Full show transcript:
I don't really want to say it out loud, but I'm gonna say it out loud. There is an increasing signal for a cold early season snowstorm.
Why through parts of Canada, Montana, and Central Idaho. No. That's right. And into Wyoming as well. So we're talking about like uh snow levels could fall to around 7,000 feet in parts of the region and up to a foot of snow possible in uh mountain ranges in the northwest Montana area. Look at my face. Yeah, I know.
I know. The sawtooth, the bitter roots, the Tetons, these are all among the areas that could receive up to a foot of snow this weekend. Look at my face.
I know, but at least it's up in the mountains. Okay. I guess. I do still have some mountain uh stuff that I want to do. I still have some camping I want to do. I still have some hikes I want to do. I know.
Um, and I love hiking in the fall, so hopefully, my hope is that this is just like a hey, we're gonna get some snow, maybe up to a foot in some of the mountains in Montana, which is fine. I'm not headed there. Okay. I know we sure could use it. Sure could use the moisture. Uh but you know, if you're planning on hiking, checking in some fall colors and stuff in some of those upper elevation areas. First of all, I was up there in the Teton area. We didn't see much of the color change at all. It's really early. It's still early September.
I mean, but there were some that were changing.
There were like two aspen trees that had like a moisture issue that it turned a little bit brown. Otherwise, it was still very green.
What I know is that we haven't taken family photos in a really long time. Okay. A couple of years at least.
Do you like the fall foliage ones? Because we've done them like in the backyard, we've done them downtown. Are you wanting the fall foliage ones?
We kind of do. And I know our daughter does because she keeps talking about it all the time. She's like, we gotta go take pictures before the leaves change because we've missed them in years past. We're a little too late to the fall foliage game.
I see. Well, we're we're early this year, so we can keep our eye on it a little bit closer, and then we can go leaf peeping. Okay, and then uh we can you know grab some of those fall colors.
Uh, I have a couple of places I like to go, but there's also places that I haven't been that would be fun to go. So sure. let's make it happen. Okay, let's do it. All right. Uh start today's show then. Let's do it. Let's talk about an idiom. How's it go? Another day. Another dollar. Ah, you did it. I didn't know what you might have come up with. But yep, another day, another dollar.
You think that I always get idioms wrong, but I think I just make them sound better.
You make them make less sense. No. You say that. Yeah.
Make them make more sense. Another day, another dog. Buckaroo. Another day, another buckaroo. No.
That doesn't even make sense at all. Yeah, it does. No. Anyway, why did you? I just, it's a it's a common phrase that means you're back at work for another routine day to earn your daily pay. Great. Another day, another dollar.
Another dollar. That's right. That's really all I just had to say. I I just wanted to make sure that you knew the idiom, but also that's kind of how I was rolling into the show this morning. I was like, oh man. Another day, another dollar around here. You know. Mm-hmm. I get what you're saying.
I'm it's only day two of this week. Don't talk about it.
It's day two, but it's day three. I understand. Yeah. But I am pooped. Are you? Yes. We'll get it together, man. I'm trying. Wake it up.
I'm working on it. Yeah, what are you doing?
To wake it up and get it going. Because I haven't seen a lot of like big action. Am I missing some steps?
What would you propose that I do? I don't know. Jumping jacks? No.
Uh yoga stretches. Yeah, I could do some of that.
I have my yoga mat over there. It hasn't been touched in a couple of weeks. You want to weeks? I'm sorry.
But also, it hasn't been touched so long. You pointed that it was over there, and it's not. Yes, it is. No, it's over here. I pointed there. That's where I pointed.
Yourself. I've touched mine more than you've touched your yoga mat. So I had mine out just the other day. Give me a look. To clean. You're awfully judgy this morning.
Another day, another judgment. Yeah, that's you. Yeah.
Couple weeks, you say to me. At least.
Drew, I haven't seen you in here stretching.
No, you were giving me lots of stretching exercises the other day, though. Like I was gonna do them.
Yeah. I just thought they I'd be helpful. My algorithm was feeding me all this morning stretch stuff. And I went, you should have these. These are for you. I don't know why I'm getting them.
Do you ever get in moods and modes of your life where you're like, yeah, I'm gonna do this every day. And I did yoga every day.
Yeah, I threw the gym bag into the truck yesterday, like I had some intention to go in there.
I was gonna go to the gym yesterday. Yeah. And then somebody said to me, Do you want to go eat ice cream on the deck? And I said, Yep. Yeah. How was that? Awesome.
We finished the ice cream.
So now we have to do it. Now that's not an excuse. No.
We gotta remove the barriers.
Listen, Josh, this is the time of my life where my muscle starts to deteriorate.
So I've got I've got to. Another day, another muscle. I gotta get there. I gotta start. I gotta start.
All right. Well no time like right now. The present. No day but today.
That's right. It's a gift. That's why they call it that. Oh, get out. All right. Here's some good news for you. And remember that it is called called good news as I tell you this story. There was a rock climber in North Carolina named Jacob Gregory, and he got himself into a bit of trouble. Uh he was climbing the short short off mountain. Uh he fell 20 feet into a remote gorge and was dealing with some internal bleeding from the fall. Now he's remote. He's out in the mountain.
