Hi there. So has anyone in your life ever given you that look? You know, the one eyebrows up, maybe a little side eye, a pause, just a beat too long before they say something like, oh, that's interesting. Or maybe they just go straight to, I'm worried about you, or you shouldn't be messing with that. If you've started opening your intuition, whether that's paying attention to your gut feelings, pulling a card, talking to your guides, or just admitting out loud that sometimes you know things before they happen.
Kari Bandle:There's a really good chance someone you love has had a reaction like that. And not always the supportive, wow. Tell me more kind of reaction. Today, we're talking about that. The awkward dinners, the family members who now send you articles about cults, the partner who got quiet, the friends who slowly stopped calling.
Kari Bandle:And more importantly, we're talking about why it happens, what it actually means, and how to navigate it without losing yourself or the people you love. I'm Carrie Bandle, psychic, medium, and, I'm the owner of Sacred Whispers Studio. I have been that person at the table who said something and watched the whole room get weird. So I've got some things to say about this. Let's start with the big picture.
Kari Bandle:I think it really helps to understand why people react this way because here's the thing. Most of the time, their reaction isn't about you. It's about them, about their own programming, their own fears, and their own spiritual dial. Remember the radio dial analogy? We've talked about this.
Kari Bandle:Everyone is born with intuitive ability. It's not a rare thing. It's not a gift. It's not some supernatural anomaly. It's the basic operating system of the soul.
Kari Bandle:The dial just gets turned way down for most people early and for very specific reasons. We live in a culture that has spent centuries teaching people to distrust anything they can't see, measure, or prove. Science, religion, systems of power, they've all had a stake in making sure people stay in their heads and out of their inner knowing, And it worked honestly really well for a really long time. So when someone who loves you watches you start tuning back in, whether it's pulling cards, talking about energy, mentioning that you had a knowing about something before it happened. It can be...
Kari Bandle:It it can genuinely rattle them, Not because they think you're bad, but because some part of them is afraid. Afraid of what they don't understand. Afraid that if this is real, it changes things they thought were settled. Afraid that you might be heading somewhere they can't follow. Sometimes afraid of their own dial which is quietly starting to just from being around you.
Kari Bandle:Let me name some of the specific fears I've seen underneath these reactions. Fear number one, you're going to get taken advantage of. This is actually love in disguise. They've seen stories, grifters, scammers, people preying on grief or loneliness. They want to protect you.
Kari Bandle:The problem is their protection comes out as skepticism or dismissal, which doesn't feel like love even when it is. Fear number two, you're changing and I don't know who you are anymore. This one is huge. When we start doing the inner work, shadow work, energy work, opening to intuition, and practicing, we do change. And the people around us notice.
Kari Bandle:Some of them find it exciting. Some find it destabilizing. If your identity has always been the practical one, the logical one, the grounded one in the relationship, and now you're talking about past lives and soul contracts, that can feel like the floor is moving. Fear number three. What if this leads you away from our shared beliefs?
Kari Bandle:For people with strong religious backgrounds, your spiritual exploration can feel like a threat to shared values or shared community, shared afterlife. That's a lot to navigate and their fear of loss can absolutely come out as criticism. Fear number four, their own dial is waking up. Honestly, sometimes the most reactive person in the room is the one who's the most intuitive and has worked the hardest to keep that door closed. Your openness threatens the whole dam, and they'd rather push back on you than deal with what's behind it.
Kari Bandle:Okay. So here's some tips. Don't overexplain or over defend. The moment you go into lecture mode, pulling out quantum physics, sharing three books and a podcast, you've lost the room and also kind of lost yourself. You don't need to prove this is real.
Kari Bandle:You know what you know. Defending it to someone who isn't ready to hear it is an energy drain and honestly a boundary issue in disguise. Don't make it a debate. Logic and spiritual knowing are not the same playing field. You will not win a debate about whether your guides are real, so don't try.
Kari Bandle:It's not the right arena. And don't use their skepticism as evidence that something is wrong with you. This one is sneaky. Sometimes we take their doubt and turn it inward. Maybe I am being ridiculous.
Kari Bandle:Maybe I'm going off the deep end. No. Someone else's closed dial is not a referendum on your open one. And don't cut off your own expression to keep the peace indefinitely. Shrinking yourself down or going back into the closet and pretending you don't believe what you believe, that has a real cost.
Kari Bandle:You can be thoughtful and strategic about when and where you share, but don't disappear. Now for the good stuff because there are genuinely graceful ways to navigate this. Get clear on who is a safe audience and who isn't. Not everyone in your life needs to be on this journey with you. Some people are for this part of your life and some aren't.
Kari Bandle:That's not failure it's just the truth. You get to choose what you share with whom. Lead with your experience and not the doctrine. I've I've been feeling so much more calm and grounded since I started meditating and paying attention to my gut. Lands very differently than I've been working with my spirit guides and studying the Akashic records.
Kari Bandle:Same truth, different on ramp. Meet people where they are. Let your life be the proof. The best argument for this path is that you are calmer, clearer, more joyful, more grounded, more authentically yourself. When the people who love you see that, when they see you making better decisions, showing up differently, being more present, that's more persuasive than any conversation you could have.
