The Alighted Way

🎙️ Episode Summary

In this episode of The Alighted Way, recorded on International Women’s Day, Colleen sits down with Edie — a counselor, educator, and Soul Coaching® practitioner — to explore her remarkable journey into the world of dragons. What began with a gifted book and a Reiki vision became a living relationship with a baby dragon named Folly, discovered at the sacred site of Newgrange in Ireland.

Edie shares how the fire and water dragon came into her life, what it means to work with the elements through Soul Coaching®, and how Diana Cooper’s dragon teachings connected her spiritual dots. She reflects on the playful, creative energy Folly carries — a reminder not to take life too seriously — and shares her vision of writing dragon fables inspired by these encounters.

The conversation also touches on the divine feminine, the goddess connections to dragon energy, and why dragons may be showing up in so many people’s lives right now.

Welcome back to The Alighted Way. We're going to jump from the frying pan straight into the flames of a different fire in this next episode, as Colleen interviews Edie, Edie shares her stories about how she and her dragon discovered each other and the beautiful real world result of that relationship. This show is about pushing limits into the unknown, discovering who we really are, and celebrating the moments that make us feel alive. So let's get into it.

Colleen 00:36
Hello everyone, and welcome to The Alighted Way happy to have today Edie. She's our guest today, and I also just want to give a shout out to all the lovingly fierce women out there for International Women's Day. So we're going to be giving every woman a hug today. So let me introduce you to Edie. She is a counselor, educator and soul coaching practitioner who enjoys helping people to discover their way in the world. She has developed unique and creative ways to bring knowledge, wisdom and wonder to assist young people to adults in discovering their pathway. She is a knowledge seeker, creative wanderer, wonderer, both nature lover and enjoys reading, writing, weaving, designing, painting, drawing and being a world traveler. So Edie, thank you so much for coming in and sharing your stories about dragons with us today, and I think we're just gonna jump right into the fire here. I hope you have a great time doing this. I hope it's a lot of fun for you, because it is for me.

Colleen 01:50
Thank you for having me.

Colleen 01:53
Our pleasure. The first thing I'd like to ask is just, how did you encounter first encounter dragons in your world. How did it all begin?

Edie 02:05
How did it all begin? It began? Well, it began when a friend of mine, who had a new age store, she gave me a dragonology book one time, and I really enjoyed the pictures and the color and all of that kind of thing. And then I went to, actually did a Reiki session with person who's also a medium. And when I went through the session, I kept seeing visions of through the the session of orange eyes. There were like dragon eyes, and I was seeing everything through the dragon eyes, so as if I was was the dragon. And intrigued me that I would see that sort of visioning through these eyes. And I thought, what's that all about? So we, we talked about it afterwards a bit. I then started diving in a little bit more into I needed to know more about dragons. I actually looked at a lot of Diana Cooper's work. She has written the book about dragons, and she also has the oracle cards, and so I did a lot of reading in that area and so on, and and found it really fascinating. I worked through a lot of her information and and how it connected into the elements and so on, which is also part of what happens with soul coaching, working with the different directions and the air and the fire and the earth and the water, and how the dragons connect into that. So it was kind of pulling a lot of things together.

Colleen 03:49
Oh, fantastic. No, it's it's really interesting how Reiki has been playing a role in the Dragon World. I think that's kind of neat. Do you have your cards with you?

Edie 04:01
I actually do.

Colleen 04:02
Would you mind giving us a reading? Just pull a card for our our session, or for the audience?

Edie 04:09
Okay, okay, I can. Yeah, they're fascinating. It's, it's an interesting area. It's an earth dragon.

Colleen 04:26
Oh, look at the Earth dragon. Right on.

Edie 04:28
Clears your path in the land around you. Stay grounded. Be ready to serve. Stuck e nergy is clearing. You can move forward in life. I think we all need that right now. Oh, for sure, right?

