Type B Knitting is a weekly knitting podcast for the Type B crafter. Sisters Veronica and Gosia chat about WIPs, yarn, test knits and the knitting projects that don't go as planned, because knitting is a journey, not about the finished garment. New episodes every Tuesday.
Welcome to Type B Knitting, the podcast. This is a podcast about knitting, wha- huh? This is a podcast of two sisters who yap about knitting. I'm Veronica and I'm choking on my water. And I'm Gosia and we're two sisters. Two sisters that found knitting and we're saved. I thought it'd be funny for this episode to go through our project bags and everything we have in our project bags. Before this episode I was telling Veronica, I'm like I don't even know if this will be a funny episode. What were you saying about your stuff? You didn't even know what you have? Yeah, I don't even know what I have in my bag but I know anything I need is in there.
Like I can't name the things that I have in there but I know it's in there. So we'll be discovering together because I feel mine just started collecting a bunch of random things. And I also have multiple project bags. This is just one, the other one, the like nice one that Gosia made me. She made me like a legit project bag, like it's very nice. It has so much garbage in it that I am like stressed out looking at it so I just take the essentials out of it and put it into tote bags. That's what I do. I have like a bigger pouch that Veronica made for like sewed for me and that has all like the little tools and notions and things and then that one I just throw around. I actually hate this project bag. Why? Because I feel like it's too small, it's too frumpy and like it has like a drawstring top. Yeah. But this doesn't stay up nice to give you that extra room. It always flops in here. So I actually hate using it. No, my triangle scarf is in there and it like fits perfectly and I bring it to work. That's how I bring my triangle scarf to work. I think a small project's good. I think oh a sweater. Yeah, I don't. Yeah.
I'm just like showing this in here. And it's just like spilling from the top. But yeah. Do you want to go first? Sure. So I use the project bag that I sewed. It's like a bucket bag. It has pockets on the outside for to hold you some things, which I actually have a lotion in my project bag because like especially in the winter, my hands get so dry. And you're like, I never use it. No, I actually use this a lot because do you ever like when your hands are just so dry and you're using a yarn and it's like catching. Oh my God. No, that sounds horrible. Well, that happens to me a lot. I am the opposite problem. My hands are sweaty, so everything's just slipping away from me. That only happens if I'm using cotton.
No, the cotton is when it gets like jags on the metal needles and it sounds like shivers down your spine. You want to throw up nails on a chalkboard. Yeah. Interesting. It's something with my hands. And as soon as it touches cotton, it just starts sweating. And it's just like, it's so hard to keep like tension. My hands touching metal needles make them sweat so bad that I can smell the metal when I'm working. Isn't that disgusting? Guys, don't subscribe. Please. You just become an iron worker. No, it literally smells like metal. Like sweat for my hands is just like degrading the metal and it's like crazy.
You're going to pick them up one day. They're just going to be rusty. No, for real. They literally are going to. Oh my gosh. That's really funny. Sorry, but continue. That's funny. Then I just kind of shove previous tags. Oh, what the hell is that? Do you know when you have yarn and hanks and then you have like the tags from them? Yeah. Why do you keep those? I don't mean to. They just kind of collect. Okay. Okay. Well, there's another one. Put it in the pile. And then there's another inside. So maybe it's like this bag's little like souvenir. You know what I mean? Like this bag's pretty proud. It's seen a lot of yarn. It's seen a lot of yarn. All of its visitors.
It's like a little guest book for the bucket. My project book, my project bag has a guest book. This also has pockets on the inside and I hate using them because it's so hard to get to these pockets or like, I don't know. I think you're putting too big of projects in there because I've never come across any of these issues. I also like, I touch it like once a month when I take that on the train with me because the scarf is in there and I'm just too lazy to like move it. Yeah. So I'm like, I'm not coming across any of these issues. Well, because you're not really using it. So it's not an issue. Right. Yeah. It's just not the daily driver. Yeah. Yeah. It's just super cute. It's my daily driver and I hate it. I don't like this way. I don't know. I think I just need like, I ended up doing, putting my projects just in like a tote bag, like a canvas and I found that just so much better. It's just nice. Yeah. And you're just in and out. So I'll be making a new one. But anyway, so then I have my little tools pouch. This has a bunch of random things, like just a scrap piece of yarn that I added. Gotta have that important. I added that.
