Hello, everybody.
How are you today?
Plans fix problems.
Well, there you go.
That's what the title says.
Message for me today.
It's so interesting to think about.
Sometimes we make the plans,
and then life happens
and you just have to roll with it.
Getting a little late
start for my live show today, because,
what is there that Mike Tyson
quote is like?
Everybody has a plan
until you get punched in the mouth.
We make our best plans
and then we do our best.
I think I was reading something
the other day.
It was saying,
It's not the people with the best plans
that have success.
It's the people who are most adaptable,
the most flexible.
So we'll keep that in mind today as we are
exploring this topic,
being
adaptable in the midst of our planning.
How does that sound?
I like it.
To me,
it sounds like taking the pressure off.
We don't need a perfect plan.
We don't need a perfect anything.
Maybe just a perfect heart,
perfect intention.
We'll get into and then do our best and
have a grace with ourselves along the way.
How are you doing today?
Let me know in the chance.
Let me know in the comments!
How is your health journey going?
What our wins?
What our struggles that you are dealing
with?
Very happy always to hear.
I am carrying on with my process,
with my little monitor
and I'm making a video for you
spending most of my time this week.
Honestly making a
video about my experience
using the monitor
and watching what I am eating.
And I tell you,
this is a way to make a plan.
And as we think about it today,
are you looking
for a process
to move forward on a health journey?
Whether that looks like losing weight,
increasing energy and focus,
getting blood sugar, blood pressure,
cholesterol, all these metabolic markers
in a better place,
maybe a CGM is something even one of them,
you know, it's like 50 bucks.
I bought this one,
put it on, and I'm getting insights on it
personally like that.
I'm really going to use
just to think about.
I think I said on the other session,
I had an oatmeal the other day.
I couldn't
believe how high my blood sugar went.
And so yesterday the test was
getting on the bike, eating breakfast
and then getting on the bike.
And then I did a nice
kind of medium low bike, not aggressive
by any means.
And how much did we take off?
You know, 40 points on the blood sugar
make such a difference.
Ask any questions you have about it.
And I love
I love to have a further chat about it.
This book, The Mountain is you.
I've got a playlist of this.
So many good insights in this book.
We just got a couple pages
left at the end,
this little subchapter.
Well, I mean, there are like chapters
and sub chapters
galore in this.
The chapter
is from self-sabotage to self-mastery.
And then we've got a chapter
on becoming mentally strong.
And then we have a section heading,
get a plan because plans fix problems.
I really like that.
And I say especially a functional plan,
we're going to get into that.
We can have plans
that couldn't possibly work.
We need a functional plan.
But here is what
Briana Waste says.
Mentally strong people are planners
and I love that
I am working,
so I want to be mentally strong.
I want you to be mentally strong.
You know, this is a big idea of,
everything that I want happening
on this channel,
a process day by day, stepping forward,
building our mental strength
so that we can overcome obstacles
that have impeded us
in the past.
She goes on.
They think ahead.
They prepare.
They do what is best
for the long term outcome.
Hey, I like that.
I like that when I'm reading something
like this personally,
the mountain is you
listen to the sub headings
Transforming Self-sabotage
into self-mastery.
Well, that's our chapter now and then
it says The Ultimate Seekers Guide
for those brave enough
to face their true north
and take their power back.
Well, I like that.
What are we taking our power back from?
That's what I think when I read that.
What is taking our power, I don't know.
Is it complacency or apathy?
We are taking it back
from abstract psychological forces.
Or maybe we're taking it back
from discouraging stories
we've told ourselves
because of something that happened,
or because of a failure that we have.
I like that idea.
I take it back.
Self-limiting beliefs we have.
We're we're capturing.
The steering
wheel, the rudder on the ship.
You know,
maybe we got knocked off in a fierce wind
and where our boat is going, like,
this is what I'm feeling.
Like we got to get back to that
captain's wheel.
Steady the ship,
I like it.