Why did he go alone?
I don't know the answer to that. I do know that a radio call went out to emergency crews that were down below, and a volunteer EMT named Will Soper jumped into action. He sprinted one and a half miles up the steep 1,000 foot elevation climb while hauling bags of blood for a life-saving transfusion. So we went on a three-mile hike. That was the same distance that we went.
He he ran that. Uh but it also had a thousand foot elevation gain over that mile and a half, which we did not have. So he was running straight up a hill.
He hauled that heavy gear up the mountain. He didn't take a single break. He reached the remote spot in 31 minutes. Holy moly. Unreal, this guy.
Yeah, volunteer EMT. Uh he said that uh, you know, well, I'll tell you what he said here in a second. He successfully delivered the buddy blood, he helped stabilize Jacob. Uh, and then Jacob was airlifted to a hospital for further care, of course, right?
Uh Will was relieved that Jacob had the chance to rebound from his injuries and also hopes that his invent his adventure inspires others. Here's what he had to say. He said, Look, I am an ordinary person asked to do an extraordinary task. Many people could have done this in a similar or faster time, and so I urge them to consider this a call to action. If you hear this story and think I want to help, contact your local rescue squad at search and rescue team and see if they can use you. That's an amazing message, uh, which I think is really cool from Will.
Um, again, who is a volunteer EMT who was like, I was there that day, and this guy needed blood, and I ran. That's amazing. Yeah, pretty cool. So uh anyway, it seems like Jacob's doing well, at least according to the story. Um, and uh and way to go, Will. I mean, unreal.
We saw a rock climber on our three mile lock, but he looked like he was alone, which always makes me just a little bit nervous.
It was a small kind of bouldery thing. I I mean that that hill itself was 20 feet, the the face rock face that uh that they were climbing uh was only twenty feet.
Yeah, it still looked a little bit dangerous. I'm just saying. It looked fun. Take a buddy.
I mean, it'd be nice if you had a buddy. Sometimes your hobbies you don't have buddies for.
Oh Are you feeling sad? No. Oh. No, not at all. Josh needs a fishing buddy.
No, I just need to go fishing. That's all. Uh anyway, that is good news. So I've had this theory running for about five years, maybe six years. And my theory is that uh during the time of COVID, a lot of factories and places that uh manufacture uh like clothes and stuff shut down. I mean, everything did for months and months and months. And so my theory is that because people still need clothes, somewhere in the world, there are is giant warehouses that they took all the clothes from each generation that just didn't sell, and then all of these clothes just got stored away in giant crates uh for many, many, many years.
Right. And now some 30 years later, we have all of these clothes that are straight from the 90s. You look at what the kids are wearing in high school, and you go, I've already lived through this 30 years ago.
This is this is the same thing. I should have kept all my stuff, yeah, because that's what's back in style, and it's just a revolving door of stuff. Right, but there are brand names that disappeared completely. Union Bay that have completely come back, Delias, J. Crew, Juicy Couture, Espirit, or a spirit, uh, K Swiss. Ah, yeah. All of these brands are like in uh huge demand suddenly. Uh so all of this fashion now, Delias you mentioned was like a catalog only.
You could only get Dilias from the catalog. Yeah, it's on the rack now. I know.
Because they finally got to that part of the warehouse, and they went, oh, here's all this. Bring all this back. But catalog isn't gonna be a thing, and people are shopping in the malls and in the stores, so let's slap this stuff on hooks and let's sell it.
Let's slap this stuff on hooks.
Yeah, that's what they're doing. I'm just I feel so strongly that we we hit a down slope in production, and they went, we've got warehouses full of stuff from the 90s that we didn't sell.
And that's fine in a way because clothing is like one of the things that is the most manufactured thing, and it's like the most thing that's in I'm speaking very well this morning. But it's like the most item. It's the most item. And like the in the dumpsters. Do you know what I'm trying to say? Say it better.
I don't know what you're trying to say. I'll let you try to work that out. Well, I'll I'll tell you that experts are saying that it's nostalgia driving the trend among Gen Z who were not around in the 90s and early 2000s. Now, I think that uh a lot of things uh are are kind of going cycles.
I mean, bell bottoms cycled back, like there's always a thing that you see kind of a resurgence um in fashion. Yeah, so I don't think it's far-fetched, but I'm more sensitive to it because I recognize all of it. And maybe that's because I'm old. Okay. And I've seen all of this before.
It's called fast fashion. Okay. And it is the fastest growing waste streams.
I see. Because because people disregard it so quickly.
Every second, the equivalent of one dump truck is filled with clothing that is sent to a landfill. Wow. Every second. That's crazy. I know.
That's a lot of uh that's a lot of waste. So you're saying that having these warehouses that have stored this stuff forever, as my theory states, and them bringing it out is good because it's not ending up in the landfill. They're now selling the stuff that they sat and bought crates for.
It's gonna end up in the landfill anyway, is what I'm saying. Eventual. Yeah. Yeah. And if they don't sell it, they'll probably just throw it to the landfill. Gotcha. I don't know.
It is interesting though, because a lot of people our age are calling what's going on a borrowed nostalgia as these younger people romanticize an era that they never experienced. The era that we live through. The 90s era is interesting. Yeah, especially especially the nineties, yeah.
