One Gospel Minute

Hosea's wife, Gomer, mirrored Israel's unfaithfulness to God. They pursued idolatry and false teachers for selfish reasons. Jesus noted the church at Ephesus also abandoned their first love. The church, as Christ's bride, should love God purely and follow His word. The Gospel invites us to live a better life. Read it, love it, live it.

David Hill: The Old Testament prophet Hosea's life patterned the spiritual life of Israel. David Hill with a Gospel Minute. His wife, Gomer, was unfaithful to him, just as Israel was to God. Hosea brought the charge of God to Israel: "They had loved for reward" (Hosea 9:1). What had they done? They prostituted themselves with false teachers and idolatry. Gomer had done the same to Hosea. Why? They may have never ever truly loved. They wanted their proverbial cake and eat it too! They were selfish—infinity always is—and they desired acceptance. Jesus said the church at Ephesus had "left their first love" (Revelation 2:4), just as Israel long ago left God to be like those around them. The church, the bride of Christ, loves God in purity. Christians act only on the authority of God's Word (Colossians 3:17) and are noted for speaking and practicing the same things, not perverted by seeking worldly acceptance. The Gospel calls one to a better life! Read it, love it, live it. That's the Gospel. Thank you for listening to One Gospel Minute.