Colleen 04:41
Oh my gosh, what a beautiful dragon, wonderful. Well, all right. Well, thank you for that little aside. But let's get back to your dragon. How did do you have a dragon? Do you care for talk to a dragon or

Edie 04:59
I do. Because last year, in May, I guess, think it was, I went to Ireland, and I was on a journey look through a lot of the different sacred sites and so on. And I was at Newgrange. I was well, I went through the the whole area there, but there was a, sort of a, looked like a stone igloo in the back, okay, part of it. And apparently it's called the folly. It's kind of a hut. And there's controversy over what the what it was all about, but it apparently was built from stones from Newgrange, so there's a lot of the energy from that within it. And I was looking through this stone window, and another one of the girls took a picture through the stone window, and it my hair was kind of flying in the air and and there was an aura of color all around, like the turquoises and yellows and reds and so on. And then it I was a feeling that that I had. I didn't see any dragon at that time, but after I came back, I went to see this medium again. And she said, You in Ireland picked up a baby dragon guide. And I so, I Oh, okay, so then I showed her she hadn't seen the picture. She says, I see all this color. And of course, I love color, so yellows and the and the and the blues and turquoises and so on. And that's kind of the colors of a fire and water dragon. And the fire and water dragon is one that's all about play. And that's sort of been a message that I've been getting, that I need to do more play and be more creative and so on. So it was quite appropriate and that, but I hadn't connected it when I was there, but after she she told me about it, then it was like, wow, that. I just got shivers from the fact that she picked up on all of that. And then a few weeks later, I went into a store, and I was on the counter, there was this baby dragon coming out of an egg. I said, I have to have this. This is my baby dragon.

Colleen 07:35
Oh, amazing.

Edie 07:38
And so I have it on an altar in my in my room,

Colleen 07:44
fantastic,

Edie 07:46
So I can communicate. At the time it didn't. I kept asking what its name was. So then I did a lot more research into the the New Grange and where this was, and discovered it was called the folly. I've named my dragon Folly.

Colleen 08:09
Oh, okay. Oh, that's brilliant. Oh, that's fantastic.

Edie 08:13
So I thought that that made the most sense to me of all of that.

Colleen 08:20
So is your baby dragon growing is he growing up? Or is he or she? I don't know. Is it a he or she? I don't know.

Edie 08:29
It's a she. It's more of a she. She's very playful. And there was a picture of when I did my research. There's a picture on the internet of the inside of the of that cave cut right and it, and I could see her that playing in there, like in in the whole thing. So I think there's a story to come out of this. I want to pursue that. I want to do some writing and so on and see what some of the adventures might be.

Colleen 09:06
Oh, and what a great way from there where Folly might go, Yeah,

Edie 09:13
Might go. So it's kind of a interesting I've been looking at rearranging my my my life in many ways,

Colleen 09:22
Right?

Edie 09:23
And looking at what pathway is forward for myself. And I thought this gives me some fodder for for writing and looking at what this might be, because sometimes with some of my meditations, I've had dragons where I'm on the back of the dragon and going different places and and doing different things. And so I kind of want to bring some of that into stories, something that has a message to it, in terms of, like a fable of some. Kind or something like that that's instigated in me.

Colleen 10:05
The fables of Folly. I love it. Oh, that's great

Edie 10:13
Taking life a little less serious, or or helping people to take life a little less serious.

Colleen 10:18
Oh, my gosh, world. Do we need a little bit of that? Hey, like, just, yeah, just have a little fun. Good fun, good clean fun.

Edie 10:29
Yeah. So, so that kind of where Folly is at.

Colleen 10:32
So does Folly, Folly obviously comes to you in meditations, and you say that, you talk to her at your desk, at your altar and and you hear,

Edie 10:49
It's more of a feeling. It's more more of a feeling. It's more well. But ideas do come in terms of, what would those adventures be and what would you be doing? Yeah, yeah. And I also, well, I also have a lot of Fairy Doors and so on. So there's the whole portal aspect of things to go through.

Colleen 11:14
Oh, how fascinating, yeah.

Edie 11:17
Bring some of that kind of thing into and with the elements and what they mean and and kind of bringing some ideas together.