Because it was the best one. Yeah, Gen Z is really like uh they've they've seen pictures and video of their parents and uh and the movies and because they don't they don't do stuff like that anymore. Like there aren't high school centric movies like there were in the I mean, you you could argue from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, there was a lot of life being captured on film in the in that time.
And you just don't see that same kind of stuff. So anyway, my theory is that they all uh unpack these boxes and just put new tags on them and bring it back and just redistribute, and now they're making all the money on the stuff they've been sitting on for 30 years, but what do I know? I don't I'm not in the industry.
You're not in the fashion industry to tell us for real.
But it sure feels that way because I feel like every when I go to the store, I go, I've seen all of this before. Same. All of it.
I had some of this before. Yeah. Not just seen it, but I've worn some of this before. That's very true. I mean, crazy. It's crazy. Growing up, my maiden name started with L. Yeah. And so I wasn't in the back of the line when you would have to line up alphabetically. I would be in the middle.
That's right. Which wasn't a terrible place to be, but even when the teacher would say, okay, we're gonna do a switcheroo and have the Zs line up first today. The middle's still in the middle. Yeah, I know. Yeah. Oh, I'm aware. So I was always just in the middle, always. And I was like, oi. There's a better way to do that. What is it?
There's a better way to do that by taking like uh there's 26 letters, which is 13, right? Yeah. And turn the two thirteens around. What? Oh. Did I go too far? Yeah. So what's the 13th letter? M. Okay. So you take A through M and you have the M's in the front and then the A's in the middle, and you take the N through Zs and you flip them. Okay. Yeah, do you? So you take the two thirteens and flip them.
Yeah, because I never got to be the line leader. We never got to be saying. Front.
Now, my but your maiden name is an L. My pre-radio name is a B.
Your pre-radio name. That's right. Your real name begins with a B. Right.
And so uh my pre-radio name that I grew up with in school put me way further ahead in the line.
Uh Emory just had picture day. Yeah. And she said we got to go first because my name was a B. And I went. You're welcome. I did that for you. She goes, what do you mean? It's dad's name. I go, yeah, I know I married it. It I married that B name. Now listen, when we were getting married, that did not cross my mind once. But now it does. Once I had kids, I was like
They're gonna be in the front of the line.
Good job, kids. I did that for you. You're welcome. It's one extra cool thing I did for them. Gave them a B.
I mean, did you or did I do it? No, I did it. I think it comes from my lineage.
I know, but uh You abandon your lineage.
Yeah, I did. Which to be fair, your mom's maiden name was an R. So she climbed the ladder too.
That's true.
She's so look at the progression.
We all did. I'm just trying to think of my family. Yeah. My sister. Moved up one.
She went from an L to a K. Yeah, but then go far.
My sister-in-law who married my brother, she was an S. She went from an S to an L. What a what a climb. Look at that. Gotta do what we can.
Get closer to the front of the line. They line us up alphabetically ever in adult life. I'm gonna be in the front. It's not about adults. It's about your kids. I'm gonna get lunch before everybody else.
They don't really line people up alphabetically after.
No, I like to line people up alphabetically by height. And it really confuses them, as it just did to you. All right, everybody line up alphabetically by height. And they go, What? I go, yep.
When was the last time you lined people up? Oh, I don't know. I line people up all the time. Oh, yeah? Yeah. Do you? Don't you? Sure don't.
Oh, we should have everybody single file at like a meeting. We should. All right, everybody line up alphabetically. Or you do that thing like line up by your birthday month. Ugh. Yuck. To get to know you.
Yeah, without talking to each other.
That's probably the last time I had to line up by anything was at a team building thing. And they're like, we need everybody to get to know each other, so we're gonna have you line up by birthday month.
But you have to do it in a weird roundabout way, and you have to stand on this log. Right. And you can't talk. Yeah. So you're just holding up numbers.
I'm a I'm a two. Team building. That is absolutely the last time I lined up as an adult. But we should get everybody to line up today and just be like, hey, we're lining up and see how many people, one, ask questions and two, do it. Do it.
I bet we get a whole bunch of people like just leave. I'm not lining up. Thanks. You posted a video last night from the garden uh asking if we wanted to kiss under the pumpkin, which by the way is not a thing. And I looked it up this morning. No, I'm making it a thing.
No, I know. I wanted to see like if it if there was like uh some sort of fall solstice kind of uh celebration or something. The only thing I could find was uh people holding up a pumpkin and having a kiss behind it so the camera can't see. Oh which was kind of cheeky, but uh but that was kind of the only thing that I saw was people uh kissing behind a pumpkin.
Now, when you started your garden, the very first thing you wanted was a squash arch. And so you got your that was the one of the very first things you did, and you had this idea in your head of you were gonna have this arch and the squash were gonna come up over the like the vines were gonna come up over the arch and it was gonna be this perfect little uh little arch that was covered with vines, yeah, and it was gonna lead into your greenhouse. Yep. And you succeeded. Yeah, it looks great.
