Unstoppable Babe Show

What This Episode Is About

You didn't inherit your limits, you inherited a story, and you can hand it back. In this first episode, Annette breaks down the exact moment her life changed (it wasn't slow, it was one decision) and the belief system she built afterward that turned "bad knees" into marathons, a half Iron Man, and a top-tier sponsored athlete career.

Key Points
  1. Life doesn't change slowly! It changes in a moment of decision.
Annette traces her own turning point back to a single session in instructor training, where she decided who she wanted to be before she had any proof she could become it. Once the decision was made, her life reorganized around it — not gradually, but immediately.
  2. Belief is chosen. It's never inherited.
Growing up, Annette was told her family "has bad knees," repeated so often it started to sound like fact. In college, she made a different choice: I have great knees. That single decision became the foundation for marathons, a half Iron Man, and the athletic career she has today. The lesson: beliefs aren't facts, they're just thoughts repeated enough times to feel true, and you get to choose which ones you keep.
  3. You don't need permission. You need a decision.
Annette unpacks how much energy goes into asking everyone else's opinion before acting. The shift happens when you stop outsourcing that permission and start deciding on your own terms. Life reorganizes around a decision, not around a poll.
  4. Faith first, then the result.
Belief has to come BEFORE the proof shows up, not after. Waiting for evidence before you believe is doing it backwards, and it makes everything take longer and feel harder. Decide first. Let the evidence catch up.
  5. Confidence is built, not given.
The "receipts" — the body, the business, the relationships — are the evidence of a belief you held before anyone else could see it. That kind of confidence can't be bought or complimented into existence. It's earned, one decided belief at a time.
Quotable Lines
"Beliefs are never facts. They're just simply beliefs."
"You become the proof, and then the evidence shows up."
 "Confidence isn't bought. It's earned."
"Life doesn't actually change slowly. It changes in a moment of decision."
"I have great knees, and it's because I simply chose what belief I wanted to choose."

For Listeners
Ask yourself: what's the "bad knees" story in your life, the one you've repeated so often it sounds like fact? You get to decide right now that you're done carrying it, and delete it forever.

Annette Perkins:

You can customize your life and your body exactly how you want. And anyone who tells you otherwise is operating from their limiting beliefs. They're literally full of it. Life doesn't actually change slowly. It changes in a moment of decision.

Annette Perkins:

I was in instructor training for the first time and I was currently a binge eater. I was recently married and I had no idea what I was doing with my life even though I was still in the middle of grad school. I sat in that session as the trainer was guiding us and speaking, I had this moment of like, this is what I want. This is who I want to be. This is how I want to live my life.

Annette Perkins:

I want to inspire other people through my words. And this sounded completely crazy because at the time, I was secretly still binge eating a little bit. I had just recently been married and had a lot of limiting beliefs. So I was keeping myself back without realizing that I was the one doing it. I was the one that was causing my unnecessary suffering over and over and over again.

Annette Perkins:

But in that moment, it was just a moment, my life changed. That is how life changes. It's one moment, one decision. I decided. I was done negotiating and I'm like, this is the path.

Annette Perkins:

This is where I'm going. And when that one decision is made, success becomes inevitable because you start to be hungry for the result. You're hungry and so you become relentless and you you stop running past ideas, everyone. You stop asking for everyone's opinion. You stop listening to everyone's opinion.

Annette Perkins:

You stop asking for permission, and you just decide. And then life reorganizes around that decision. That is so powerful. It's just a decision and when it clicks where it's like oh this has been me all along. This is me.

Annette Perkins:

This is what I want to do. This is my passion. And it took being in a situation where I was completely new. I had no idea what I was doing. I was not a great instructor at first but I knew that that was the level I wanted to get to.

Annette Perkins:

I wanted to raise the bar on my life and I needed someone else to show me the way. And once I saw it it's like bam decision made on to the path I went. So number one in a moment of decision your life will reorganize and then you can customize it exactly how you'd like. And what's crazy is that I completely not only shifted my belief system but I also changed my body, changed my mindset, and have impacted thousands of people just from that one moment of decision. So second point, I had to choose to believe that I could do it.