It's a really cute color. It's like a pale purple. That's from the I just had a little leftover and you're like, I need to keep that. I'm like, that. Yeah. I just like, I don't know. What is that? It's a gauge ruler. There's no way you're using this. I use it. Really? If I gauge one. Wait, I don't even understand what I'm looking at here. It's like, okay. So it's a star shaped plastic acrylic. It has none of these numbers are like, they're on the right side for me. Oh, it shows you four inches. Wait, what? So it has little teeth on the points of the four pointed star. So then you put it on your like knit and then because it's like an acrylic and like it has this opening, you like can count more easily. So it's because my dumb dumb brain can't, can't go a one, two, three, four, five. And then be like, wait, did I count that stitch or not?
So like having this is really nice. So if I gave swatch, I use it. Oh, so okay. So is that for like finished garments that you use in on earth? So it's for like a gauge swatch. So if you made a little gauge swatch and then you kind of use this to be like a one, hold on. I want one of those. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. She's cooking with that. Actually gauge swatch to use it. Yeah. No, I would just use it on finished garments. And if I am using the same yarn, I'd be like, Oh, I've already used this. So like, let me see. Like I would not gauge swatch again. Yeah, because I have some yarn left over from the evergreen.
So the lane cloud yarn. I have some leftovers. I would just yeah. Yeah. Literally just do that. Gauge from that. So I wanted to call it. I have a little tin of all of my stitch markers. This used to be, I used to have all my stitch markers. Oh my God, it's so tiny. It's like the size of like a silver dollar. Yes. I so small. And now it's the size of a mini cookie. How about like two inches? You would say diameter. So I'm so bad at like the first one. I had all my stitch markers, which were just those little like bulb pins at first. I love those. Those are my favorite. Yes. The 10 was like about an inch and a half. Then not all of them fit in it. And then I got this little tin. I didn't even know from what. But then I reused it and now it's two and a half inches. And a lot of grunge. We did. And if it's all my stitch markers and then now the little one I use for those like needle holders to stopper things. Yeah. So wait, the like little like silicone ones that we bought. I think that's what's in there. Yeah. Yeah. You need to check to see what was in there. I know what's in there. I like how this feels. Yeah. So I have a little silicone covered, uh, measuring tape. God, I have a nice, nice, nice. Yeah, you have to. Um, I have darning needles in a little container. I bought from Hobie and then they gave me, oh my God, this free little thing. They only give me weird candy. And I always eat it. And oh yeah, it's so good. It's like the strawberry. Yeah. It's so good. I have washi tape in here and I don't know why. Very important. Very important. Very, uh, I have a little scissors.
I have a stitch counter, which I thought was like a bunch of baloney. No, so good. I love it. Uh, and then I 3d printed one for me and Veronica and actually this comes in handy. So much so. I have two of them. Oh my goodness. So in case I do two projects at the same time. Oh, thank you. Um, and then I have a bunch of random cable. I have a cable needle also from Hobie for free. Dude, why are they giving you such good stuff? They only ever get the candy. I don't know. Cause I was going to say, maybe you're like order. Is it large enough? But how much are you already? You're not like $300 worth of stuff. And they're like, Oh my God, I, she needs this. She's definitely making a cable. Yeah. For sure. For sure.
For a long time. I didn't even know how to use this thing. And I still don't know. I get it. I understand it in theory. I don't even know. I understand that just dropped the needle. She's like enough of that. Um, and that's done. Um, I also have this wheel that measures your needle size. So, um, in case your knitting needles don't have the little name on them anymore, the number on them, you can quickly, uh, check what the size is. Do you use that? Something. Really? All of mine had their numbers on them. I was going to say, literally all of mine have the numbers on them. Well, okay. So my, this set, my interchangeable circular needles, some of the numbers like rubbed off. Like you can see one of them has it, one of them doesn't. So it's kind of nice to be like, huh? Yeah. Like, does this match? Um, I got really excited about crochet for one project. So I bought a set of crochet hooks.
