.

Andrew:

Oh, that's... Yeah. You're not kidding about the goal horn right there. I mean, heck, if... Don't I don't know.

Andrew:

Do they... I get do they have a goal song? Should be Ole. Just just get it going.

Alex:

They do. I I don't remember what

Andrew:

it's called. So that was playing a lot too. So what is... What I'm hearing

Alex:

is Sure.

Andrew:

Was. Goal song, goal horn, it just was happening all weekend long is what you're getting at.

Alex:

Yeah. And this offense is really starting to find its groove like we've been talking about over the last couple weeks. They've, at points, struggled to find the back of the net more than once in a match. They've started to really start scoring multiple goals and goals in bunches these last couple weeks.

Andrew:

There you go.

Alex:

Amara Smith and Maddox Archer have just been unbelievable these last month and a half, I would say. They just continue to score basically every game, both of them, and they just keep fighting for the team leading goals.

Andrew:

I mean, it's it's when you got a girl that's at nine goals and then you're the second place one's at eight, like you were saying, that's that's that's a lethal bunch is the best way I can describe them at the moment right now.

Alex:

Yeah. They're both in the top five, at least last I checked, in the NSIC and goals. There you go. Only team with two. There.

Alex:

So There

Andrew:

you go.

Alex:

It's not just a a one person show out there right now on offense. These two are leading the charge and others are really following up and picking up extra goals. Addie Dobrat scored her first two career goals.

Andrew:

Oh, that's awesome.

Alex:

Both against UMC. It was pretty cool to see that.

Andrew:

That's awesome. That's and that's always great. You want to have moments like that that are just special for a player and for a team in general and that's one of those moments where it, I mean, just, in my opinion, it always adds to like a weekend or a game when you can have something like that. It just... It adds that little bit of special...

Andrew:

I don't even know how to describe it, but it just... It feels better in a way, honestly.

Alex:

Yeah. It's kind of a special moment that everybody kinda gets to share with the player because it's such a big career accolade. I know Addie's played a lot this season. She's played in, I think, every match.

Andrew:

And there you go.

Alex:

Been close multiple times, so it was good to see her finally break through and get that. The celebration, you could tell that it meant a lot a lot to everybody on

Andrew:

the team. That's awesome. And that's and that's exactly what you wanna see and what you wanna hear. Speaking of fun things that the soccer team had recently, they got highlighted by Vogue Magazine, Alex. Yeah.

Alex:

That that was really cool to see. That kinda caught me off guard when I got sent that. That... That's something special. I haven't talked to the team too much about it, but I think that's just so cool see.

Andrew:

It is. In my opinion, that was awesome when I saw that. That's so

Alex:

cool. A smaller school in a program that has so much relation... Such a strong relationship with each other get to be presented in such a high media stream.

Andrew:

Yeah. Yeah. No.

Alex:

That's great. It's just something super cool to see. I know Ella takes the hair situation very seriously. Like she said, they do have a schedule before games of hair appointments.

Andrew:

I love it.

Alex:

So it's super cool to see that they were able to get that showcase because I think it is truly something that has bonded this team and is part of the reason why we are thirteen one and one.

Andrew:

There you go. And that's always what you wanna see. It's just the team bonding like that, and they can just take their friendship almost and make it into something that replicates on a field. So

Alex:

Yeah. It's just super special. This group all year long, I've just been able to tell that this is such a well oiled machine, and they they all work together so well, and they get along. And it's just been a

Andrew:

great season so far. Speaking of well oiled machine, Lauren McAlpine, now leading the nation in shutouts. I mean, what what more is there to say

Alex:

at this point in the season with Lauren? She had a she had a relatively easy weekend this weekend. She made just five saves, only one against MSU Maverick. Couple easy ones against Crookston to boost those numbers up. But even when those shots are coming, even if they're easy ones, they're they're knocking through.

Alex:

And we've seen that easy shots can get through.

Andrew:

Yes. You're not you're not kidding. And, again, Lauren was recognized again as NSIC goaltender of the week. Second straight week now she's been recognized for that. Believe that is the third time this season she's been recognized for that.

Andrew:

Again, just proves to this well oiled group that they... I mean, let's face it. They don't lose often. They don't really lose. They play good soccer, and they just wear down their opponents like we've said about all other teams and figure out ways to win.

Andrew:

And especially now that they're getting their scoring down, watch out.

