PART 1 FACTS
Stevie Wonder – Isn’t She Lovely
- So, before we start the history, I just wanna talk about how my weekend went.
- Over Christmas I got a tiny little 6 week old puppy that we named Hoddeok or Holly, and she was just an angel. Playful, fun, scrappy, smart, easy to train, just a sensitive little baby puppy. We were all totally in love with our little girl this past month.
- But over the past two weeks, she stopped eating, started developing health problems, and even with force feeding was losing weight. Multiple visits to the vet couldn’t fix it, we tried everything, we had her on an IV at the vet all day Friday last week running multiple tests, but nothing super serious was found.
- I took her home, and she could barely breathe by Saturday morning and she passed away.
- I don’t know why this had to happen to such a sweet little puppy but it did.
- So this first song is Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder and is for our little sweet Holly Hoddeok, who was not meant long for this world. Omma and dada love you Holly Berries. This is The Drop.
HISTORY: The Fourth Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies are held in New York City. Inductees include Dion, Otis Redding, The Rolling Stones, The Temptations, and Stevie Wonder. Jeez…what a class.
Now, as my friend JC queried on social media last week, Prince Paolo, I’m wondering what your answer to this is: What's the most perfect song ever written and which Stevie Wonder album is it from?
The Simps feat Eyedress & zzzahara – Tesla
- Eyedress and zzzahara have announced their debut album as The Simps. Titled Siblings, the project comes out March 14 on Lex Records. With the news, they released the record's opening track, "Tesla." 2019's "Miss Fortunate" and 2020's "On Fye" also appear on its newly released tracklist.
AMFM – Hunny Bunny
- This is the solo rock art project of David Caruso.
- He describes the project in his bio as having the melodic sensibilities of The War On Drugs and My Morning Jacket combined with the quirky lyricism of acts like Kurt Vile and Deerhunter.
- Big names to live up to, but this is an interesting tune, we’ll see what he can build from here.
Kevin Herm Connolly – It’s Ok (‘cos We’re in Love)
- This is an artist formerly known simply as “Herm” that I got hipped to by Aine Byrne formerly of Gwangju now back in Ireland. He’s naturally from Ireland, and just last week it seems this tune from 2019 was finally given the video treatment by the artist, so we’ll see what he’s doing moving forward.
grentperez – Absence of You
- This is the solo project of a guy named Grant Perez from Australia, who’s just 20 years old.
- He built up a huge following on the tube where you can watch all the videos, garnering over 400k followers to his channel, and this is his latest release.
- Only standalone singles as far as originals put out so far starting last year, and Absence of You is his latest.
- He has a GREAT voice, so no wonder people are loving it.
Boy Willows – Quick Stop By
- An artist true name Landon Fleischman who describes himself as a “spicy boy from Maryland with long legs and a tiny heart.” Now based in LA, this is his latest single.
- Only singles thus far in the discography like grentperez, so we’ll see what’s in store moving forward. This song just dropped last Friday.

PART 2 SONGS
Catherine Moan - Soda Pop
Public Body - RESET MY PASSWORD
Low Girl - So Cool
Yes Kid - Too Much Feeling (Not Enough Screaming)
New Dad - Say It
Barrie - Quarry
PART 2 FACTS
Catherine Moan - Soda Pop
- Catherine Moan is an electro-pop artist based in Philadelphia. Her new track is called “Soda Pop” and it is indeed sugary and addictive.
- She says that she wrote the song during one of her energy drink binges. She likens the high then later crash feeling you get from these drinks to being infatuated with someone.
- This track will appear on the extended version of her debut album, “Chain Reaction”, which dropped just last week via Born Losers.
Public Body - RESET MY PASSWORD
- We started off part 2 with a little punk courtesy of Public Body. Public Body is a quartet from Brighton.
- We’ve played them on the show before and it’s nice to see a new single from the band. This track comes ahead of their highly anticipated forthcoming new EP. The EP is entitled “Flavour of Labour” and it is scheduled for release March 4th.