Think ahead. Prepare.
Do what's best for the long
term, isn't it?
Oh, man.
I'm just kind of thinking
about this thing.
We get into this right here.
Maybe I should just read this second part,
but we think, okay, long term.
Also, living in the present aren't
these two things we're trying to do.
You can think, well,
we don't want to be living in the future.
We want to be living in the present.
Here's here's what they say about that.
You might think, I know I do, that
planning for the long term outcome
can disconnect you from the moment,
but the opposite is true.
Whirring disconnects you from the moment.
Overthinking disconnects
you from the moment
when you are consistently sidelined
from your own anxiety.
Yeah.
Oh, not from it.
I was reading it.
Oh, we're sidelined from it.
Like we don't have it.
No, the anxiety is sidelining us.
When you are consistently sidelined
by your own anxiety, it's
because you don't have a plan
regarding the thing that is making you
scared or anxious.
Oh,
I love how this book really makes
you think, really makes you get into it.
So what is the difference
between a plan and worrying?
Isn't that kind of interesting?
Can't you see that that could be
a complicated space planning good.
Worrying bad.
Do you ever worry about the future?
Does that take you out of the present
here, they're suggesting
a plan
can actually ground you in the present.
Don't have to worry
because the plan is kind of
extinguishing it.
Extinguish the worry with a plan.
How do you do that?
I say she says, think about something
you are not scared of.
Do you know why you aren't scared of it?
Because you have a plan
for what you would do
if it were to happen,
and so you're able to let go of that
anxiety and be present.
She ends this little section.
If you don't have a plan,
you're going to keep having a problem.
So that's pretty interesting
to bring into our space, I think.
What do you think of this section?
What are things that cause worry?
What are limiting beliefs
or situations in our health space
if we're going to bring it
into that space,
if we think about the different tools
in our toolkit, the different
paints that we can
paint from our palette, with
our exercise brush
that we're spreading across,
how are you doing on that?
So something that you are scared of,
is there something that you are
limiting is their way
to have a plan to deal with it?
I exercise in a certain ways, like
I having discomfort with it, you know.
Can you get a physical therapist?
Are there people you can bring along
the journey to help remove barriers?
Are we pushing ourselves
too hard in a space?
Maybe we need to set a smaller
step to get somewhere.
Like, how about our eating space?
So important.
Maybe the core thing in this.
This space
are the things that we're afraid of.
Or do it.
What if I didn't have, like,
this food that I really like?
Wouldn't
I feel badly like these are the things
that we try to do here
is I got like my fasting Aids video.
We talk about
how do we plan, what are we going to do?
What's the plan
B always having grace for ourselves.
These are the plans.
The best that I can come up with.
You share yours. Let's all learn.
Like how do we approach
every situation that could happen?
So be thinking through it ahead of time.
We're not worrying.
It's anti worrying.
When this happens
I'm going to do this right.
Because think of all the thinking
we've done when we flow
through these cycles
without a plan, isn't it.
Like anything
can happen our our mind that creative type
two thinking from thinking fast
and slow right.
It's not us, it's just the center.
It's generating ideas and possibilities
and it's intuitive.
Right.
And then things just start happening
and all of a sudden
our conscious mind can be like, whoa,
what are we doing?
Like, we weren't going to do that.
Like, I didn't like here we finding
ourselves in this pattern again.
So this is getting us into
that space,
being very thoughtful, making a plan.
Like when we're out of a space,
we're not hungry.
Right.
Like we had a meal we can, like,
think clearly, say, here is the plan.
I think I'm going to be eating
at this time and in this space.
And then when this is not going to happen,
I'm going to be doing that.
We think of our fasting space.
Do you plan for it?
You know, I love planning things out.
I love the other side of it
being intuitive, seeing how things go.
But maybe the plan is,
you know, on that level,
it's like, I think we're going to do this
and then we're going to see how it goes.
And then when we've done this
enough times, we can see, yeah,
the energy is flowing in this space.
