With the new year underway, BAH rates have updated, and now’s a good time to double-check yours.
On average, 2026 rates increased about 4.2% nationwide, but what you actually receive still depends on your duty station, rank, and dependency status. Some locations saw larger increases, others stayed flat, and a few changed less than expected.
It’s also worth remembering that not all BAH situations look the same. Between PCS moves, changes in your dependent status, or transitions between active duty and reserve status, your allowance can shift more than you might anticipate.
And while your rate is protected once you arrive at a duty station, it also won’t automatically adjust if rents climb. That’s why checking your current rate matters, especially if you’re PCSing, renewing a lease, or planning your housing budget for the year.
To make it easy, AHRN has a BAH calculator where you can plug in your ZIP code, rank, and dependency status to see your exact rate. Head to blog.ahrn.com/military-bah-rates to check it out.
