Good morning and welcome. In this week’s reading from Ekev, we witness Moses reflecting on the pivotal moments of forgiveness between God and the Jewish people after the sin of the golden calf. God instructs Moses to carve two new tablets, emphasizing the importance of having an ark to hold them. Moses, however, pragmatically builds the ark first, ensuring a place for the tablets when he descends from the mountain. This ark, distinct from the one made for the tabernacle, was used in battle, highlighting its significance in Israel’s journey. As the narrative shifts to Aaron’s death, Moses connects this sorrowful event to the earlier tragedy of the tablets, illustrating that the loss of a righteous leader is akin to the breaking of the tablets. The Levites, who remained faithful during the golden calf incident, are designated as spiritual leaders, reinforcing their crucial role. Ultimately, Moses reminds the people of God’s enduring commitment, urging them to continue their journey into the Promised Land. This podcast was produced and sponsored by Daniel Aharonoff.