Alex:

Yeah. I've I've kind of been in the mind that if this team scores two goals, not necessarily a 100% chance, but if they score two, there's a there's a very high likelihood that they win that game.

Andrew:

Again, they finished up their home stand. They did go undefeated at home, should be mentioned at least for the regular season. They will have Wayne State on Friday, October 23 at 3PM. That is at Wayne, and then they will be at Augustana on Sunday, October 25 at 1PM. Matt Fam, know we got some of y'all in Nebraska and South Dakota that listen.

Andrew:

Get out and support our Maverick women's soccer team. They have been rolling all season long.

Alex:

Yeah. And for all our fans in Mankato, the regular season home schedule is over, but don't be too upset. There should be more games coming to the pitch soon this season.

Andrew:

There you go. So moving on, we got women's volleyball to talk about as they had their trip to South Dakota we mentioned last week. Marcus, you wanna preface how that all went?

Marcus:

Yeah. So the women's split, one on one. They faced Jamestown on Friday. And when you look at the standings, Jamestown and Northern were both about two or three spots ahead of where the Mavericks were

Andrew:

Okay.

Marcus:

In the NSIC. So getting at least one of these was, was big for, being still in contention for the NSIC tournament. Obviously, we've got about seven games, I believe, left in the regular season. So all of them coming down the stretch are going to be, yeah, are going to be big. So each one matters.

Marcus:

But, yeah, recapping the James Hill one, it was great to see the women just clicking once again. They dropped the first set, by three, so it was still pretty back and forth. But after that, they never really let the ball drop on their side at all, which was very, very promising

Alex:

to see.

Andrew:

Wanna see. Right. Right.

Marcus:

And then, yeah, the Northern State loss, just a tough one. A really good team over there, in Northern, and the Maverick's are looking to bounce back this week when they take on, Minot and You Mary on Friday and Saturday. So couple names that I should mention though from those two games is, Jaden Lester. She, had a career high in digs, with 17 against James Town.

Andrew:

So Jeez. That's a lot. Wow.

Marcus:

Okay. There you go. For a setter too. That's Wow. That's that's pretty impressive.

Marcus:

And then Olivia Sturges also had a career high hitting percentage

Andrew:

There you go.

Marcus:

Against, I believe it was Northern. I would have to double check, but I believe it was Northern where she had where she had eight kills on 10 attempts. So

Andrew:

Oh, there you go. I mean, that's... Again, like you mentioned, that's two good teams still. Jamestown and Northern, and they get one of them and have solid weekends still at both. I mean, that's what you...

Andrew:

That's all you can ask for at some point. You just gotta try to stack up wins, keep moving up in the NSI NSIC standings, and try your best to

Marcus:

Right.

Andrew:

Have a solid postseason after you complete the regular season.

Marcus:

And it's important too, like, even though we're kinda getting into crunch time here that the importance of focusing on one game at a time is crucial. Exactly. Because if you lose focus on that one game, it can easily slip away from you. And then Exactly. Next thing you know, you're out of the NSIC tournament.

Marcus:

So the importance of one game

Alex:

at a time.

Marcus:

One game at a time is crucial coming down the

Andrew:

stretch here. So Maverick's look forward to keeping that mentality through the two games this weekend. Again, they are at home for both. That Minot State game, like Marcus mentioned, is Friday, October 23. That'll be a 6PM start time, and that you marry game on Saturday will be on, again, October 24, and that will be before football.

Andrew:

That will be at 11AM. So, ma fam, we can... You'll easily have time to make it to both volleyball and football on Saturday. So make it a full weekend on this great family's weekend that we have here at Minnesota State University. Moving on, we got men's and women's cross country.

Andrew:

We're just gonna give a brief touch up on those. Again, they were both off this week, but they are getting ready and preparing for the Winona State Invitational. That is again on Friday, October 23. The men will start at 1PM. The women will start at 2PM.

Andrew:

Again, with that being in Winona, they are just preparing and looking forward to continuing on the great season that they've had. I mean, Sophie Bakker, Lewis Fister, a bunch of other people that have done very, very well in regards to the performances for men's and women's cross country.

Alex:

Yeah. This invitational is actually not in Winona. It is out in West Salem, Wisconsin. Am I on about? Okay.

