Today in our daily reading of the Psalms, we're going be reading out of Psalms one thirty two. And the passage says, Lord, remember David and all that he suffered. He made a solemn promise to the Lord. He vowed to the mighty one of Israel. I will not go home.
McKay Vandenberg:I will not let myself rest. I will not let my eyes sleep nor my nor close my eyelids and slumber until I find a place to build a house for the Lord, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel. We heard that the ark was in Ephrathath, then we found it in the distant countryside of Jar. Let us go to the sanctuary of the Lord. Let us worship at the footstool of his throne.
McKay Vandenberg:Arise, oh Lord, and enter your resting place along with the ark, the symbol of your power. May your priest be clothed in godliness. May your loyal servants sing for joy. For the sake of your servant, David, do not reject the king you have anointed. The lord swore an oath to David with a promise he will never take back.
McKay Vandenberg:I will place one of your descendants on your throne. If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue forever and ever. For the Lord has chosen Jerusalem. He has desired it for his home. This is my resting place forever, he said.
McKay Vandenberg:I will live here for this is the home I desired. I will bless this city and make it prosperous. I will satisfy it. I will satisfy its poor with food. I will clothe its priests with godliness.
McKay Vandenberg:Its faithful servants will sing for joy. Here I will increase the power of David. My anointed one will be a light for my people. I will clothe his enemies with shame, but he will be a glorious king. As we read through this Psalm, I find comfort in knowing that the people of Israel brought their concerns to God.
McKay Vandenberg:I think we can read this and kind of take it as like a, Hey, God, remember, you said you're going to do these things. You promised to be good to us. In verses eleven and twelve, we read, The Lord swore an oath to David with a promise he will never take back. I will place one of your descendants on your throne. If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue forever and ever.
McKay Vandenberg:So we see this real back and forth between the people of Israel and God, almost rectifying their covenant, being reminded on both parties of, hey, if we do this, you said you would do this. And God meeting them there saying like, if you follow and obey these commands, you will receive the promise and blessings that come from this covenant. And I find comfort in that today as I navigate my own Christian walk of some days I feel really solid in my faith and other days I need some of the reminders of the blessings that can come with that. And the reminder that God will be faithful in those things. So if you're at a point today where you're not sure if God's going to follow through, he's ready and able to hear those prayers and meet you in that moment.
McKay Vandenberg:Let's pray together. Heavenly Father, as we continue to follow and grow closer to you, Lord, I pray everyone that is hearing this video and hearing this this reflection, just be reminded of your faithfulness. Help us all to be reminded of your love and care to us when we follow the commands that you have given us. Lord help us to not look at the stress and the worries of our world, but continue to put our eyes towards you and the blessed life that you're calling us into. In Jesus name we pray.
McKay Vandenberg:Amen.