Yeah, it's really fun because on one side I have too much squash and pumpkins, and on the other side, I have a whole bunch of uh like pickling cucumbers, my cucumber bush, and the uh you know, though those vines, and then I transplanted a cherry tomato that has started trellising up that thing as well, and that tomato is huge.
It is huge, it's giant, but your it's squash arch is so pretty.
So then I found out I've been doing a little bit of research. You the the pumpkin that's hanging like right dead center. I keep bumping my head on it, which I'm like, come on, man. Uh you asked a question uh about whether it's a little vine was gonna be able to support it hanging through there. Yeah. So I've found out that people uh do uh hammocks. So I've got to get just some I'll use like that bird netting stuff. I'll just cut a section of that with some string and tie it to it so that it doesn't have to have bear its full weight off that
stem because I think gravity is gonna to... Yeah. pull that puppy down.
Because it's already heavy, it is it's a full pumpkin.
I just think it's hilarious because it's right smack in the middle of the walkway, just hanging down from the arch.
Like and it keeps getting bigger and lower, and I bonk my head on it. Uh, but that's exciting. I think it's really fun. It turned out really well. I did too much squash on the one side. So I've gotta I I think the plan for next year is to squash both sides, and I'm gonna move my cucumbers elsewhere. Okay. That's kind of my plan. Okay. Yeah.
Again, I've done nothing with a garden but uh eat the fruit and vegetables that come off of it. You grew the perfect raspberry yesterday.
Uh it was so cool. It was so big. I went, this thing is a monster.
I wanted to eat it, but look at this. You didn't? No. I mean, I will today. I let it kind of sit for a day because I didn't want to just automatically go, huh? That's the fresh one.
Anyway, kind of uh kind of fun having a squash arch.
I I think we still need to kiss under that pumpkin as like uh good luck to fall. Okay. It's gonna be our new fall tradition. Okay. That's fine.
Our new fall tradition is kissing under a pumpkin. Kiss under the squash arch. Oh. You see? I do. It just happens to have a pumpkin right in the middle. Yeah. Yeah. And that's the second biggest pumpkin. That other pumpkin's getting really big. I'm excited about that. Here's the thing. I don't have to buy pumpkins.
How many pumpkins you do? You have four.
I I have three coming up right now. Like the other one's a real small one. It's got it's got a lot of work to do to catch up. But I have at least three, and then I have all those little white decorative ones. Uh, those are fun.
Those are uh I'm excited. Yeah. I'm excited.
I am bummed out. I put I planted a bunch of like crookneck gourds, and I haven't seen any of those. Uh-huh. And I haven't seen uh any of the acorn squash. Oh, I love acorn squash. Right. I've got a second butternut squash.
You pulled all your carrots yesterday. Yep. You had some pretty good sized ones, and then there was a bunch that you were just weren't gonna throw away, and I went.
They're little like straight straw-looking things.
It's still a good that's a good size carrot.
You dug them out of my compost pile, and you're like, These are good. I'm gonna eat this. Okay, fine. This is nice carrot.
It's small, but it's still good. Ugh. It's good as gold, baby.
Okay. No, I uh I I've you learn stuff every year, and I learned that I planted my carrots too close together. Uh, and so I need to work on my spacing for my carrot seeds because like having a little bit more space, they would have had time to get a little bit fatter. And then the other thing is that I've noticed is that uh because I basically wiped out that entire garden bed uh yesterday. Do you see how much dirt is gone?
Mm-mm. Oh, it's down like it like three inches of dirt has just settled compressed or whatever. Um, and so I gotta top off all of the beds, which is uh not you know not atypical. That's a normal thing that I would have to do, but it's decent down for one year. I went decent down.
Yeah, it's down pretty decent amount. So I need to throw a bunch more dirt in there. And then I want to replant some stuff.
I'm just trying to figure out if I want to commit to like winter carrots because I can cover the bed and I can grow carrots like into November probably. Okay. And they'll be sweeter, I heard. Oh yeah. A sweet winter carrot.
Because the cold does different things with sugars than carbs, and so they aren't as bitter, they'll be sweeter. Yeah. Interesting, isn't it? Sure. Starches, not carbs, starches. Sure is. Want to hear more about what I learned on YouTube?
If there's one thing that you should know about me, it's probably that I can make any situation awkward. Yeah? Yeah. You have an example? Yes. Yes, I do. Um, I went to have my annual mammogram last week. That was last week, yeah.
Yep. Um which you said was was great. It was fine.
And everything's cool. Yeah, I got my results for back. listen, ladies, early detection is key, as they say.
October's coming up. I was in there for a maximum of 10 minutes. That's great. It was an in and out. It's an in and out procedure. Is it awkward? Yes.
Do I enjoy it? No. Is it necessary? 100%. Yeah. And it's by all accounts painless. Yeah. You go in, you have to wipe off your deodorant because the aluminum in your deodorant can mimic.
Ah, it can it can show up on the reading.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, good. So you they give you these wipes, you wipe off your deodorant. Yeah. And now they supply deodorant in there for you. So there was a spray deodorant in there when you're done. Because that's often the problem I have is I'm like, well, now I have to go back to work smelling.
Anyway. How did you like the spray deodorant?
I don't like it, but it was it was what was there, and so I just used it. Okay.
