Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

This is the governing power in the nature of man, the power of
decision, or of choice.Everything depends on the right action of the
will. – Steps to Christ, pg. 47
“Catarina, I don’t think we should go in there. Can’t you see
the sign?” My friend cautiously pointed to a large, vibrant red sign.
Imprinted in bold, black letters was the ominous warning: BEWARE
OF DOG.
“Nah, come on. Don’t be a chicken!” I teased.
Upon taking a shortcut, we had come to a tall, sinister-looking,
metal fence, which stood between us and the other side of the alley.
Heedlessly ignoring the obvious warning signs, we climbed over
anyway. As we cautiously made our way down the dark alley, my friend
suddenly froze in her tracks.
“Do you hear that?” Her shaky voice bounced off the damp,
concrete walls. A low grow resonated along the pathway ahead of us.
Click, click, click. The rasp of the dog’s claws on the cold pavement
drew closer and closer.
“Run!” I blurted out. Instantly, we began our mad dash back to
the fence. Before launching myself over the fence, I made the mistake
of looking over my shoulder. A giant rottweiler with foam dripping from
its fangs darted towards me. As I scrambled for a foothold on the metal
lattice, powerful jaws closed in on my flesh. Instinctively, I kicked the
leering face, causing it to release its grip. Leaping over the fence, I
landed on the hard sidewalk; two bloody punctures were imprinted on
my shin.
Well, that was stupid. With regret, I slowly limped away
from the menacing fence, my friend following suite. "Beware of
the Devil!" God warns, providing caution signs to protect me from
certain destruction. However, His warnings are but an urgent
recommendation. It is my own choice: I can choose to comply with
His “caution signs,” steering myself away from the dark alleyways of
this world, or I can choose to venture down these alluring backstreets,
risking my eternal existence in the process.