You got the nice ones too. The ergonomics, ergonomics, prim, I think. Yeah. They were prim. Because they were colorful. So I like them. I use them. All four of them. Yeah. Five of them in your toolkit. I have a whole set. And then I have some cable. Uh, what are these? I literally, what are those? Like, what are they called? Barber cord, I think. Okay. Um, I like them because they're a little like noodle and they go on like your, uh, the end of your needle. You can slip on all the stitches. Love those. And then I have a little stopper for them. Love those. Some random needles, obviously. Um. Will you keep your needles in there? No, just some when I'm too lazy to go put them away in the right spot. Oh, I, I have to put them back in the same spot. No, I just have literally just one double pointed needle in size, 2.75 millimeter. You only have one of those? Two. Oh, okay. Oh, but the second one is broken and that's my bag, basically. Noise. Yeah. And it's very large. So it ends up collecting things like a little banana sticker. Very important. Very important for encouragement, you know?
Yes. That little, um, that little guy that says keep on trucking. You're almost there, box. You can make it. You got this. Yeah. So that's basically what's in my bag. Love it. Thank you. Um, all right. So mine is also, mine is just a tote bag. My best friend, Julia, she got me a tote bag with my cat's faces embroidered on them. And it's like my favorite tote bag ever. I use it literally all the time. So cute. Um, because again, my, uh, the project bag that Gosha made me is holding a project that I, is just forever blooming and blooming over me. So it's just always going to live in there. And like that project bag also lives in my closet. Meanwhile, like the project that I'm currently working on, which is the Zosha cardigan lives on like the floor. So I'm like, I always see it. So I always just grab this instead of the scarf. I love how it doesn't, it's home is just the floor. Yeah, just the floor. Um, so yeah. So in my project bag, I have yarn. Wow. The yarn that I'm working with. I have one printed page of the pattern I'm currently working on. Do you just print it one page at a time? No, it's because I, so typically I love printing out patterns. I love it. Love it. Love it. But the Zosha cardigan, like it was, um, I've gotten a little lazy and I've been using like my phone to look at patterns, but the charts for the Zosha cardigan were just easier for me because I kept like, my phone kept going to sleep. Then I'd have to like go back and wake up my phone, go back to where I was, scroll down. So I just printed out the page and I use like was using that as a reference. So I have one page of a pattern printed out. I have more yarn. I can see also why you messed up the charts before because it just shows you the little motif as the pattern. What do you mean? Because it only shows you like here's your four leaf clover. Yeah, but I stopped halfway. So really there was no excuse because the chart shows me the whole thing. You misunderstood.
I'm dumb and I just got really eager and I was like, I'm done. Yay. And I was like, no girl, you got your halfway there. Keep trucking. Um, I have some shorties for, oh wait, actually, is that the gauge that you're working in? Yeah. Okay. I think, hold on. Uh, I don't know. Yeah, there are, these are four millimeters. Okay. So like the interchangeable needles that I have, have it on the etched into the metal. Oh, that's nice ones. No, those are just from nitpicks. Oh, just from nitpicks. Yeah. Girl, how do you read this? It's in, where is it in green? You got to know where to look when it hits the light just right. You got to use it. Don't twist it because you're going to lose it. Where my finger is. I feel like I'm going cross eyed trying to look at the light. No, do you see it? No, this one made me so mad. I would end up using my little needle size thing. I feel like I would never use that. You can read that girl.
