And here’s today’s news from Public Sector Executive – on Monday the 1st July 2024.

Institute for Government has published a report exploring how a potential Labour government can work to overcome the barriers that will hinder progress towards clean power by 2030.
According to the report, there are ten major barriers to hitting the Labour target of 2030 for the decarbonisation of power, with a plan being required for the work that will take place in the first week, month, and 100 days of their taking control of government.
Some of the things that the potential new government must do in the first week include reaffirming the importance of decarbonising power, setting out the form the GB Energy will take, and deciding on the scope of legislation to be included in the first King’s speech.

The Local Government Association has outlined the 100 offers for the new government, to be made within the first 100 days after election.
These offers were informed by the LGA’s Local Government White Paper, which was published last week and outlines the priorities for the future of local government in England.
In the White Paper, the LGA said that “there has never been a more difficult time for local government. Rising demand and costs have meant the toughest of choices, with less to spend on the services that communities value.”

London Councils has announced that its Low Carbon Development Toolkit was recognised at the 2024 Planning Awards, as it supports work to address climate change.
The toolkit was developed in collaboration with the London Borough of Hackney, and helps planning teams to as they develop low carbon buildings and infrastructure, whilst also supporting innovation.
Thirteen documents come within the toolkit, offering advice, guidance and practical steps to take as councils work to support the development and implementation of low carbon policies.