Like you wouldn't buy that as your regular deodorant? No.
No, I wouldn't. But that's the cleanliest way that they can do it.
Well, of course. No, I get it. not going to have like a community A roll on a stick.
Yeah.
Like, go ahead and Yeah, no. They're not gonna do that. No. So I I appreciate that they had an option that was that was available. That's nice.
It is. It is very nice.
I just didn't know if you wanted to switch. No, I'm okay. Yeah. I'm okay. What about that roll on? Let's talk about that just real brief. Because you got the stick.
Oh, they're roll on the space.
And then you have to scrape. Then you got that roll on with the ball on it.
Do they still make that kind? I don't know. I don't either. That was something else. That's gross. It's wet. Yes. So then you have to like
air out your armpits while you're waiting for it to dry. You blow on it a little bit. Is that right? Yeah. Hurry up and dry. Yeah, I don't know about the roll on. No. I'm a I'm a deodorant, not anti-perspirant guy.
Same. And they've really put out a lot of men's options that are aluminum-free deodorant. I feel bad because most of the women's sticks are still antiperspirant. I have to dig. You gotta get rid of that aluminum, folks. Okay.
Here's here's the awkward moment. Ready? Because I'm feeling a little uncomfortable and I'm trying to make some jokes. She was not having any of my jokes. Lovely, lovely technician. Lovely wonderful woman. Helped with my mammogram. Great. No complaints. She did not enjoy my sense of humor. Oh. How do you know?
Were were you the talk of the office after you left?
I'm unsure. But what I do know is I I made a couple of jokes and th there was silence afterward. And so I just sat like, okay. Maybe she didn't hear you. But it's possible.
Say the jokes again until they laugh. That's what I do.
Just to go, hey, did you hear my joke? She just said, I think one of the things she had asked was, Are you ready to do this today? And I go, or she said, How are you today? And I go, nowhere I'd rather be. Right.
Nowhere I'd rather be. That's a good line. Silence. Yeah. And I went, okay.
It is it. Okay. And I'm not expecting you to double over in fits of laughter, but you could have maybe just a little bit.
Are there ever times that you say something and expect people to double over in laughter? Has there been a time where you're like, your laugh wasn't as big as I'd hoped? I really thought you were going to be on the floor and chuckles. Yeah. You do. Yeah. Wow.
All right.
So she didn't respond to your jokes.
No, and that's okay. I feel I feel like you're a little upset about it. Well.
Maybe she'd already heard that one earlier.
It kind of made everything just a tinge more awkward. Yeah. Because then she was like, I'm not, I'm not here for your jokes, lady. I'd just want to get this over with too.
I'm not having a great time doing this either. Yeah. And I'm like, okay, I get it. I get you. It's probably uncomfortable for you too. I understand. I'd see you. Do you do you ever be like let's just make this less awkward?
You go first.
You don't ever do that? No, but I should. Like I'll push the button. What I hate the most is just the awkward. There's and men will never understand this. But there's you have to stand so awkwardly, and you kind of have to hug the machine a little bit. Oh, you have to put your arm around it while you're positioned.
It's there a better way. I mean, obviously, this is what they've come up with as the best way so far, but do you have in your head like, what if they did it this way?
Yeah, if we could just like maybe lay down in any kind of way. Oh. There's gotta be a better way.
Anytime you're like, if I could just lay down. Yeah. Is there a way I could sleep through this? Yeah. You got like a like a way I could lay down.
I mean, let's think about that for a second. It's a vertical machine. It's a vertical machine. What if it was like a like a modified like uh like masseuse table where you can lay down?
That's what I'm talking about on your front down, and they could measure it that way, or not, you know, do their imaging that way. Great idea. That seems better. Yeah. You you know, let gravity help.
Yeah, but science doesn't care about women, so they won't do any upgrades. That got real deep. I didn't want to walk into that one. Well, you did.
We can't have pockets no new no new woman science. No, they don't care about women. They should. They really should. Let's get it together. Let's find a way to make that more comfortable. Anyway, let's make that horizontal.
Yearly mammogram. Check. Well, good for you. Now I have a whole year before I have to go again.
October's a you know, a month away, but it is breast cancer awareness month in October, but there's no time like today. Book your appointment. Get it done. Ten minutes important.
It really did take me 10 minutes. Yeah. Well, I'm glad you did it. Same.
And I'm glad it came back a okay. That's great news. A plus. Thumbs up. Thumbs up.
I asked you this question the other day and you didn't answer, so now I'm gonna ask you again. Oh, okay. If we switch lives for a day. Why are you rubbing your head? Go ahead. You love when I do this.
If we switched lives. Lives for a day. Okay.
What part of your life do you think I couldn't handle?
I feel like I answered this. What did you answer? Because I I feel like there's there is a depth to this question that we shouldn't go to. Let's keep it superficial. And keep it like task-oriented. Okay. And I think I said that there were like just things that uh that like chores or whatever that like the lawn mowing thing. Like you were like, I can mow the lawn, and I said then start the lawn mower. I feel like we had a a little bit of this conversation. You were like, I can't start the lawn mower. I can't pull the thing hard enough.
I I'm like talking about your everyday like your job here. Is there any part of this day that uh you don't think I could?
