Speaker 1:

Hi, and welcome to The State. I'm your host, Rebecca McEvoy. Today's date is 11/10/2025. The forecast predicts will be a cold day with a high of being 31 and a low of being 24. The state brings you the stories that matter.

Speaker 1:

MSU revises Campbell Hall's gender inclusive bathroom layout following complaints. $137,000,000 in renovations for Campbell Hall were completed in August. A key part of the renovations included the creation of gender neutral bathrooms, the first for Michigan State University. Now, three months after the hall reopened, the bathrooms were changed back to gender specific following controversy among some students and parents. The hall, which housed approximately 246 students, has informed residents that changes to the gender neutral bathrooms will be made, a move that comes after a formal complaint was sent to MSU.

Speaker 1:

The communication created confusion among some students. MSU outmuscles Arkansas despite struggles in three point range. In Michigan State men's basketball, 69 to 66 win over number 14 Arkansas, the Spartans played with passion, grit, and great defense, physicality on the boards. But they didn't have the touch from beyond the arc. It's been a trend that has proved unfavorable for the Spartans in recent memory.

Speaker 1:

Shot after shot, miss after frustrating miss. Last season, MSU shot 31% from beyond the arc. Last week against Colgate, it went six for 21. On Saturday against Arkansas, it went one fourteen. We're not shooting the ball great, MSU head coach Tom Izzo said.

Speaker 1:

That's no secret. This will be a good learning game because guys realized how hard you have to play, how physical the game is. East Lansing Film Festival screened Soli Man's story on opening night. The twenty eighth annual East Lansing Film Festival held its opening night at Studio C in the Meridian Mall. A small crowd filled the lobby of theater as attendees brought concessions and mingled before the film.

Speaker 1:

The doors opened at 7PM for the opening feature film Solo Man's Story. This is the twentieth year of the festival with the first East Lansing Film Festival being held in 1997. The festival will run from November 6 to November 13 and will showcase over 40 films ranging from feature length films to short documentaries. This year's films were chosen from 326 submissions that the film selection committee views and rates before a final decision is made by director and founder Susan w Woods. MSU hockey shuts out Penn State in series sweep.

Speaker 1:

Throughout each matchup, the Spartans have emphasized getting to their game quicker, and tonight, they just did that. Less than twenty four hours after an overtime win, number one Michigan State hockey returned to Monice Arena, looking to sweep its series against number three Penn State. The Spartans set the tone with a one o early lead in the first and never trailed, going on to earn a five o shutout. I think that's something we can try and pride ourselves in is getting on teams early. Senior forward Charlie Strammell said, playing north and playing simple and hard, and I think it worked in our favor tonight.