Let's go with it and then see
this is the flexibility right.
Bend but don't break.
So when I read this I was thinking of,
one of the first videos
that I made on the channel.
What did I even call it?
Why? Some people lose weight
when many don't.
And I made a a thumbnail for it is.
I think it's the only time I've done
one of these like ridiculous fake
YouTube shock thumbnails.
It's like every do you see this?
Every other weight loss or health video?
I see somebody like,
I got a crazy exaggerated Shaq thing.
I think, you know,
I just try to get somebody to click on
something and,
I think it works, you know?
But I don't like doing it.
I show you this is the thumbnail.
Here's
the let's see if I got this set up right.
Yeah.
There you go.
I put I put doctor Z on the old school TV.
If you're listening on the podcast,
you can imagine doctor Z with a
kind of a shocked face, like to be like,
oh my gosh, you wouldn't believe this.
Is there a weight loss secret?
This is the most clickbait
thing I've ever made.
But I mean, I think it's kind of true.
I don't think I'm going to get into that.
But, you know, it does have 100 times
more views than anything that I
am making lately.
So, you know,
you know, when I read this,
I thought about what did she say,
like, make decisions for the long term,
you know,
don't make decisions for the short term.
To me,
I, you know, I don't know what happens,
you know, with my myself doctor
Z hanging out live.
Really nice to have you here with me
every,
everything I read online.
How do people succeed on YouTube?
They, they say don't make a live show.
That's one of them.
And do a lot of things like this,
a lot of clickbait sort of things.
To me.
I feel like if there's a cycle
that happens on YouTube,
maybe it's a couple years from now,
maybe people get sick of that
and they come back around.
I don't know.
That would be the long term idea.
I would like to collect an audience.
If there is a people
who would like that sort of thing,
you know, that would be beautiful.
Presumably that is you
if you are here with me.
So that's awesome.
But I thought I downloaded this, I walked
through it or I watched it myself.
I see, I thought I'd share
the video would go back.
We watch old school
doctor Z three years ago.
And you can give some feedback.
I will give myself feedback.
Well, think about what I was thinking
before I read that.
It felt it felt kind of like that
and getting into this space.
This is where I want to take our session.
Between, you know,
planning, not worrying,
but then functional plan.
That's what I really like about this video
that I go back to it is that, you know,
we talk about intention
and what it means to have, like, a will,
like tapping into our indomitable,
human spirit, you know?
But I got to tell you,
in my turn, in medicine, I've experienced,
A lot of people
who've brought a huge amount of intensity
and intention into things that,
that it wasn't sustainable,
it wasn't a functional process
that could even work, you know?
And so have you experienced
something like this?
You want something so badly,
you put your whole self into it
and then it fails. Right?
And or you like,
you can't keep up with it.
Maybe I think on a weight loss,
you know, journey,
somebody just burning themselves
out on a treadmill
and it's like it's kind of working,
but like you can't hang on to it.
You know, you can't keep up the pace
or you get hurt, you know,
then you're back with PT and it's like,
now we're back at square one.
So this is kind of where
I'm taking things in the vibe
with this video a few years ago.
Hey, thank you for this comment.
Good question.
I have suspended my looping thoughts
going into my fasting.
Hey that's cool.
Yeah, very,
very much like this intersection
of fasting space, openness in the body,
fasting space.
A mental fasting is in a meditation
as a space
to kind of clear out things in the mind.
And these to me, they feel connected.
Has this been your experience?
You, clear out
some space in the body is to me,
it's easier to kind of get things
to shut down, like if I'm going to try
to do a meditation which despite,
multiple years of trying to practice
it still isn't something that is easy
for me to do, something that
every time I get myself to do it,
you know, and I, I kind of settle into it,
then I always feel better after doing it
and I say, oh, thank goodness I did that.
It's harder for me to do it, like to eat
a big meal and then go try to do it.