Colleen 11:29
Oh, that sounds fantastic. I look forward to reading this then. Edie, so

Colleen 11:39
You've had Folly for a year.

Edie 11:41
No, not quite a year. No Folly is about, I guess, about six months.

Colleen 11:46
Oh, six months. Okay, and do you have any other dragons?

Edie 11:51
No, other than seeing through, through the eyes of a dragon? No, I go when I've gone to some of the sacred sites. That is, I see kind of people from a different era through the Dragon Eye.

Colleen 12:08
Oh, okay. That is cool. That is

Edie 12:12
So it's, I don't know, it's just a strange phenomena that happens.

Colleen 12:17
Okay. Oh, cool. Okay. What do you think does, does your dragon have any kind of messages for us here today?

Edie 12:28
I think it's, I think it's all about play. We need to play more.

Colleen 12:33
Oh, I love that message. We do. We really do.

Edie 12:35
And be, be more creative. I know the that you know, the world is out there and doing its thing, but, yeah, it's we need to to be more playful, and I myself to not taking things so seriously,

Colleen 12:36
Right? Oh, good. Well, yeah, so you're like me. You're like a baby dragon here. Dragon here. I don't know what do we call ourselves? Dragonistas, I don't know. So we haven't been in this too long. But the bigger picture, why do you think the dragons are here? Are they here to help us to I mean, other than the play, but I mean like, because we have seen so many different ways in which dragons have worked with everybody that's been on the show so far. What do you think the bigger picture around that is?

Edie 13:28
Well, I think I mean, if I look at Diana Cooper's work, which is what I've based a lot of my knowledge on, she looks at all the different dimensions and levels of where people are at in the world, and how it's connected to the astrological side of things and and the elements and and so on. So I haven't quite kind of got my head around all of it in terms of of that, but a lot of it is, is looking at at, you know, all, are there other beings out there, how that where, where the dragons fit into to all that and what they bring to us and or help us with, like burning off energies, clearing things out, getting rid of the negativity and and that sort of thing. So just trying to do more research on it.

Colleen 14:31
Oh, good, good, because it is Women's Day. Do you find that dragons are, I guess I don't know. Is it? Don't know quite about the question about that, but it's like, do you think they're here for to help the women build themselves up the courage like, I know that's for me. It was dragons are huge for my courage?

Edie 14:50
Right. I think it has a lot to do with the divine feminine and the the matriarchal and the goddesses, because it's all it's linked into some of the goddess work from how they connect it to the dragon so, but I haven't, I don't have enough knowledge at this moment.

Colleen 15:10
Okay, all right. Well, thank you. Thank you for

Edie 15:14
I just, you know, it's, it's, it's so interesting. And what the book does is it does a lot of visualizations in it. So you go through and do the visualizations, and it's kind of interesting, the the outcomes and stuff.

Colleen 15:32
So, Oh, very cool. I think I'll look into that book, which will will get a we'll get the name and then title of that book, and put it in with our show notes as well. Is there anything we haven't talked about yet that you feel is important about dragons or you and your dragon, that we should know about before we wrap up?

Edie 15:49
I guess the the fire and water dragon is the one that sort of tends to connected to what Folly is okay in the fire the fire dragon is is burning off the lower energies. And I am also Sagittarian, and a fire sign and and the fire horse year.

Colleen 16:02
Oh my, yes, that's right.

Edie 16:16
And then the other one is water, which is love and play and all of that sort of thing. It's kind of a combination of of those things. So I think pulling that all together and helps me in terms of calming things down and and not being so anxious about the world out there and what's happening.

Colleen 16:37
Right. Yeah, it's kind of like a your keystone touch stone for here. Yes, I agree. Well, thank you so much for sharing your stories about Folly and your experiences. I just, I think it's just lovely. I hope I'm really looking forward to whatever you create about Folly.

Edie 17:00
Yeah, we'll see as I go along.

Colleen 17:04
So well. Thank you very much, and I hope you have I hope you have a great day.

Edie 17:10
Super Thank you.