Alex:

Never mind. Forget I said anything. It threw me off too. This is actually the last competition before the NSIC championships for the season. So this will be good opportunity to kinda tune up and make sure they're ready to go for the championships when it's really There

Andrew:

you go.

Alex:

It really matters.

Andrew:

I... You know, I guess I'm I'm wrong. It's okay. That's off to... Sorry.

Andrew:

West Salem, Wisconsin, is that is that close to Winona? No clue. I was gonna say, can I count? Can I get, like? If it's, like, six miles, I'm counting that.

Andrew:

That's, like, that's a passing grade, guys. But they gear up for that. Hopefully, they continue on the great season that they've had. Moving on, we got men's and women's golf to talk about. Women's were off, but I wanna first preface this because, of course, oftentimes, things change as the week and things get released after we post these podcasts.

Andrew:

Should be mentioned, Emerson Garley was NSIC golfer of the week for her performances last week. So congratulations to her. We didn't have the opportunity to mention it in the podcast last week. Figured I should mention it this week, so congratulations to her. The women were off this week, so they do not have any match, invitationals, I should say.

Andrew:

The men did compete in the Washburn invite. They were ninth as of yesterday. I just checked. They moved up for tied for eighth. So, again, a solid, per...

Andrew:

Wanna say solid per... Play for the Washburn invite that was in Topeka, Kansas. So real good on them. Does they look just to continue on the season that they've had? Should be mentioned, the men and women will both be in the Tulsa Cup, which will be next Monday and Tuesday.

Andrew:

Am I right on that? I think that's next Monday and Tuesday. And that will be that Tulsa cup is down in Arizona. I... Or is it...

Andrew:

I actually don't know. Gosh. I'm Oklahoma.

Marcus:

That's what I was thinking

Andrew:

too, but

Marcus:

who knows?

Andrew:

I I have to double check this. You know, I was on top of things for, like, the start of this, and it's just as it's gone on, I've just... I'm losing. I'm kidding.

Alex:

Can't shoot a 100%.

Andrew:

You know what? I'll tell you... I'll... Hey. Passing grade still works.

Andrew:

I'm kidding. I'm kidding, guys. But they look forward to that cup. Again, they've been... Both teams have been phenomenal all season.

Andrew:

We look forward to them continuing on the great play. Moving on, we got some winter sports updates to talk about. We're gonna start out with men's hockey who they had what they would consider a tough weekend out in North Andover, Mass as they played is it the University of Merrimack or is it... No. It's Merrimack College.

Andrew:

That's what it is. Got it. So they played Merrimack this past weekend. They did unfortunately drop both games. They lost on Friday four to three in overtime.

Andrew:

It was a really tight checking game. Neither team could really get anything going over each other. The Maverick's did get their first lead of the season in that game. They led for a tiny bit in that one. Did unfortunately drop that one in overtime.

Andrew:

Saturday, that was not them. They did not play their best game, and Merrimack just couldn't... I mean, there there had to have been a magnet on that puck going to the back of the net. Maverick scored some goals where, I mean, you just don't see them score it often. I mean, one goal was shot from behind the net, and it deflected off a goalie skating into the net.

Andrew:

It was just... It was a tough performance nonetheless. They did lose that game eight to two. There were a few positives from this past weekend. It should be mentioned that both Mason Craft and Jack Crist, got it right that time, both scored their first collegiate goals.

Andrew:

Mason doing so on Friday and Jack doing so on Saturday.

Alex:

Yeah. It it was a tough weekend. It was Yeah. It was hard to watch. I've never seen this team quite really struggle on defense like that over these last couple years.

Alex:

Friday was a good showing. They just couldn't pull out in the end. First shot of overtime went in for Merrimack. And then Saturday was

Andrew:

just overtime.

Alex:

Saturday kinda felt like the floodgates opened after those first couple and Yeah. Then it was just over. They... Merrimack scored four in the first and then scored twice in the first thirty seconds.

Andrew:

Thirty seconds of the second period. Was

Alex:

six nothing. It was it was just a tough weekend for them. They're o and four for the first time since 2011, I believe I heard this morning on chat and maps. So it it really was a tough weekend. I think they'll...

Alex:

It's early in the season, though. They're not looking for wins right now. Obviously, it hurts to be o and four. No. But they're looking for...