I have less success personally
than if I am in a fasting space,
and everything's settling down.
Easier for me to get the looping thoughts
to stop.
That's what,
that's what my experience has been.
Okay.
Let's see. Have I set up
the thing to play?
Can we hear it without the crazy
audio looping I was getting?
I think so, well, let's watch doctor
Z old school.
I've been thinking a lot about why
only some people lose weight
when so many want to do it.
Is there some weight loss secret
that certain people figure out?
I really think there is.
And it's two essential parts.
Stick with me for each of them,
and I think you'll leave this video
feeling empowered to accomplish your goal.
There's no gimmicks or products to buy.
It's just two simple
truths about human nature and the body.
The first thing we need is intention.
Our desire, what we want.
That's emotion and everyone has.
That intention is what gets us through
when our emotions
get in the way of our goal.
Here's my working definition of intention.
It's desire for a goal, plus the will to
take action and make the desire reality.
Many people have a desire without the will
and that usually doesn't work.
That's like a sailboat without a rudder.
You know it,
it wants to sail, but it can't do it.
It's just floating aimlessly,
getting blown about.
Intention is the rudder that sets us on
our course and keeps us true to our mark.
And that intention resides right here.
I want you to think of the brain.
It contains our consciousness
and all our ideas and goals.
The entire structure
is there to support us
and help us accomplish what we want,
and we need to leverage it.
When we are clear on our intention,
everything in our being starts
lining up to support it.
You know our creativity starts
working the process and moving us forward.
Here's the trick
I can't teach you an intention.
Intention has to be built internally.
How do you do that?
I want you to get out a pen and paper and
write out your answer to this question.
What do I really want?
And then start honestly writing out
what's true about it.
What do you need to do to accomplish it?
This is how you start journaling.
You take the desire
and you focus on the truth
of the situation and the actions
that will move you forward.
Can you actually get your intention
out on paper?
That's what will make it concrete.
Now, I told you at the beginning it's
two components.
We all know the saying, well,
they had the best of intentions.
Our intentions have to be paired
with a functional plan.
Someone intends to lose weight,
and their plan is like,
I'm going to work out three hours
a day, every day until the weights normal.
Well, okay.
You know,
that might work for one out of 50 people.
So good for that person, but maybe not
so practical for most people.
This is where we come to fasting.
It's something that anyone can learn
to do,
and it takes no time and no physical work.
It's mental work.
This is something that I can teach you.
Check out our other videos here.
Like the Core Fasting series.
We reduce our meal frequency,
open up some food free space,
allow the body fat to fulfill
its natural purpose of powering our body.
This is the big weight loss secret.
You combine a sincere intention
with a functional fasting plan.
You cannot be stopped.
Oh man.
Doctor Z, even with a call to Action man,
I can't believe it.
Something I probably should do more.
I don't know.
So what do you think of that?
I think it's kind of fun.
That's me three years ago,
trying to lay out the secret pair.
The intention which we really powerfully
dive in there with a functional plan.
And that is the whole thing that I want.
Plans can fix problems
and functional plans, especially to me.
You know, historically, my experience
in medicine go through all the training,
all the process
and then primary care doctor
for whatever it was 12 years.
And,
you know, it's a very practical space.
You say someone comes in with problems,
how do we have solutions?
You know?
And the interesting thing to me is like
the primary problem like that
so many people have say,
you know, we're coming here
just a physical, what do we do?
Well, we're like the blood sugars.
Like look at the a onesie
creeping up like,
don't you wish the weight was optimized.
Spend the first half of my practice
very little success.
I knew nothing about fasting.
I give people advice
day after day for years.
They say like, look,
this is supposed to be easy.
You got to crank up the exercise.
Like we said in the video,
it's like if it's not working, like,
have you hit three hours a day yet?
Have you really tried?
And what I see is like, man,
we are guilt tripping people into like
like you're just not good enough.
You're not doing enough,
you're not working hard enough.
You know what I mean?