And then we talked about like you running the board, and you were like, uh like, yeah, I could probably learn how to run the board.
Absolutely could learn how to do that. I know you could. I don't think there's any part of your life that I I'd be like, I can't handle this. Right. I don't. I think if I had to do it. On the surface level. And that's deep.
I don't really think we should. Why? Because I think that just in general, there are things that humans deal with. I think there are things that men and women deal with on different levels in just an existence that the other side would struggle with because it's just it doesn't make sense. It's uh it's an unfamiliar, uncomfortable thing. And the the deeper we dive into that, the worse this whole conversation is going to be.
So I don't think we should do that. That's why I said let's keep it surface level superficial and try to think of those kinds of things. Like I I have no problem with like talking to people. Like I think I could figure out softwares pretty quick.
My job is.
Yeah, I'm just trying to think. Like customer service stuff, fine, answering phones, directing questions. Uh like, sure. I think I could handle a lot of that stuff. I think you could learn every single thing that I do.
Yeah. Like you could schedule the music, you could write the and produce all the stuff that goes in between the music. You could build playlists, you could do all the stuff. There's no thing that I do that someone else could not do. Right. So I, you know, on the surface level, you could do anything. And I feel the same. I feel like there are there things you think I couldn't handle? No. I don't.
I think that both sides, I think you it would just be handled differently. It would the task be completed? Yes, just in a different manner. Of course. Like you wouldn't handle it the way that I would handle things, and vice versa. Right. Let's go deep. No. No. I don't think we should. I want to. Nah.
You don't want to have to deal with emotions that you can't display because of judgment. You don't want to deal with that. And that's barely subsurface. Chashi. No, this is this is humanity, not me.
No, no, no, no. I know, I get it. But maybe. Nah. I said we're not. We scratched a little bit of
that And and there likewise are things on your side that I go, I don't want to have to deal with that. I don't want to have to deal with the constant pressure of like just I mean, judgment's a huge thing. Woman-to-woman judgment stuff, crazy. Yeah. Take over the world.
I don't want to. That's too much responsibility.
Team up and take over the world.
Same up. Please. Like all of you collectively go for it. Yeah, yeah. Please. Women. That's what I'm saying. Let's stop.
I'm tired of it. You go. You have it. It's it's broken. But you can fix it. We can fix it. I know that.
Okay. So you're saying we could swap lives for a day. I think we could.
It would be uncomfortable.
It would be I think the if we did be hard. If we did swap lives and I had to be you and you had to be me, Emery would have real hard time with you being me. She already does. I think she'd be like, no, no, no, no, no. I need some more emotion from you. You're not you're giving off the wrong vibes, dad. Right.
And then she'd be like, also my car's broken. And you'd go, oh no.
Yeah, be like, ah, crud. Yeah.
I gotta be the fixer.
Where do I keep that brain?
I gotta be the emotional one, and you gotta be the fixer. Now we got that to deal with.
Now we got a real situation. Right. Forget about emotions. We got a car problem.
Yeah, but also she's crying. And now what? Figure it out. Yeah. You can do it. You need a snack Does your belly hurt?
Always start with that. Always with that. need a refreshment? Start there.
And so that's it. I'll just fix everything based on the way I would fix it. See, that's not that's not gonna do it. It's the wrong thing. I'm like, no, this is broken. I gotta fix this. And you're you're over here like there's no fixing it.
No, that's it. It's just part of being a lady. We Just sit here and cry for a minute.
Are you broken? No. Is it her? Is some do you need a band-aid? What is it? It's gonna that's gonna be tough.
Okay, we were having a conversation a couple of days ago, and you're gonna have to explain this better than I can because you're the one who said it. But you said that there are times when I get upset that nobody is cleaning the house, and then I kind of snap, and then I go, Everybody get in here right now. Yeah.
And you this has happened like only a couple of times when you were you were very upset because you you were in uh it's a Saturday and I'm in a cleaning mode, and this happens.
Everyone has to be in a cleaning.
That's right. And and you were you were upset and called the whole family into the living room, and you were like, I am cleaning and no one else is doing their share around here, and we all need to be cleaning, and we all were like doing our own thing, which wasn't okay because it wasn't what you were in the mode of, which was cleaning at the time. And so you're like, we need to get this place in shape. And everybody was like, okay, I guess we're gonna clean now.
It wasn't like a hey guys, like let's let's all chip in. I want to get the house cleaned up. It was like you had reached a point where I've been slamming cupboards around and no one came in to notice that stuff was going on and to chip in, and now I'm upset about it. It just escalated very quickly.
Yeah, yeah. And that only has happened one time, but it's something that the family mocks now because it was such a like a bizarre moment in time because it was very out of character. It's not something that you often do where you were like, no, whatever you're doing, stop it and come clean now.
I wanna I what I wanted looking back now. I realized that that was all right. the Not the best way to approach it. Right. But what I wanted was to clean, and I wanted everybody to pitch in. No, we we know telling everybody that I wanted them to do.
Yeah, well, that wasn't never gonna happen.
So what I recognize now is that next time I'm gonna say, hey, here's my expectation for this song. That also was like three plus years ago.
