IN THE NEWS TODAY,

IN CAMPUS NEWS,
The Wisconsin Union announced the iconic sunburst chairs are returning on April 15th to kick off the start of the terrace season. A chair return celebration is set to take place on April 17th at 3pm, with various activities, live music and discounted food. The terrace draws nearly one million visitors each summer and holds lakeside events all season long. Wisconsin Union Executive Director Mark Guthier said “The terrace is more than just a place. It’s an enduring symbol of community, Madison and experiences for a lifetime.” Over 2000 chairs will be back to campus soon and spark the beginning of a jam-packed terrace summer.

IN STATE NEWS,
Early in-person absentee voting for the April 7th election begins today, with most notability the race for a state Supreme Court seat between liberal Chris Taylor and independent but self-declared constitutional conservative Maria Lazar. In a recent Marquette University Law school poll though, 53% of registered voters said they were undecided, with a slim majority to Taylor. A livestreamed debate between the two of them at Marquette is planned for Wednesday at 7pm, which will be available both online and televised through Catchy Comedy. Additionally, for Madison voters, other assorted elections include Court of Appeals judges, Dane County Circuit Court judges, Dane County Supervisors, Madison Alderpersons, and Madison Metropolitan School District School Board Members. This stretch of time before the election will also allow same-day voter registration at polling places, which will end on April 3rd.

IN NATIONAL NEWS,
President Trump votes by mail, even though he says voting by mail is fraud. Palm Beach County voter records show the president voted by mail in a Tuesday special election for state legislative seats and that his ballot has been counted. Even though Trump has in the last week called mail-in voting cheating and corrupt as hell. He is actively pushing for congress to pass the SAVE act, a bill that would end universal mail in ballots and reduce the ability to a select few people. Trump has focused on mail in ballots since his loss in the 2020 election where he claimed fraud. He says that we are the only country in the world that does mail in ballots and it is corrupt. Trump said last week that the SAVE Act was the biggest thing pending in Washington, even as Congress and administration deal with the Iran war and a partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security.

ALSO IN NATIONAL NEWS,
Airport transit times worsen as senators are still trying to find a solution to end the Homeland Security shutdown on Tuesday. The funding deal proposed, which is still being debated, is set to restore pay to airport workers while excluding ICE projects. U.S. travelers flying out for spring break are being told to arrive hours before their flights due to long lines. The warnings came for airports in Houston. Atlanta and Baltimore/Washington International. Almost 11% of TSA workers who were scheduled for work on Monday missed work. At least 458 TSA workers have quit their jobs since the shutdown began due to a lack of pay. Many TSA wait times have been halted on online sites. ICE agents were spotted near terminals at various airports after Trump deployed them at security checkpoints on Monday. In the current proposal, ICE investigations would be funded, but there would be extensive restrictions. Officers would only be deployed traditionally, rather than for urban immigration deportation movements.

IN INTERNATIONAL NEWS,
President Trump looks to wind down the war on Iran while some of his goals are left unfulfilled. Trump outlined five goals for the U.S. air campaign, an increase from four when the war began on February 28. The strikes by the U.S.-Israeli joint campaigns have greatly decreased Iran’s military efforts. Trump outlined he wanted to degrade Iran’s missile capability, which has been affected, however in its fourth week, Iran is still launching missiles and drones. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said their ballistic missile attacks are down 90% since the conflict began. Trump wanted to destroy Iran’s defense industrial base, where U.S. attacks have targeted its manufacturing, however Iranian strikes have continued. He wanted to eliminate their navy and air force, and the U.S. has succeeded in its domination, destroying over 140 Iranian vessels. Trump sought to never allow Iran to get close to nuclear ability. This past year, the U.S. claimed they obliterated their nuclear power, claiming Iran was weeks away from a hostile bomb. Trump claimed he wanted to retrieve the 970 pounds of enriched uranium Tehran could use in its weapon creation. Finally, Trump’s last goal was to protect the U.S.’ MidEast allies, which he added Friday.