- Kind of a funny story behind the inspiration for this song. During the height of the pandemic, everyone was clapping and cheering for all the health care workers out there doing their best and working crazy hours. Lead singer Seb Gilmore was at his job and after trying to log on to his computer, a pop-up message told him that he needed to change his password.
- He realized how pointless and useless his job was in the face of a global crisis so he made a song about it.
Low Girl - So Cool
- Low Girl is a new alt-pop act from the UK. “So Cool” is their second single and I like it a lot. It is the lead single and title track from their forthcoming sophomore EP, which will officially drop on March 4th.
- Their new song is about wanting something seemingly unattainable. More specifically, Low Girl says that it is about a girl that she really liked. This girl was a master at switching it on and off, you know flirting and then pulling away.
- Low Girl knew that this person was not good for her but she couldn’t resist and kept playing this cat and mouse game anyway.
Yes Kid - Too Much Feeling (Not Enough Screaming)
- Yes Kid is the alias of LA-based artist Yael Kaufman. She released an EP last year called “I Need a Minute” and now she is back with a follow-up single to start this year off.
- This song caught me ear because Yes Kid actually kind of sounds like a kid. Anyway, her new song is really cool. She definitely has a talent for clever lyrics and catchy songwriting.
- If you are feeling this track, I think you would really enjoy her previous stuff as well... I think she is definitely one of those artists that deserve more attention than she is currently getting.
New Dad - Say It
- New Dad is a band from the West Coast of Ireland. The band has a new EP coming out soon. The EP will be 5 tracks, it is entitled “Banshee” and it is schedule to drop on February 9th via Fair Youth Records.
- “Say It” is a song about unrequited love, more specifically, about being in a relationship with someone who doesn’t share the same amount of commitment as you do.
- About the EP, the band says that they are going for a new, much bigger sound than their previous releases so I’m looking forward to hearing what they have been cooking up.
Barrie – Quarry
- Barrie is the moniker of Brooklyn-based artist Barrie Lindsay. She’s been teasing a new album announcement for months and just last week, she made it official.
- Her new album will be entitled Barbara and it will be released at the end of March via Winspear.
- Her new track is a sort of slow jam, 80s power ballad. Very smooth and dreamy and I thought it was a nice way to close off the first hour of tonight’s show.
PART 3 SONGS
Molly Moore – Shy
Dance Yourself Clean – On Hold (feat Oslo)
Elephant Castle - Quicksand
Empath - Passing Stranger
Carli Brill - Hey Little Girl
Lycio - I Wanna Know
PART 3 FACTS
Molly Moore – Shy
- Molly Moore is an artist based in LA and this track comes to us via Home Planet Records.
- “Shy” is the newest single from Molly’s soon to be released new EP. The EP is called “Escapism” and it will drop on February 11th.
- She says that the song is meant to encourage people to communicate more freely and honestly about their feelings. The song is based on a real-life crush she had on someone. She felt a spark and she thought that the other person might feel the same way but didn’t know for sure. Always a bit of an awkward position to be in for sure.
Dance Yourself Clean – On Hold (feat Oslo)
- Dance Yourself Clean is a duo from LA. Their latest cut, “On Hold” features the vocals of Oslo, who is a newcomer from Utah.
- The duo found Oslo’s music on a weekly playlist on Spotify and reached out to connect.
- The theme of this song kind of fits with the theme of the first track. “On Hold” is about the feeling of being put on hold by someone. You know they are kind of making you wait before moving forward with the relationship, that kind of thing.
Elephant Castle – Quicksand
- Very happy to have Elephant Castle back on the playlist. I’m definitely a fan and I am really feeling his new track.
- Elephant Castle is of course the moniker of Phil Danyew. He is a retro-inspired indie rock artist based in LA. He’s a personal favorite because he consistently puts out great music and I’m always looking forward to more.
- Still no word on an EP or album but hopefully we get one this year.
Empath - Passing Stranger
- Empath is a noise-rock band from Philly. Their latest offering, “Passing Stranger” is taken from their forthcoming album “Visitor”.
- About the song, about member Catherine Elicson says that it was written as a collage of memories. She says all the memories are from her childhood and it is written as if it were a story about someone else returning to their hometown.
- Pretty cool concept and approach to the song and I think it turned out great.