Like, this is not like something that just happened or anything. This is an old thing that the kids now make fun of because they're like, everyone in the living room, we're gonna clean. And we go, what was that? Because it was so out of character. It was very strange. It was over the top. Yeah, but we went okay.
I guess whatever else we had going on doesn't matter because mom wants to clean, so we're all gonna clean now. Okie doke. But it's so it's fun because it is I think there are times where you still like will get into like uh I want to get this done and everybody else is doing this with me because that's the plan. And uh, and you know, okay. It would be nice if there was regular maintenance.
If there maintenance was a better plan.
Yeah, like if there was an ongoing structure uh that we just have not been really good at establishing in the house.
No, and I kind of regret that now that our kids are a little bit older. I'm sad that we didn't I mean they had chores and different things, but it wasn't like uh
Yeah, I mean we had chore charts with magnets, and I mean we've yeah, there's like been a shared workload in the house.
But it hasn't been like a consistent, like here's what's expected of you here. Like I don't know. No, I'm with sometimes I regret that I didn't have more of
a and I don't think it's too late either. I think now with the kids being older, they might understand a little bit better the why. Like, look, everybody's busy. We've got school, we've got jobs, there's a very limited amount of time after those things when we're home, yeah, and we don't want to spend all that time uh you know working on this stuff, and we want to have our weekends and we want to be able to like let's all chip in. And I think you could have that conversation now with them being older, and they would be more accepting of it and understanding than when you're trying to explain to a kid like and here's why you empty the dishwasher, and here's how you take out the garbage, and this you've got to do this, and I don't want to have to ask you every time to do this, so if you see it needs done, like that's a harder conversation.
Like, just do it. If you see that the dishwasher's full, don't just load your dishes in the sink, just empty the dishwasher. Right. Oh. See?
Now sit down and do that over dinner. How about over burgers tonight? That sounds nice. That does sound nice. Yeah. What a fun conversation. Can't wait. But it's better than everyone in the living room, we're cleaning. I'm frustrated. I'm the only one doing anything. And I've been slamming coverage for 35 minutes and no one noticed. Like, okay.
Meanwhile, everyone's like, no, we noticed.
No, we did. We were avoiding it because we thought you were mad. Like, and now you are mad, and now we don't want to be here. But okay, I'm guessing I'm cleaning now too. I picked up my feet when the vacuum went by.
That wasn't enough. You've seen this trend. Um, and and you you kind of feel like this is your life where you you're downstairs, you're in your craft room, you're doing your junk journal.
Or I'm quilting, which is typically it's typically listed as like an older woman activity.
Right. So if you were gonna have a playlist playing in the background, what's a quilting playlist?
I don't necessarily know what a quilting playlist is, but I know that's what I'm saying. Well, I'll tell you what it's not. My playlist does not match my quilting activity. No. Because sometimes I'll be quilting and do-do-do-do, and then my 90s gangster rap comes on.
Right. And I go, huh? You're singing along to like Missy Elliott while you're quilting. This this doesn't seem right. This feels off. Like I don't know what activity uh that kind of attitude sort of matches. The clerb. The clerk.
In the clerb. We all fans. Yeah. But it certainly doesn't match the quilt. Oh no.
You're making little houses and doing little cute stitches and oh look, I'm doing the geometry to get this thing all uh you know cool and makes it make it all cute. Yeah. And then a bunch of not matching music.
Okay. Yeah, you saw it tick-tac that said you're at the age where your playlist does not match your activities.
Right. What was she doing in the video?
Uh I think she was quilting.
Was she? Or sewing or something.
Yeah, and she had some, I think she had like a like a punk song on her something.
A bunch of like attitude. Yeah. Heavy, heavy metal while you're sewing on a button.
Yeah, who cares? Do what you do. Yeah, right. My playlist runs the gamut. So at any given time, I'm gonna have a really like slow kind of mellow song. And then all the way to the end. It is because I do like I do like a wide range of music. So it's gonna be like a really heavy gangster rap, because I do like that. I know you do.
It's it's a weird playlist to go through with you. Because you you're all over the place. I really am you have a huge, huge spectrum of music that you listen to. And uh, and that's good.
That's a it's nice to have a bunch of flavors. But boy, do you go all over the place and you're like, I just like to sing along to this one. Oh, and I love this country one. I'm gonna sing on to this old school uh 90s uh country.
And then uh boom, I'm right back into salt and pepper, and then here comes uh like a 2000s punk rock song, and and then I'm gonna listen to uh the new Bruno Mars, and then I'm gonna go listen to some old Nelly. I don't know. Yeah, you're all over the place.
Yeah, I am. The country is probably this the slimmest category. Sure. But I do have I think there's some Garth in there. You don't have Garth in there because he
doesn't stream get his music, but I do like Garth Brooks.
Right. I think there's a little bit of keep ebbing. I'm Keith Evan. Keith Ebbin. Good day. I'm from New Zealand.
He's Australian. I'm from Australia. Yeah, I'm Keith Ebbing. I'm Keith Evan. It's always funny when you hear him do an interview and you're like, oh, Keith Urban. Yeah, that guy. His songs are great. And he goes, uh good night. I'm Keith Evan. And you go, huh? What? Keith Irvin. Keith Evan. I'm Keith Evan. You go. That's not how we say it. You're Keith Urban. He's Urban.
what? Did you come here to die? No. Nah, I can't.
