Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
It is Satan’s constant effort to keep the attention diverted from the
Saviour and thus prevent the union and communion of the soul with
Christ. – Steps to Christ, pg. 71
I collapsed into my seat on the bus, weary from a long day of
travel. Here we go again, I thought. It was only the middle of Cali Tour,
and I was already tired of being on the road. I pulled out my phone
in an effort to pass the time, and within only a few minutes, the girls
throughout the bus were doing the same.
As I glanced around, I caught site of Alina. Unlike most
everyone else, her Bible lay open on her lap, and she was intently
reading the marked and highlighted pages. Wow, I mused. Even with
all the chaos and distractions, she still takes time to spend with Jesus.
In dismay, I thought about myself. I had allowed the
distractions that surrounded me to steal my time with God. Amongst
the chaos and hectic schedule of Cali Tour, in our few moments of
relaxation, I had not spent time with God. I had not taken time in my
early mornings to commit myself to Him for the day; I had not used
those long hours of bus travel to study my Bible. Instead, I had allowed
the distractions—my friends, social media, and even sleep—to take
priority.
It’s not just on Cali Tour that I am distracted and neglect to
spend time with God. Every day, Satan is trying to draw my focus
away from Him. Homework, stress, and friends are constantly
demanding my attention. Too often, I give these distractions first
priority, and I don’t make the effort to sit down and have focused,
quality time with God.
Turning off my phone, I threw it into my backpack. In its place,
I reached for my Bible, which had been buried, untouched for several
days. With a new desire to turn my focus back to God, I began to drink
in those wonderful words of life.