Carli Brill - Hey Little Girl
- Carli Brill is a new artist from Southern California. This song has a lot of positive vibes coming from it. I think it’s definitely a mood enhancer. In a word, I’d say the song is very “optimistic”. Right up your alley eh sunshine Danno?
- Carli says that the song is about learning to authentically smile through life’s gritty ups and downs, even when your kind of making a mess of it all.
Lycio - I Wanna Know
- Lycio is an alt-pop trio from the UK. Their new single, “I Wanna Know” is pretty cool. It’s like a R&B track that’s influenced by rock and pop elements.
- About the song, lead singer Genie says that it is about navigating flirtation in modern society. More specifically, she says that it’s about confusing boundaries, mixed signals, and not knowing who should make the first move.
PART 4 SONGS
Youth Sector - Is Blood
Spoon and the Forkestra - Karma 8
Young Prisms - Honeydew
Blushing - The Fires
Christian Lee Hutson - Rubberneckers
Oliver Tree – Cowboys Don’t Cry
PART 4 FACTS
Youth Sector - Is Blood
- Youth Sector is a quintet from Brighton. “Is Blood” is their latest single and it is taken from their forthcoming new EP called “Adult Contemporary”, which comes out on February 18th via Family Values.
- This song is really cool and it has a pretty deep meaning behind it as well. The song is about people in England who are so proud to be English. The band points out that the country’s wealth and favorable position in the world was built on the suffering of others.
- They wrote this song while the Black Lives Matter protests were in full swing and the “all lives matter” trolls starting popping up everywhere.
Spoon and the Forkestra - Karma 8
- Spoon and the Forkestra is a duo from Hamburg, Germany. The duo is comprised of Timo Zell and vocalist Emily-Mae Lewis. They started making music together in 2017 and starting releasing singles last year.
- Just last week, they released their debut EP, “The Fondest Flinch”. The EP is pretty cool. The duo definitely has an interesting sound that blends, some jazz and soul, as well as some punk, all with a psychedelic tinge to it. Their music is very engaging and unique.
Young Prisms – Honeydew
- Young Prisms is a quartet from San Francisco. “Honeydew” is their latest release and just last week, the band announced the release of a new album.
- The new album will be their first full-length album in nearly 10 years. The album is called “Drifter” and it will be out on March 25th via Fire Talk.
- Lead singer Stefanie Hodapp explains that when she was a kid, her grandma always told her that honeydew was the best melon. Stefanie wouldn’t touch the stuff because she was a cantaloupe fan, but now that she’s older she realizes that her grandma was just trying to get her to eat some honeydew.
- Stefanie sees this memory as a metaphor for life. We don’t always get cantaloupe but honeydew is bad and we can still enjoy it for what it is.
Blushing - The Fires
- Blushing is a shoegaze act from Austin, Texas. They have a new album coming out shortly. The album is entitled “Possessions” and it will be released on February 18th via Kanine Records.
- I think this track is pretty cool. Very shoegazey indeed, with dreamy guitars and nice percussion too. I also like the overall dark, and a bit brooding vibe to the song overall. Nice offering from Blushing for sure.
Christian Lee Hutson – Rubberneckers
- Christian Lee Hutson is an artist who is based in LA. Just last week, he announced the coming of his sophomore album, “Quitters”. The album will drop on April 1st via ANTI. Interestingly, the album was produced by Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers.
- There is a very cool music video of this “Rubberneckers” track. Christian says that he wanted to showcase how much of a naturally gifted dancer he truly is.
- He’s definitely got some moves, no question about it... but are the moves actually good? Well, I leave it to all of you to decide
Oliver Tree – Cowboys Don’t Cry
- Oliver Tree is kind of a big deal these days. Last week he performed this song as well as “Life Goes On” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! .
- He also announced that his sophomore album, “Cowboy Tears” will officially drop on February 18th.
- “Cowboys Don’t Cry” is a song about allowing yourself to actually feel and expression your emotions. He says that cowboys are supposed to be a symbol of toughness and masculinity but even cowboys should allow themselves to cry sometimes. Totally agree with that for sure.
