(upbeat music) - Hi there and welcome to the OMB Law Board. I'm Simon Bennett, partner at OMB Solicitors and today I've got with me, Diana Knight. Now, Diana, if anyone is more OMB than me, it's definitely you. 35 years at OMB, are you kidding? - 35 years, yes. - Wow, so when did you start?
(...)
- 1939,(...) I started. - You started school in 1989.
(...)
(laughing) - We don't need to mention that in Simon's. - So, I mean, obviously there must be something good here that you love about it. What is it? - Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. The week here, the care is definitely,
(...)
I've got some great friends that I've made throughout my career here with OMB. So, yeah, it's just, you know, our work values, I love our practices. We're always coming up with new and innovative ways to do things. So, yeah, it's amazing. - So the week here value, I mean, you know, the OMB Law Board, it's based on our board in the background and our values. And we've got four key values, one of which is we care. And that, I mean, from what you've just said, that just obviously resonates with you. Tell our viewers, what does it mean to you, we care?(...) - Well, we care about our clients to such a degree. You know, we try and do as much as we can with, you know, our services here. And, you know, we go over and above, I believe, for our clients and, you know, whatever they need, we'll get for them, we'll do for them and things like that. So, yeah. - And Diana, but that goes further as well. It's not just the clients. I mean, it's you and the other staff members. I mean, you care about the team that you work with and they care about you. - Yes, yes, yes. There's a lot of camaraderie with our staff and we do things outside of work. You know, we have a real closeness, you know? And I really do care. So we have different teams within the firm. Obviously, mine is through the body corporate team.(...) Really look after each other. If one of us is snowed and we just, we aren't able to get that work, the other person will step in and look after it for you. So there is a real closeness. And I think each team within the office, it works the same property, you know, our estates team and things like that. There's a real closeness, a real bond. - Yeah, and that's fantastic and it's unusual and that's part of what makes OMB special. And obviously, why you've been here 35 years. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. I love it here. I just think that for me,

I don't think I'd find this anywhere else. I really don't. I've got lifetime friends from the staff here and you know, it's amazing. - And our other values of course, being trust. So trusting each other and our clients trusting us.(...) Seriously fun. - Yes, we've had some fun times. Yes, yes. - So we have a good time as well. - Yeah, exactly. Yeah, and it's actually in our little book there where we've done the raw challenge and that was so much fun. On that particular day, it was pouring with rain and challenging. - It makes it fun, doesn't it? - It was, it was an amazing day out. - We were neck deep in mud. - We were definitely, yes, yeah, deep in mud. - And community.(...) I mean, community is a big thing for the firm and a lot of the staff here(...) involved in the Gold Coast community, it's really important to us. We're a big part of this community. How do you see our involvement in the community? How's that important to you? - Oh, I think for us, like with the,

specifically to the Gold Coast Community Fund that you've had so many, like you've been part of that for how long? - Probably 10 years plus, I guess, is long. Yeah, it's a great course. - The work that has done through that, we've had, like I've had a little bit of involvement. We've had meetings here at the office and the work that we've been able to do for people that are disadvantaged and things like that, that's pretty special. And then you've got the fun ones with you being part of the Suns and going along to the events and things like that. - And the whole office has got behind that. I mean, we're all Gold Coast Suns fans here. So, do you know to the viewers out there? I'm sure, you know, we're throwing a few offsite at the moment, but we're passionate Sun supporters. - Definitely, yes. - Even though, you know, you've got team members for the Tigers and others, but we're heavily involved in our sport and community. - So yeah, there's a little bit of, you know, going backwards and forwards with the teams and things like that. But we do a footy tipping comp here, which is always a lot of fun because we get quite involved in that and yeah.

- Yeah, I think those are the important things that hold us together. So, you know, I'm thinking about innovation as well here. We've evolved over the time, obviously. - Yes. - Good old fashioned personal service, one-on-one, client contact, that's the key. That's what we're built on. - Yes. - Tell us about, you know, how we've been able to innovate a little bit as well. - Well, we've now nipped a docuSign, which enables people not to have to come to the office so they can do that via electronic means. So, you're planning documents, you no longer have to, people are too poor, they can just sign documents, send them back through this docuSign. And PEXA settlements, that's all done electronically.(...) - Electronic settlements, - Electronics settlements. - Fantastic fun. - Amazing, it's quick, it's an easy process. Even for me, for me, my line of work, I can lodge now my laws through PEXA. I don't have to send documents down to the Land Registry Office in New South Wales.(...) We can do things electronically through titles Queensland. I no longer have to get somebody to run down to titles at Robina or go up to Brisbane. It's amazing. It saves a lot of time and it's very convenient for our clients too. - Yeah, so we've managed to evolve with the technology so that the people who still wanna come in can come in. But if you wanna deal with us externally, no problems. - That's exactly right. And a lot of our developers prefer it that way. They're obviously very busy people. And if they can do it electronically and not have to come in, that works for them. But in the same regard, happy to have them come in and meet them personally. So we get both. - Yeah, look, that's fantastic, Diana. And look, from the team at OMB, obviously,(...) you are the heart and soul, 35 years. - Thank you. - And thanks for joining us on the episode. And I'm sure the audience has got to know you a little bit more today. - Thank you. It's been very special.(...) (upbeat music)