Alex:

To do things the right way, and I'm hoping Lassie gets back healthy this weekend. Yep. And then we can bounce back against Saint Thomas in this... They're not conference opponents anymore, but this this is a rivalry matchup

Andrew:

at this point. I would I would agree. It's a rivalry series upcoming. So, again, should be a good matchup against two really solid teams. Again, teams that don't like each other per se is the best...

Andrew:

Is a... That's a fair way to describe it, honestly. But, those two games will be Friday. It's a home and home for this series. I should preface it with that.

Andrew:

Friday will be at Saint Thomas at the Lee, Penny, And Anderson Arena. That'll be a 07:07 start time. And then the Saturday game, that'll be at the Mayo, 06:07 start time. So hopefully, the Mavs can get some of their first wins on this... Of the year this upcoming weekend.

Andrew:

Moving on, we had women's hockey play after having a bye last weekend. They did play this past weekend. Alex, you wanna talk about that?

Alex:

Yeah. So going up against the two time reigning national champions, it's kind of kind of a tough weekend. It was a hard watch for me personally. Not really too much to say. We lost five to one on Friday.

Alex:

I should mention that that game was one to one through the first two periods.

Andrew:

It was close for a while.

Alex:

It was close for a while. It was really back and forth. We were definitely on the defensive end more, but we were playing some great defense. Our goaltending, which I'll talk about in a bit, was great in that game. And then Wisconsin just kinda got a couple in the third period and then kinda just coasted through the end.

Alex:

I thought they really showed tough fight in that game, though.

Andrew:

There you go. That's good.

Alex:

And it was... There's... They're not searching for ones like we said with the men's team. They're searching for results right now. Yep.

Alex:

And I think Friday is some... Something that they can look at and be like, we played a strong game. It just didn't go our way in the end. And that happens. Wisconsin's a better team straight up.

Alex:

I mean, this is the two time reigning champs, nine time in the last twenty years or so.

Andrew:

It's Mark Johnson's a good head coach. It's a

Alex:

great program. But then on Saturday, I don't think the results were there either. It was it was really a tough game. It was Yeah. 12 to one.

Alex:

Yeah. It was

Andrew:

You didn't have to say it if you didn't want it. Oh, yeah.

Alex:

We should mention it. It it was the biggest differential in the series history between Wisconsin and the Maverick's. It it really was tough. Cadence Roski started this game. She made the first 14 saves of the game.

Alex:

It was going great. We're actually out shooting them at that point. Hey. And then they got two to go back to back shots, and then I think at one point, they had four straight go in. You're kidding.

Alex:

So it was just, like we said, floodgates kind of opened. Yeah. Floodgates. Yeah. Wisconsin showed that they are a good team, and they had a lot of a lot of scores over the weekend.

Alex:

It was really, really a tough weekend for us.

Andrew:

I mean, you said it all in that first sentence. They're not the two time national defending champs for nothing.

Alex:

Yeah. It it was something going in. You know that you're most likely gonna lose these games, but you're searching for results. And like I said, Friday

Andrew:

Friday was a great result.

Alex:

Friday was a great result. There's a lot of things to build off. Saturday was a tough look, but I know they'll bounce back strong this weekend. I should mention that Jaya Schippel, she was kind of a surprise starter, kinda caught me off guard. She started on Friday.

Alex:

First career collegiate start against the reigning national champions. Throwing to the wolves a little bit there, But she she really played great in my opinion. She made some incredible saves especially in those first two periods. The the broadcast team on on big ten was consistently talking about how she was just... She was robbing Wisconsin of goals.

Alex:

It genuinely could have been 12 to one in both those games. It was some incredible work. She was really doing good sliding across the crease and making backdoor saves. She made 46 total saves in that game. Gave up five goals, but when you make 46 saves, you're gonna be okay with giving up five.

Alex:

And that... I think that's a great performance for her, especially for her first collegiate appearance.

Andrew:

First career start, Robs, Wisconsin, 46 out of 51. I'd say that's pretty good.

Alex:

I I think it was successful for her. She really

Andrew:

That's pretty dang good.

Alex:

She did look great out there. It's it's a little bit of a different style of goalie that we'd... We usually have in that for the Mavericks. Haley and Cadence are both on the shorter end, and Yep. Jaya's a little bit taller.

Alex:

Okay. So it's a little bit of a different look. I thought she looked really good. I thought Cadence looked really good for a little bit. Haley did not get in this weekend.

