Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit
of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will
destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. – 1
Corinthians 3:16, 17 NKJV
I had looked forward to this wonderful day for a long time. No,
it was not a birthday or a shopping trip with my friends. It was the first
day of our dissection course in my nurse training! I could hardly wait to
see within the human body with my own eyes.
Entering the hospital, I went to the basement where the
refrigerated rooms were. As I ran along the hallway, I inhaled a sweet,
pungent odor mixed with the smell of disinfectant. I stopped in front of
a large glass door leading into the classroom where the dissection was
going to be held. Walking in, I saw all my classmates patiently waiting
for the professor. He came in a few minutes later and directed us to
a large table covered with green towels. The table was strategically
placed under the surgical lights, allowing the corpse to be well lit for
dissection. My breakfast churned in my stomach as I breathed in the
potent smell that filled the room. I prayed a quick prayer that I would
be able to focus on the dissection and not be overpowered by the
smell.
As I stood there viewing the different parts of the body, I was
astonished. For a few minutes I even forgot about the ghostly, cool
room with the smell that no cleaning materials could remove. I was
touching and looking at muscles and bones with my own hands and
eyes! As I studied the human body, I realized how God organized
everything so thoughtfully. Even the smallest cell has an important role
that is irreplaceable.
God gave me a body, and I have the responsibility before Him
to take care of it. I want to keep reminding myself to dress, nourish,
and take care of my body so He can use me as a vessel for Him.