And then I was getting hit with that too,
because, like, then I tried to do it,
you know, that's what I was seeing.
I'm like, man, I'm.
I was running 70 miles a week at the peak,
and I was running
half marathons and training.
I could not lose the weight that I was
that I'd put on during my residency.
I was like, they're really hitting me.
I'm like, man, I've been working away
on this for like years now.
Like, I am young, relatively healthy,
like I am exercising at a level
that, you know, few people
relatively can do.
Like, I don't know if I even care
to continue at this crazy level forever.
And so now I was realizing I
was like the paradigm of advice
that I'm giving to people.
That has been what I have been taught,
which is just watch your calories,
you know, is like calorie as a calorie
and then get your exercise up.
Like, I saw very little results
from that for years
and including personally until fasting
came to me like a gift
when I just started to see like,
oh my gosh,
like, here's someone does some fasting.
This really help somebody, you know,
I was like, well, how do we start
bringing that into the mix?
You know, that's what I'm seeing.
Is there a more functional plan or process
that we can bring in
that can take some pressure off?
And that was that's what it felt like
to me, like a gift where I was like, oh,
they could bring in some fasting space,
actually exercise less,
but bring in the fasting to balance it.
I had I had more success
in a couple months of that
than I did in years of
just the the burning out
on the perspective.
It is like keep eating all the time,
but over exercise it over the amount
that is coming in
and try to bring it all into balance in
little bits, but not too much, you know?
It's just a mess to me.
That whole thing feels like a mess.
That's why I say in the video,
if one out of 50 people can do it,
you know,
do you think that's a fair number?
I just made that up.
But that kind of seems about what it is,
the person who has the time and space
in a day to exercise
for three hours and the desire to do it,
and they don't get hurt.
You know, I love it.
I don't care how anybody has the success
that they want, but I would just say,
after having, you know, thousands
of physicals with people for years
and just all these preventative
health visits, like very few people
going to take you up on 100% exercise
path, have you ever tried to do it?
And then the next step of it,
of course, is like pick the right diet.
And then there's so many philosophies
and perspectives that we say,
oh, you know,
the plan is actually
and then fill in the blank
with one of any of 100 different diets,
like the reason
everybody is having problems,
you didn't go keto or you didn't go
carnivore, or you didn't go
vegan or vegetarian,
or you didn't do the Dash diet perfectly,
or I'm a, you know, a primal
or a South Beach or,
you know, just go on
and on through every sort of thing.
Oh, you didn't go Mediterranean diet.
You know,
you listen to all these fad things, but
didn't you read the medical literature?
And actually Mediterranean diet
is the thing that is going to do it,
you know what I mean?
And so it's like we have all these plans.
And so, you know,
I went through tons of time with people
like 100% meal planning
or like a combination
exercise and meal planning
and like there is a space that can work.
And so bringing in a combination,
the cleanest eating and get
all the processed food out.
Super
diligent on pick any of these things.
So here's the thing. I don't know
if you have seen any of this.
Medical literature says every diet worked.
We should probably dive into that space.
I would say there is a pathway
for almost any diet to work.
From the standpoint of the idea
that a lot of what every diet does is it
gives you good options
so that you avoid the bad options.
It's the process food, the factory stuff,
the that has had all the fiber
and nutrients
stripped out of its synthetic ingredients
put in, filled with all kinds
of preservatives and garbage
so that I can have shelf life.
And all these things
have been specially engineered
to create profit margins for companies,
but not human health.
So any diet that gets you out of that
system is going to have tremendous value.
And I basically some all of the diets
together,
I say, look, here is a palette of paint
that you can paint with
and someone wants to eat
a little more meat
and someone wants a little more
vegetarian sort of thing.
And this is all beautiful to me.
You know, there
I have seen people thriving on
such a wide variety of diets.
And so that is fine.
And then so you,
you dial in the amount of exercise,
you dial in the amount of dietary space.
