Good morning and
welcome to Morning Cereal.
Okay, good morning
and welcome to Thursday.
Okay, here it is.
If we get through today, then we will
have made it to Friday.
And let me ask you this, do you ever feel
that someone is looking out for you?
Not watching you, but
looking out for you.
Well, if so, today is Guardian Angel Day.
And it's a reminder of that comfort that
comes from believing
someone's got your back,
seen or unseen.
And maybe just maybe you are or maybe you
should be someone else's guardian angel.
Something to think about.
Okay, our quote today, of course, is from
an angel or at least she was one.
She was one of Charlie's angels.
Farrah Fawcett said, "I deeply believe in
one's own positive will
to overcome even the most
daunting challenges."
Now don't ever discount your internal
powers of confidence, of
motivation and resilience.
Your mindset can steer your destiny.
Alright, today's news, facts and
birthdays are for October 2nd.
Start back in 1965, that's when the
sports drink Gatorade was
first tested in a college
football game.
Of course, you know the story.
It was at the
University of Florida, Gators.
But who are they playing?
They're playing the LSU
Tigers on 102 degree day.
Alright, here's this
one, the week of 1985.
I couldn't find an exact date, but it was
this week in 1985, the
beloved TV show, MacGyver.
Well, it debuted on ABC, giving us duct
tape miracles on a weekly basis.
Well, happy birthday to you.
Today is your birthday.
You share a birthday
with actress Camila Bell.
She's 38 today.
Talk show host Kelly Ripa.
She's 55 today.
Musician activist Sting.
He's 74 today.
But the late Coco the Clown
was born on this date in 1900.
That's not scary at all.
And now the number one song on this date
in 1984 was "Missing You" by John Waite.
Now, this power ballad, it topped the
Billboard Hot 100, known
for its raw delivery of denial
and heartbreak.
With lyrics, "I ain't missing you at
all," it's a line
everyone knows, but we also know
it doesn't quite ring true.
Here's a fun fact for you though.
The music video for "Missing You," it was
the first video shown
on VH1 music television
channel.
All right.
Well, just like Waite insisted, he wasn't
missing someone,
Robbins shows us how honesty
with ourselves is step one in Robbins'
book, "The Let Them Theory."
Okay.
Here is where Robbins introduces the
practical first steps.
She explains that "let them"
is only half of the equation.
The other half is, "let me," okay?
Let them do what they do and then let me
respond in a way that honors my peace.
And she describes how most people start
by noticing triggers.
The moment you feel yourself obsessing
over someone else's
actions, well, pause and repeat.
Let them.
This is awareness, okay?
Then comes substitution.
Instead of asking,
"Why are they like that?"
You ask, "Well, what can I do now?"
That's where the "let me" comes in.
Let me set a boundary here.
Let me walk away.
Let me focus on what I value.
Here, Robbins insists that it's not about
being passive, it's
about taking back your
agency.
She writes, "Every time you let them, you
hand yourself back the pen.
You get to write your own next line."
And she also reminds readers that
practice is essential.
The first time, it might feel unnatural
for you, but
repetition rewires your brain.
And over time, you stop wasting emotional
fuel on things that
were never yours to carry
around in the first place.
Instead, you use that energy
to grow and create and to live.
Okay, here's your takeaway.
Getting started with "let them" means
also choosing to let me.
Together, they form the foundation of
freedom and self-respect.
All right.
Today, trust your guardian
angels or be a guardian angel.
And remember, "let them plus let me" is
the mantra for the day.