Annette Perkins:

Belief is chosen it's not inherited. When I was younger, I heard in our family that we had bad knees. I was told that with bad knees over and over and over. And so whenever something happened when I was playing field hockey or swimming or dancing, I was like oh it's because you have bad knees in your family like over and over and over again. And I remember in college I was like no that's not for me.

Annette Perkins:

That's not for me. I actually have great knees. And I ran I went on to run marathons and and do half iron man and become a fitness instructor and now a top tier sponsored athlete. I have great knees. I have great knees.

Annette Perkins:

And it's because I simply chose what belief I wanted to choose. That's it. They're just simply chosen. And then you build a belief system around your choices. You don't have to inherit these other beliefs that maybe your family gave you.

Annette Perkins:

You become conscious of recognizing, oh, I actually don't wanna keep that. That's not true for me. Beliefs are never facts. They're just simply beliefs. They're just chosen thoughts over and over and over again.

Annette Perkins:

And if you don't choose them deliberately somebody else will and then that becomes your belief system. So when we were little when we were younger kids we tended to adopt whatever belief system our family had about health and wealth and management and leadership and goals. Whatever they had as their belief system, we tended to adopt. And it just kind of got meshed into our subconscious, and we just kept moving from that identity, those beliefs. But beliefs can be dropped anytime.

Annette Perkins:

They can also be picked up anytime. It's like luggage. Leave it at the door or go grab a new one. Beliefs. You don't have to adopt what your family handed you.

Annette Perkins:

You don't have to keep listening to those beliefs. You get to have and believe on purpose. And the art of belief of actually simply just believing before the proof shows up, before the evidence, before the receipts, that is the art of creating an unshakable belief system where you don't have to run around asking for everybody else's opinion like do you think that's a good idea? Like should I do that? No.

Annette Perkins:

You just decide to believe it and you go. And you don't have to listen to the different beliefs or labels that society is giving you when it comes to your body, to your health, to your career, to your family. You get to decide what you believe on purpose. And it actually the art of belief surpasses the science of it. And when you marry the two together you create an unstoppable mindset.

Annette Perkins:

You become relentless because you've decided you're hungry for the results and now you have the belief to back it up. And it surpasses whatever proof is already in the world because you believe first and then you become the proof and then the evidence shows up. That's how it works. Faith first then the result shows up. So if we're waiting for the result to show up and then we'll believe we're doing it backwards, it's gonna take way longer.

Annette Perkins:

It's gonna feel way harder. So consciously figure out what are the beliefs that I've adopted from my family, from society that don't serve me anymore And get rid of them. Drop them off like luggage. Bye bye. Don't want that anymore.

Annette Perkins:

And pick up new ones. Go buy yourself new ones and decide this is the baggage I want to take with me that feels lighter and cleaner and fits my vibe and whatever I want to build in my life. You can customize your life and it simply comes down to that belief system. I have great knees and I've decided that. It's a belief I have and I keep training in my fitness training as well as my mind to continue to believe that I'm gonna have great knees until the moment we're out.

Annette Perkins:

Right? So whatever belief it is about your body, about your health, about your wealth, about your business, about your goals, your career, You get to decide those. It really is just a simple decision and then you just take that belief with you. I believe that I am an unstoppable athlete. I believe that I am a relentless person and when it comes down to your identity and who you think you are that is the kind of belief that is unshakable.

Annette Perkins:

And nobody can stop you once you decide this is how I act, this is who I am, and these are the beliefs that I hold. And it has to serve you and your values and your goals and the vision that you have for your life. Because if it's not serving you then it's just bogging you down. When you have beliefs about I am not enough. I am too bossy.

Annette Perkins:

I am fat. This is just how my family is. All of those things will continue to cap our potential and keep serving up these limiting stories that are keeping us from what we really want and the vision that we really have for our life. You become the proof, and then the evidence shows up. And then you're walk around with all these receipts.

Annette Perkins:

You're like, yeah. Now my strong body is one of my receipts. It's the evidence of the belief I had in myself and in my training, and now it just shows up on my body. It shows up after I believed. If I kept adopting the belief that I had bad knees because I lived in this family because I have these genes, that definitely would have kept my potential.