That's written in invisible ink. If you urinate on it and put it under heat. This is good because I'm done with the ribbing on the body. So I need to move on to the sleep. So that's, this is good that I know that this is in here. I would have been looking for it. Um, thank God you know what's in your project bag. Thank God. Okay. So loosey goosey scissors. Always have scissors loose in the bag. You don't need to cover them up. Sharp side pointing out. Sharp side up. Honestly, preferably open. These scissors are the best. These are, I believe I stole these from our parents. They're like four, the best four inch, four inch scissors. 90% of them are handled and then 10% is the shears. Honestly, the best tools are from your parents. Just steal whatever they have. They got that good, good. Um, these have got through TSA. Like no one says anything because the blade is like half an inch tall. Yeah, I know. So like whenever I'm traveling and I bring my knitting, always bring my knitting traveling. Um, they like, this never stops me.
And it's like fantastic. I think I've flown international with these two and like they did not care and carry on or in check the bag because if it's carry on, cause I'm knitting on the plane in my, um, in my backpack, I brought them to Italy and they were like, sure. TSA season is like, you're not going to do anything. Yeah. They're like, you're not a threat to us at all. So, um, okay. Yeah. So scissors are loose. Next, Gosha got me this super cute because she knew this tragic state of what I was using to measure my knitting and we'll get to that. But, um, she got me this super cute, like little turtle, like it's a little crocheted or like knit turtle. That's like, it's a tape measure that's crocheted over to look like a turtle and his tail, hey, his tail is like the measuring tape, but I always pull on his head on accident. Yeah. And I was like, wait, why isn't it working? And then I'm like, Oh, yeah. So I feel like I have fear. I need to take better care of him, but yeah, I have a tape measure loose. Um, and then I have a stitch counter at 14 and I don't know why.
Um, don't remember counting. Don't remember, but it's at 14. Um, are you just going to keep it at 14? No, I said it to zero. Okay. Okay. And then this is a little pouch that I got from Gosha and it's like a, like a travel pack or something. Like a packing cube is what they call a packing cube. Wait, I have buttons for the social cardigan. Maybe I don't need to buy buttons. Wow. You look through my stuff, dude. Um, this pack, I don't know what's in it, but it has everything I need. I could not name six items in here. Like I really don't know. I know there's, um, stitch markers in there. Okay. So, oh my God, I have so many buttons.
Okay. So, oh my God, this is multiplying in your package. Okay. I have like, wait, oh my God, I have really cute, like blue ones. Wait, I have really cute pink ones. Look at these pink ones. They're so cute. Wait, that's actually really cute. You had buttons you didn't even know about. Yeah. I have a lot of buttons actually. I could probably use this for the social card again. Shout out. Okay. Um, okay. So, apparently I have one, two, three. This one's loose. This one's just one. And then I have this. And then I also have more loose buttons. I have so many buttons in here. I probably have like, oh my God. Why do I have so many? I feel like you have more buttons than I have. Like I have a lot of buttons. One notion I do not have a lot of.