So I, I worked in that space.
I was doing that personally.
And here's the thing
I, I'm kind of I'm a health guy.
Right? I became a doctor.
I like to vote my life to being healthy
and help people to be healthy.
Right.
And I, I just tell you
from as much intensity as I could
bring to it a diet and an exercise space
was not enough for me.
That was not a functional plan.
I had a huge will.
You know, I have just I say I want to be
as healthy as I can possibly be.
I have a deep desire to understand,
you know, these things
and you know both for myself, like
I want to be healthy in the long term.
I want to have longevity
and spend as much time with my kids,
you know, as I possibly can, and
just squeeze every beautiful drop of life
out of this gift
that we have been given, you know?
And then I'm in a position
where I'm like interacting
with thousands of people
who all want the same thing.
And I just feel,
you know, also this responsibility, like,
if I can't figure this out for myself,
how am I supposed to help people do it?
And so,
this is the part about a functional plan.
So some people can can dial
that in on a thread, whereas like a dial
in the right amount of whatever diet
resonates most with my body
and the right amount of exercise
and it's working, and if someone says,
hey, that path works for me
and I don't ever have to do any fasting,
it's like,
I don't care, you know what I mean?
Nobody getting a silver medal
for more fasting.
You're not comparing ourselves
to anybody, right?
I just say, for my part.
It was fasting that unlocked it for me.
Where?
Now we have just another tool
in the toolkit.
You know,
I add in some 16,
eight on top of it, run a little bit less,
stay dialed in on the exercise,
and all of a sudden things
started working for me
and I was like, whoa.
And then I just kind of dial in on that.
Then I just explore that spectrum.
And when I realized, okay,
I found it difficult to do it first,
that was that was my thing.
I was like, I don't, you know,
if I didn't have a deep desire
to understand it,
I don't know, could I have stuck with it?
But then I was.
Hanging with it enough
as I have some results, is what I tell
people like.
That's why I like people
diving into the journal saying,
what was I feeling and experiencing?
Where was the weight?
How is my hunger? All these things?
I started opening up a couple weeks.
I'm like, oh, look at this.
Things feeling better
and then some results and feeling good.
Something you can lean into,
does it bring things into balance?
This is my experience.
And then I start sharing it with people
and then you start to see.
Oh, is this
something that can take the pressure off?
Here's another tool we didn't know we had.
Oh, is this something
that a human being can do and can it bring
results?
This is a thing that ultimately I wanted
the difference in my medical practice
between when I start adding that tool
to when I didn't have it.
This is like night and day.
It's like all of a sudden like,
here's something, you know, busy people.
What are busy people going to do?
You know, you say it's like, oh,
you're going to have me add another thing,
have another expense,
another gym membership,
more special meals,
more special supplements.
It's a big ask.
All of a sudden
fasting comes into the thing.
Less to do, less to by is nothing.
In fact, like I can get up,
I can have a coffee, which I like.
You're not taking away things
that I really like.
I call this contentment in a cup.
Now we just add that all of a sudden,
you know,
if you were having 400 calorie breakfast
and now it's not there, like,
this is a a huge change
in the energy balance in a day.
But if you can flow through it, it's
like I used to be having a bedtime snack,
but now it's gone.
Used to be 200 calories of popcorn
coming in, but now it's not.
And then
how is that affecting the hormones?
And you start to realize, oh,
there's a hormonal effects in the body.
Really powerful.
Thank you for this.
I think many people who have such
a metabolic dysfunction
cannot find a path or create results
without a significant
metabolic intervention like that,
which can be had with fasting.
Yeah, I really love that word
metabolic intervention.
You know, I just think that is the case.
Like someone with hyperinsulinemia
can even have challenges
with moving to a clean diet
and increased exercise
if they never entertain
interrupting that dysfunction.
Yeah, you can really be trapped.
This is the sort of thing we, we get into.
I, I like the paradigm of just saying
like tiny box.