Alex:

Jaya came in for Cadence on Saturday, and she made 33 saves, but when Wisconsin was rolling like that, there wasn't much she could do a

Andrew:

lot of the time. Really. When the... We made the joke about our football team when the freight train's coming in. When you know that train's coming through, what do you do?

Andrew:

Like, there's not much you can, especially when you've got the best woman's hockey coach of all time who recruits some of the best players who go on to be stars in the PWHL. That kinda speaks for itself in my opinion.

Alex:

Yeah. It's a program that you look at, and you strive

Andrew:

to be like imitate. Yep. Exactly.

Alex:

So they had a tough weekend, but they're heading out to Boston this weekend, and they will be complete... Competing in the sixth annual icebreaker tournament.

Andrew:

Nice.

Alex:

It started in 2019. Didn't happen for a couple years because of COVID. Mhmm. But they'll be going out there. They will be taking on Robert Morris on Friday on...

Alex:

At 3PM.

Andrew:

Bob Morris.

Alex:

And then they will be... Depending on the result of that game, they will be facing either Yale or Boston University. The... If they win on Friday, they would be playing at 04:00. And if they lose on Friday, they'll be playing at 01:00.

Alex:

04:00 will be the championship game. So that will be a good opportunity for them to play some teams we've... Don't really see. They've faced Robert Morris, I believe, 12 times. They faced Boston University just twice, and they've never faced Yale.

Andrew:

Okay. Well, that'll be a fun time as the women's hockey team. They'll be shipping up to Boston this this upcoming weekend.

Alex:

And I should mention that by the next time we record this podcast, they will have played another game as well. They do play on Monday as well against Boston College. Oh. Another opportunity to play a team that you don't really get a chance to look at. They figured they're out there.

Alex:

Might as well get a game in.

Andrew:

Might as well. So good luck to them. Hopefully, they can have a solid weekend up in Boston. Moving on, women's swim and dive had their first two duels against the, division two universities, I should say, this past weekend down in Marshall. They beat SMSU two forty one to 56 and then Concordia Saint Paul two zero five to 93.

Andrew:

Again, first two dual wins, and they were in honestly dominant fashion. Just shows how good that program still continues to be. Mavericks took first in 11 events this past weekend. Really solid in regards to that, and it should be an... Aforementioned once again.

Andrew:

I should get, like, a broom just to bring it with all the time, but Maverick sweep NSIC athletes of the weeks again for swimming and dive as they... Avery Larson was NSIC swimmer of the week, second time this year. And for the third straight week, Natalie Freeman is your NSIC diver of the week.

Alex:

Yes. Six for six so far on players of the week for the swimming team. We have a fun competition that we have going on in our office where we have a running tally of player of the weeks. Yep. I know Burnsy is pretty happy that he's gone six for six with swing and dive so far.

Andrew:

Shout out, Burnsy. That's awesome. So, I mean, they're just gonna continue, hopefully, dominate their opponents that they've had. They will be home this upcoming weekend. They will be having duels against Gustavus and then UW, Stevens Point.

Andrew:

These duels will begin Saturday, October 24 at 1PM at Highland Pool.

Alex:

Yeah. The diving team will be on campus, but the swimming team will be out at Gustavus.

Andrew:

Okay. Gotcha.

Alex:

Gustavus does not have a diving wall, so diving will be held here. So get out and support the diving team. I know football's going on at the same time, but get out there and support them. And then the swimming team is not too far away down the road.

Andrew:

Oh, so it's Saint Peter. Twenty, thirty minutes. There you go. Mhmm. Otherwise, that is it for all of our updates.

Andrew:

I just wanna mention really quickly. This all's keep this short and sweet, But men's and women's basketball are both were predicted to win the NSIC in the preseason coaches poll. The men got eight first place votes overall, three for the South Division, and then the woman got six first place votes overall, two for the South Division. So hoping that basketball continues on the great seasons and the great tradition that they've had over the past few years. So, otherwise, that is it from us.

Andrew:

Once again, we thank you for listening, and, Matt Fam, show out this upcoming weekend. It is family weekend. There's a bunch of fun things planned for this upcoming weekend, so get out and show up for these masses. We got a lot of fun and big matchups this upcoming weekend. So that is it from us.

Andrew:

We, again, thank you for listening, and I was your host, Andrew. Once again, joined by

Marcus:

Marcus. And Alex.

Andrew:

And we thank you for listening.

Alex:

Catch you guys next time.