Kari Bandle:Just let it show. Let your light shine. Have the honest relationship conversation when it's needed. Sometimes the real conversation isn't about your intuition at all. It's about the relationship.
Kari Bandle:Like, I feel like I can't be honest with you about something that's important to me, and that's hard. I don't need you to believe what I believe. I just need to be able to be myself without it being a problem. That's a conversation worth having. Find your people.
Kari Bandle:I cannot say this enough. You need community where you don't have to explain yourself or defend your knowing. Where you can talk about what happens in your reading this week or the dream you had or the knowing you got. And the response is, tell me more, not are you sure that's healthy? If you don't have that yet, just find it.
Kari Bandle:That's partly what this community is for. If you need help with that, please just reach out to me. I can I can send you in some directions? And I wanna be real about this part because it's not always resolved with a general conversation and time. Sometimes someone's reaction to your spiritual opening reveals something deep, deeper about the relationship, a pattern of control, a need for you to stay small, an unwillingness to allow you to grow, and that's a harder thing to navigate.
Kari Bandle:I'm not here to tell you what to do in your relationships. I don't know your situation, but I will say this, your soul's evolution is not up for vote. You did not come into this life to have an experience that is approved by anyone else. The people who love you for you, the fully expressed authentic spiritually alive you, those are your people. And sometimes it takes this kind of expansion to figure out who they actually are.
Kari Bandle:That can be painful, genuinely. I'm not going to sugarcoat it, but staying small to keep the peace is its own kind of loss and it's the one you'll feel for a really long time. Now I know some of you listening are not the one who open their intuition. You're the parent, the partner, the sibling, the adult child of someone who did. Maybe you found this podcast trying to understand what's happening with someone you love.
Kari Bandle:First, I'm really glad you're here. The fact that you're curious enough to listen says a lot. Second, what I want you to know is that your loved one has not lost their mind. They have found a part of their mind, their inner knowing, their intuition, their connection to something bigger that was always there and was always real. The weirdness you're seeing is often just someone finally being fully themselves, maybe for the first time.
Kari Bandle:Opening up to your intuition is a beautiful gift. You don't have to believe everything they believe, but you might try believing in them. And in the fact that they are sane and thoughtful and that this path is making them better in ways that you might already be noticing even if you're not ready to say it out loud. Give it some time. Keep the door open.
Kari Bandle:That's all I'm asking of you. Okay. So I wanna tell you what happened when I told my husband I was pursuing this field. And actually, I should preface this with the fact that he's seven years my senior and older men honestly didn't get raised in an intuitive friendly environment. Let me just say it's probably a hard sell.
Kari Bandle:The beautiful thing is he has a great sense of humor. Well, he has to because he needs one with me. But his exact words were, just don't get weird. How loving is that? He he does love me and he wants me to do what makes me happy, which is beautiful.
Kari Bandle:The cool thing about it is that those times where organically I knew stuff, something that he needed or something that interested him. One time I had dialed in and, was trying to find his his checkbook for him. So he had lost it, and he was in a frenzy. He was losing his mind over it and he yelled when I told him where it was. He yelled, I looked there twice and then he marches outside to the truck.
Kari Bandle:I told him that it was leaning up against the side on the inside of his, glove box. He marches out to his truck, and there it was laid up against the side of the glove box, like I said. I think he may have like just said you got lucky or something but he was very happy that it was there. And then one of my favorite stories to tell tell and I've told it before in here was when my oldest son and him were talking about our nasty, abusive neighbors who had only lived next door for a gosh, less than a year but they bought the house. So the odds are they're not gonna move anytime soon.
Kari Bandle:And I said, I'm manifesting that they move. And both my son and my husband laughed and continued with their conversation. So the next morning, coffee in hand, I go and I open up the curtain that faces towards their house, and I see a for sale sign in the front yard. And I giggled, And my husband, coffee, coming into the living room said, what are you laughing at? And I said, look.
Kari Bandle:And he said, oh my god. I'm starting to believe this shit. Exact words. True stories. Totally fun stuff.
Kari Bandle:I love it when a good plan comes together. I didn't have to prove myself after that. But here's what I want to leave you with today. Being misunderstood on this path is almost a rite of passage. I don't know one single person who has opened their intuition and not had at least one difficult conversation, one lost relationship, one moment of wondering if they were the crazy one.
Kari Bandle:You are not crazy. You're awake. And the ones who can hold that with you, they're worth finding and worth keeping. So if this episode hits close to home, if you you've been in that seat, felt that isolation, navigated those conversations, I really want to hear from you. Send me an email, drop a comment, send me a message.
Kari Bandle:You're not alone in this. And please, if you, can share this podcast, comment, give me a thumbs up or subscribe. It helps me grow immensely. I really appreciate it. I'm Carrie Bandle, and I'm gonna see you next week with a new topic.
Kari Bandle:Until then, keep listening to those whispers of wisdom.