I feel like the metabolic dysfunction
that is happening, it's like confronting
all of us.
It's just it's boxing us into a space
where we can feel trapped.
And what you're describing here, high
insulin levels, insulin drives hunger.
And so when insulin is high,
you know, it's part partly
hormones are driving
why we are having the experience we have.
We get into a space where
we're creating the physiologic
feeling or the body is experiencing
this feeling not satisfied.
The hormones are saying need to eat more.
Very hard to get in a space where,
okay, I hear doctor Z saying, well, this
I just feel content.
I flow through a space,
no hunger, you know?
And isn't everything great?
But then you say,
but my human experience isn't that,
you know, I start to do this and I don't,
you know, feel a peace and contentment.
Right?
I just feel hungry.
And it isn't it doesn't feel good. Okay.
This is the real critical space.
This is what I want to sit with everybody.
I feel like this is what I would
really want in the show, is everybody
who is experiencing this, which presumably
is just millions of people.
I say, let's just come together, okay?
And no sugar coating anything and and eyes
completely wide open to recognizes
a very difficult space.
And I have huge compassion for anybody
who is feeling this.
And let's take a deep breath
and we can digitally hold
hands together,
you know, and share the struggle of it.
And then that is the intervention, right?
The intervention is
you have to let that hormonal space
settle out in order
for the physical experience to go away.
Right.
And this is kind of like we can,
you know, get into our mental space.
How do we deal with trauma and difficulty
that has happened?
We bury these things in there.
We don't want to experience it.
The difficult but
real reality is how do you overcome
an experience of hunger?
How do you bring
the body back into balance?
How do you
create a space of peace and contentment?
You have to get those hormones
back in the places where they belong.
The body does not want to be.
It should not be.
The physiologic space
should not be hyperinsulinemia.
I mean, and it doesn't have to be anybody
who is experiencing it.
If you have insulin
resistance, pre-diabetes,
diabetes, anywhere along this spectrum,
if you have weight that you want to lose,
you have at least micro
levels of insulin resistance
to get to that place already.
So we have to undo that.
Can you die at your way into it
with a with a really low carb
sort of process?
Maybe you can. That's fine.
The most direct and open space
to do it, really to make
the process is short as possible
to just open up a fasting space.
You can you can watch this on a continuous
glucose monitor.
You know,
where is your blood sugar settling out at,
you know, and as you practice it,
if you got blood sugar elevated in a space
and you can see it,
you can already say, why eat another meal
when the last meal is already
still floating around in the bloodstream?
Right.
And so if you watch it,
you see, okay, meals still floating,
their energy is still here.
Let's just use that energy.
And and as that energy is going down
right.
Blood sugar level is dropping.
Then the drive for the insulin
is dropping. Right.
So here is why fasting is such
a powerful tool to get into that space
is just directly burning up the
the linchpin of the whole thing.
Say I want to pull that pin out.
You know, if that's the way to look at it,
just blow up the whole thing.
Now the
blood sugar is dropping and normalizing.
Now the insulin level is dropping.
We get through that space.
We said this the other day.
Do you see? Okay.
When Homer chained himself
to the power plant.
Whatever that we should find
that actual episode I'm just remembering.
Homer goes on a hunger strike for days,
and he's chained up and hungrier
and hungrier and hungrier.
Okay, but maybe this is a space.
I say simple fasting
because I like to say, can we just do
open up a couple more hours?
Could be even micro fasting.
Like this video I put out the other day.
Just take out a snack is like the start
of a little fasting space.
But the thing I love about fasting
we got a lot of power on tap.
It can be a shallow,
superficial process, help
meet someone where it is,
but can be very, very deep.
Okay?
And you can open up a big fasting space,
you know, how many times
are we eating in a day? Six, five. Four.
Three, two.
Now we're one.
Now we're really cranking it up.
Now we're having a full fasting day.
Big, big metabolic intervention
in the body.
Right.