This is cute. What are these called? The little like, I forgot. I think they're called like pegs maybe? Tiggle toggles. Uh, yeah, maybe like toggles. Toggles maybe. I don't know. They're like wooden cylindrical, but like fat in the middle. So figure that out. Imagine a little clarinet for a button. Yes. No clarinets more like. So don't think about a clarinet. Take that, get that out of your mind. Okay. I have a bunch of buttons. I just, like, what am I going to do with this one button? Like that doesn't even make any sense, but I'm going to put these away in this little baggie because that makes me feel better. This is from that pink cardigan that I made and I, um, ripped off all the buttons before I donated it. So that's definitely in the trash. And you just saved one button from that cardigan. No, I have four. Okay, okay, okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You were just showing five. I don't know why I have four, but whatever. Um, I have. Did you just throw your buttons around? Like it's, yeah, I don't know. I don't know what's going on here. I have a little like carrying case with all of the needles. So all the like darning needles plus a cable needle. I have like a, this really rusty metal darning needle and I have three, but the, I always seem to just randomly pick the really rusty one. Do you see how rusty it is? Like, why is it so gross? Because your hands are so smart. This is the darning needle that makes your hands smell like metal. Yeah, it's giving me like tetanus or something. I don't know. Yeah, but I have a really rusty needle and then I randomly have, um, little like eyeballs for Amigurumi. I feel you and I made Amigurumi once and we got, was it in Anna's apartment? I was making a caterpillar, but I like don't even know what happened to it. You probably didn't finish it. Also like caterpillar dude, like what is what is I thinking? Um, from all the things to Amigurumi. Yeah, I know. I just remember yelling at each other of how not well it was going. What's in here? Oh, I think this is from you. Okay, so this is a little, another pouch, so many pouches in this pouch and it has my jumbo stitch markers. I feel like I just haven't looked for these because I haven't been knitting in like really thick like, um, needles. And then I have like this little doodad that Gosha made me, um, that you, it's like a measuring tape that you kind of like hook onto your needle so you can like measure as you go. Very useful. Um, and then these, which I'm so sad I've never used, but Gosha got me these like really, really cool labels and I don't know how to use this. I know you've told me how to use it, but there's like a guide on how to like an acrylic like guide on how to make the labels, but that's in there. Oh, this just shows you where to place the label. I know you always say that and I don't understand what you're talking about. Maybe by recording it on the podcast, you'll listen back to it anytime you need to as a little reference. Yeah, but I'm curious, do, has any of our listeners like put tags on their stuff? Like, do you guys do that? It's such a cute idea, but I'm always like, I hate what I make so I don't want to put a tag on it. You know, I don't want to waste the tag. I don't want to make sure I like it.
But to be fair, I have been wearing my cardigan number nine and I like it now. So you will not be getting it, unfortunately, but when I fall out of love with you, I'd rather you keep the sweater you made then. Yeah, I love tags. I also have tags. I've only ever used one and it was on a sewing project for a little short. So I knew which way it was the right way because that matters for shorts. Wait, isn't this? Yeah, this is a freaking dude skip. He who shall not be named. This is from the two kits that I bought from them. You're supposed to put tags in them. You're like, absolutely. And I'm like, this is garbage. I'm like, I made garbage. I'm not putting a tag on it. I'm not signing my name. Yeah, I don't want that to be traced back to me. Yeah, I have labels too.
I've never used them, but I think I'm going to like add. Yeah, I think that would be cute on that one. Yeah, we say that now, but let's check back in. That's on evil bingo. Put a tag on like three of your items. Oh, this evil bingo is becoming more and more real. Um, and then I have a small tin of stitch markers. It is a small tin. Not as small as my one and a half inch. No, that was like crazy. Whoa. Oh my God. Okay. And then I have, what are these called? I think they're called Barbacord. I have this Barbacord. I feel like I should not be the one naming things because I, I sound too foreign. She's a Barb. She's a Barb, Barbara, Barbara cord, um, with the little stoppers on them. These kinds so in handy. I love these. I love, I use these so much. Like my cat just ran over because I was like whipping them around, but he's a like, he's a chomper. So like, I can't let him chew on anything for too long because he will bite through your. Okay. Um, I have one crochet hook with the tag still on it.
Okay. Also, I want to note that the tag is halfway on the crochet, like on the actual like crochet hook. So I can't use the full hook when I do this. Like it stops at where the tag is. No, because I was going to return it because it was the wrong side and I just like gave up on that. Yeah. Something about the like sticker tags on crochet hooks are so hard to take. I ate because then it gets all sticky. I'm pretty sure my, like I have a extra like crochet hook that has the same thing of like, um, sticker adhesive. Like yeah. And it's the worst. I'm like, I'd rather just deal with the sticker than I guess. No wonder you don't like crochet.