Annette Perkins:

Absolutely. And I would have probably not thought it was possible to do what I've done and to completely reshape my body, change my relationship with food, and actually become a really empowered person. So take the time. Figure out what are those beliefs that you keep saying to yourself that your family just keeps saying. It sounds like truth.

Annette Perkins:

That's the problem. It sounds like facts and it's just straight up thoughts that have been repeated. That's it. And as we know with mindset training you can train your mind. Your brain is your most powerful asset so you get to decide what thoughts you're going to think over and over.

Annette Perkins:

Because the brain really doesn't care what's true, it just cares what's repeated. So whatever you're continuously telling yourself and what you're continuously believing is what will keep being repeated and showing up as evidence for your life. Finally, you build the receipts and that's where confidence comes in. So it's where it comes from. And when you stop outsourcing permission to everybody else and trying to find out, well, what do they think?

Annette Perkins:

What opinion do they have about this? And you stop doing that and you start giving yourself permission. You're like, yeah this is just who I am. This is how I'm going to do it. You start creating your own permission and that is how you start building receipts.

Annette Perkins:

The receipts are going to show up everywhere: your body, your health, your wealth, your relationships, your business, your career, your leadership. And that kind of confidence isn't bought. It's earned. It can't be handed to you. It can't come from compliments.

Annette Perkins:

It's always earned. And when it's earned it feels incredible because you know you're the one who did that. You're the one who built that. You didn't quit. You didn't wait for applause.

Annette Perkins:

You didn't stop when nobody was watching. You stayed in the game. You stayed hungry. You stayed relentless. And you chose on purpose a belief system that was going to create the vision you had for your body, for your life, for your health.

Annette Perkins:

Whatever it is that your vision is for your life you can customize it exactly how you want and it's crazy when people are like you're so lucky you get to work from home while your kids are at school and then you're around when they're home. I'm like, that's not luck. This is earned. This was decided. This was believed, and then I took action on it.

Annette Perkins:

I stopped walking around looking at everybody else and being like, let me see if they think this is a good idea for my life. No. I just gave myself permission and said this is what I'm gonna do and nobody's gonna stop me. It comes down to deciding who you are, being this unshakable belief system, and then you build the receipts from there. It's always earned.

Annette Perkins:

So you don't need more permission. You don't need to wait. You don't need to ask anybody else. Can I do this for my life? You just need a decision, a belief you refuse to let go of, and the willingness to go build the proof.

Annette Perkins:

And it's so much fun. It's so much fun because you get to customize life exactly how you like it. You don't to worry about anyone else's opinions. You get to pop on a podcast and make your own podcast and show and create your own business and help tons of people and impact and create more income and actually create a legacy that you're proud of because you decided I'm unwilling to quit because this is the kind of life I want. This is the legacy I wanna leave.

Annette Perkins:

And that is so meaningful. It's so fun. It's so fun. So as we finish, I want you to know that you have this inside of you, every single one of us. Like, if me, a person who walked into an instructor training who had no idea what it was and was still secretly binge eating, was...

Annette Perkins:

Is still in grad school, having no idea what really to do with her degree or her life, can do this. Like, I promise. I have no more smarts or confidence or connections that you don't have. This is all trainable. It's all trainable.

Annette Perkins:

You can train your nervous system. You can master your mindset, and you can make your decisions on what kind of beliefs you want, and then you just go. And you create the receipts for your life, customizing your life exactly how you want it. That is how Unstoppable Women are built. We're not running around waiting for proof from everybody else and permission.

Annette Perkins:

We're just silently building receipts and letting them speak. This is available to anybody. It's so much fun. So much fun. And I love when the kids are like, oh my gosh, mom.

Annette Perkins:

Did you build that? Is that really what you're doing? Your life gives everybody else permission to redefine what's possible for them. That's what's so fun. It's not going to look exactly the same as mine.

Annette Perkins:

You get to customize it like an outfit. Like maybe you want the top and the jean jacket. Maybe you want just the top and the earrings and then different pants. Maybe you'll take a little piece of there and a little piece of that, a couple of those beliefs that I have, and build your own. And that feels so joyous and so energetic.

Annette Perkins:

You come from a place of like, yeah, I own this. I built this. Let's go. So if anyone can do it, it's you. Take care.

Annette Perkins:

God bless.