And then of course you can open up
multiple days.
Now we're heading out of simple fasting
into advanced level fasting okay.
But sometimes there is a space.
We've sat on that line.
Sometimes
this is more what I would do
when I'm consulting with somebody,
especially when we can monitor somebody.
Look at all my disclaimers.
You start doing some advanced fasting
talk with your medical team about it,
especially if you take any medications,
check in on your kidney function
and electrolytes, and just make sure
that everything is in good shape.
But you want a metabolic intervention,
right?
Fast for a day. Whoa.
Fast for two days, all of a sudden, like,
what an incredible experience.
Have you ever done it in your life?
You know, I say, as much as anything
is just a human experience to do it.
And to me, the experience opening up
a bigger fasting space is just like it's
an empowering experience to realize, like,
I have energy and power here.
I can make it through this, you know,
if you call it an ordeal, I certainly say
it could be, but it's like a personal
growth challenge, you know?
And then just to realize you are opening
up a deep space of cleansing in the body.
Have you ever,
been sick like you've been really sick
or you just couldn't eat
and maybe you just didn't
eat for a couple of days?
Do you ever come out of that space
like the illness is gone
and it's like you feel like,
so good again.
Like it's like there's like a silver
lining sometimes.
Like part of it is,
you know, the body knows many times,
like we shut down the appetite.
Just force you into it because the body
needs to heal in that space, you know,
it needs to take all the resources
and send it towards
fighting the bad guys, you know?
If we can do it when we're sick,
how much more can we do it
when we're well and strong and we have our
every asset at our disposal
and we have the will, the intensity,
all of these sort of things, you know,
we can do it, you know,
and so nobody have to do it,
only do it
if you need to do it like and say maybe
even if you have exhausted
every single other alternative.
You know, I just
I say that's not a problem.
You know, I, you know, in my life
I have faced so much resistance
from doctors and nutritionists,
especially in the beginning.
Now fasting is out in the world more,
but even still, you know,
there's people who just, despise it,
and that's fine.
But I love having conversations
with people who disagree.
And I basically like to defer on
almost every point because I'm like, okay,
like you have like, everyone has
all of their opinions and perspectives,
and everybody can cite this in that study
and whatever.
And I do that.
We can learn from all kinds of studies
and perspectives.
But really, you know,
can we just bring things down
into our own personal life
and see what our experience is?
And, and I just tell people,
what is your experience been are you doing
all of the other things?
Are you moving
your body in the healthiest ways
and eating the healthiest food and getting
good sleep and managing your stress?
And like,
do you need more power? That's what I say.
I used, you know,
I would have people where I'm like,
they're like,
I'm doing all of these things, right.
This used to be my weight
management practice.
I've I've tried all the meds, you know,
and it's like it's like
I've done the exercises, I've bought
the special foods and the supplements.
I was like,
I'm trying to do everything I can.
It's like, like, what else is
there? And I used to never know.
I'd be like, I guess you're stuck.
You know, I just, I didn't know.
I was like, oh, so if
what I say to anybody
to say, are you at the end of the line,
have you tried all the things you know,
then at that point, see,
now there's less to argue
about as like follow
any person's perspective.
And if you get the results that you want,
you never lean into it just fine, okay.
But when we find ourselves at the end
of the line and we are strung out and,
and everything is at a space or so,
I just don't think I can do anything else.
To me, this is where fasting meets you,
because all of a sudden we're here
and it's just like,
this is what the space is.
There's nothing else to do.
It's like we just sit here in the space
and we let the body
exist and release the energy.
That's what I'll be doing today.
I got meetings and appointments
with people.
I'm going to keep the coffee going.
Fasting space.
We're monitoring the blood sugar.
I will upload it into the video,
which I'm excited to share with you.
We'll see if I get it done by Friday.
So many things I'm testing out, but,
We'll see.
Beautiful to share this space with you.
Hope you have a great day
and I will see you back here soon.
Be well everybody.