Okay. Yeah. But I have that. And then I have my tape measure that is ripped at the four inch, five inch mark, which is ironic because I never gauge so much. But it's like hanging on for dear life. But I stole this from you when you used to sew. I've never owned this. No, go to you used to own this and I stole it from you. I took it from you. I said, yank. This is mine now. You're like a crow collecting parents. Everyone's best gadgets. I'm like, they're mine now. I want them. Um, so yeah, that used to be goshas and it's ripped, but I use it a lot still, but now I have my little turtle. So, um, I have a pen. Really good pen. Really good. Very nice clicky. It's, oh, I love when the pen is juicy. Yeah, it's really nice and big. This is the, um, big profile 1.4 B. Very good.
I highly recommend these. Guys, if you like it for real, if you like a big juicy pen, this one is so good. I love this pen. I have a pen because when I print out the, um, patterns and there's charts, I'll cross off the charts with a pen. You know, I fold it so then it like hides away and then I can like read it a little better. No, you're just screechy scratching. Yeah, because if there's multiple pages and you have to flip the page, I feel like you need like a sharpie to like cover it a little better. It's gonna bleed through the next page. The crazy, also the crazy thing about me is I never, I don't know why. I think I'm just cause I'm lazy. I never staple any of my printed patterns. So like a lot of the times that the pages get like mixed up and if they're not numbered, it's like really hard to figure out where I am in the pattern. That's crazy. You got, you're literally like working on, let's say the back panel and then all of a sudden it tells you to like bind. Yeah. And you're like, wait, hold on. I thought this was a cardigan. Yeah. So I have a pen and then I have these like, foam needle stoppers, loose, do you like these? Yeah, I love them. Really? Yeah. But they get stretched out really fast, which sucks. They're like a little EVA foam. I would want to like bite on it. Yeah. Yeah. Do you want it? Well, who says I have it?
And then I have some other like, um, stoppers that go to 3d printed for us in a really pink. And then, oh, I also have this one. Didn't we get this at Yarn Con last year? We did. Yeah. It's like a really cute, the like silicone stopper, but it has the cutest little wool ball and with like a little felted sheep on it. It's so tiny. It's like measure this. How big is this? You have the measuring tape that you stole from me. It's not even, I think it's like an inch big. Yeah. I don't know. It's two centimeters or one centimeter on our flame. I don't know. But it's like super tiny. It's really cute. And then I have a loose cable needle in here, which I probably should put with the rest of the needles, but yeah. And that is what is in my project bag. Time to shove it all back in there. But yeah, like I know that like whenever I have this, I have everything I need. Like I literally, I've curated it to how I work on projects. So it's like everything I would possibly want or need is in here. So I like, whenever I go traveling or anything, I can just shove this little like pack into whatever tote bag or anything that I'm working on. And I know like I'll have everything I need. And the essential apparently minus the scissors because those are just loose and nothing, but usually they're in this little pack. Okay. Just not loosey, loosey stabbing you from the outside of her. No, but the crochet hook does not fit in this. So it does like catch my projects a lot of the time.
That would annoy. Yeah. It like just sticks out. But I just ignore it and just shove it back in there. Shove it back in there. And we don't talk about it. Straight to the bottom. Straight to the bottom. Time to put everything back. Yeah. That's, that's my project bag. Y'all. Thanks for sharing. Yeah. But it's so interesting to see like what you have, what I have, like a lot of the similarities and then like, because you print your patterns, you have a pen. Like that's one of your essentials and like little things like that of like, Oh, sometimes I crochet. So I just throw it in project bag when I could have it somewhere else. Like live, but yeah. Yeah. Right. I mean, you have four crochet hooks in here. So it's like in different sizes. Why would I ever need that?
Yeah. Why would you need different sizes? Like I used to also have like a little piece of like scrap yarn in there. Well, that was added today. Oh, because I didn't know where the garbage was. So I just shove it in there. That's great. I mean, I'm saving my Hank tags. Yeah. They just end up in there. I know you're not going to throw them out either. Probably not. I'm going to forget they're in there. Yeah. You're going to keep forgetting that they're in there and just keep adding to the pile. Yeah. All right. Well, if you guys haven't anything fun or interesting or kooky or crazy in your project bags, let us know. Leave a comment, leave a five star review, and then we'll know.
