Hello and welcome to the Transfer News Podcast. I'm Archer, and if you're listening to this on Saturday, December twenty-seventh, I hope you had a lovely Boxing Day watching all that football. Now, let's get into the transfer stories that are heating up as we approach the January window.
Starting with Crystal Palace, and it seems Marc Guehi's future remains one of the most intriguing sagas this winter. Barcelona have reportedly cooled their interest in the England international defender, which might come as a relief to Oliver Glasner. However, that doesn't mean Guehi will be staying put for long, as Manchester City are targeting the twenty-five year old for a summer move, and Bayern Munich are planning talks with him as well. It's shaping up to be quite the bidding war when the time comes, and Guehi certainly shouldn't rush any decision with this many suitors circling.
Staying with defenders, Bournemouth's Marcos Senesi is attracting attention from La Liga, with two Spanish clubs reportedly battling for his signature. The Argentine has been solid for Andoni Iraola's side, so it'll be interesting to see if Bournemouth entertain offers.
Now, the big Manchester United news. Conor Gallagher could be heading to Old Trafford on loan, which would be a fascinating move considering his situation at Chelsea under Enzo Maresca. United are also plotting a move for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo in January, though some pundits are questioning whether he's the right fit for what Ruben Amorim needs. Speaking of Semenyo, the Ghanaian forward is in high demand, with five clubs reportedly chasing him, but he apparently prefers a move to Liverpool if given the choice. Arne Slot could certainly use another attacking option as the Reds push for the title.
The Kobbie Mainoo situation at United is developing into quite the story. Reports suggest the young midfielder wants to leave Old Trafford, with several clubs interested in a January loan move. However, United could block any potential move, which makes sense given his talent and potential importance to Amorim's plans. The manager himself has said United have to be certain about players before signing them, showing a careful approach to recruitment.
Joshua Zirkzee's potential move to Roma has hit a deadlock, which complicates United's attacking options further. Meanwhile, PSG are considering a swap deal involving Marcus Rashford, which would be a seismic move if it happens.
West Ham are certainly busy in the market. Nuno Espirito Santo's side are eyeing Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen for January, and they're also monitoring Norwich City's Josh Sargent and Middlesbrough's Hayden Clayton. It's clear the Hammers want to strengthen their attacking options this winter.
Crystal Palace are looking at Tottenham's Brennan Johnson, which would be an ambitious move. Oliver Glasner clearly wants to add quality to his squad, and Johnson would certainly provide that. Palace may also consider bids for Jean-Philippe Mateta, though losing him would be a blow given his importance to the team.
The Mohamed Salah to Saudi Arabia story continues to simmer. The Egyptian remains the top priority for the Saudi league, with Al Hilal preparing a bid. Reports suggest Salah could still make the move, even as he continues to shine for Liverpool. It's a situation that Arne Slot will be monitoring very carefully as the window approaches.
A Premier League pair are eyeing Sporting's Ousmane Diomande, the talented young defender who has impressed in Portugal. With two clubs interested, it could become a competitive chase.
Finally, Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford reportedly wants to leave the club, presumably for regular first-team football. At twenty-two years old, he needs game time to develop, and sitting behind Ederson isn't helping his progression.
Regis Le Bris has confirmed that Arthur Masuaku could leave Sunderland in January, giving us some concrete news from the Championship side.
So there we have it, plenty of movement expected in January with some massive names potentially on the move. Guehi's future, Salah's Saudi links, and Manchester United's multiple pursuits will dominate the headlines.