I mean yes today. Ah.
Our dog is a little bit of a crazy thing. And we've talked about her before. She is a Jack Russell. She is four. Yes. Four years old. We've had her for two years. Yeah. Does she need some training?
I honestly, I think we've had her for three years. I think she's five. I don't remember. I'm pretty sure. But uh are you asking if she needs training?
No, I'm saying she does need training. We just haven't had, you know, a chance to kind of sit down and figure that out.
I mean, and we're working on stuff at home to kind of get her still kind of acclimated to our family and how things work and the pace of life. And I think she's she's making improvements. She's still slowly. She is uh she is an obsessed little thing, which is the nature of the of the breed of the Jack Russell.
Uh and she gets fixated on one thing, and that's all she can think about until that thing is not the most important thing. Lights. Uh a light looking out the front window. She is the nosiest neighbor, I tell you, she knows every move going on in the whole neighborhood. She is consistently on watch all night.
She knows exactly what those squirrels are doing. She knows exactly what the neighbor cats are doing. She is on it.
There was a cat in the front yard yesterday. And she was watch out.
Now, she is also uh a little bit of a Frady cat. Like she is afraid of everything. She is afraid of her her reflection in the stove. Yes.
If if a new object is placed in a room, she is very cautious to get around it.
She doesn't like the vacuum, she's afraid of the vacuum. Um she is afraid of feet. She doesn't like feet. Um, but she really is afraid of thunder. And while we were camping over the weekend, there was a big thunderstorm, which I love. I love a good thunderstorm when we're camping. But the dog was pacing in our trailer. She was shaking.
She had a heavy breathing, which was something I noticed, which was out of the norm, but the thunder was super loud, but she was like labored panting. A lot of anxiety about the thunder, yeah.
And so I read what you could do online, and I followed all the instructions of what you could do to kind of help your dog. And I she came in and laid next to us in our bed. Right. And I cradled her like a baby. I'm not kidding when I say that. I cradled her.
You were co-sleeping with the dog. Like it was an infant.
I And I thought, this is gonna change everything. She's gonna remember that I cradled her like a baby, and that she was safe and warm and protected, and everything's gonna change. She's gonna magically be like, oh, this is a safe house.
Now she is a rescue dog. We don't know what her life was before us, but uh, it feels like there was some crazy things that happened in her early development years.
Yeah, because We got her at two.
Sometimes it feels like she had a lot of life before. Doesn't feel like she joined us, yeah. Safe and protected at our house. But we're like, hey, hey, hey.
She's got her own bed,
she's got blankets, she's got toys, she's got everything she could ever want. This dog is spoiled. She is and safe and protected, most of all. Absolutely. So I was like, she's gonna snap out of her crazy. This safe, this co-sleeping cradling baby situation, she's gonna snap out of it and she's gonna be like, oh, these guys are safe and protected. I'm gonna be totally normal now. It didn't happen.
No, the next morning she was back to being a ding bat. Like she's crazy. You go to take her outside to tie her to the tree so she can do her business and eat her breakfast while we're cooking and you know, all that stuff at camp. And she's barking at everything that goes by, and she's just back to being old Luna. Yeah. And you're like, dude.
And my feet got in her way, and she started to bite my feet, and I was like, do you remember what I did to you last night? I held you. I cradled you like a baby. Nope. She forgot everything. Just you wait, dog. Just you wait till the next thunderstorm.
Yeah, I'm gonna let you just deal with it yourself. I'm not gonna big thunder. Change her name to Big Thunder. Little tiny 15-pound big thunder. It was a nice thing you did for the dog. Sorry, she rewarded you by biting your feet. Ma'am, well.
No good deed goes unpunished. I guess so. Um, so we give my sister a lot of grief on this show. Because she's old. Mainly because she doesn't listen, and it's just an easy, it's an easy pass.
To say whatever you want about her because you you don't think she's gonna call you out on it.
Is that what you mean? I I know that my nephew listens, her son listens. And so he often relays things back to her. And so then she'll say, Were you talking about me on your show? And I'm like, I don't know. Maybe you should listen.
Then you'd find out. Right. So we went camping with them over the weekend, her and her husband. And you were giving her some grief yesterday because she went on her bike ride and and she didn't change her gears on her bike. And I also said that she
when we were riding her bike, I said, whose bike is that? Because it's either the wicked witch of the west or Pee Wee Herman, because it looks like a combination of the two bicycles. And she's very offended by that. She also said that she couldn't go fast because her tires were too skinny, which, if you know anything about bicycling, skinnier tires go faster.
Well, and it's your speed is all determined by you.
That is correct. Yeah, it is correct. But she is a one speed kind of lady. She's very uh she has found the things in life that she enjoys, and she has zero interest in trying new things. Correct. And she is, and we give her a lot of grief about that. Yep. But she's earned every bit of it, I think.
She said yesterday I got a text randomly. Hey, I'm listening to your show, and I do change the gears on my bike. Tell Josh that. So I wanted you to know.
I am so happy to know that. And then she guessed that makes a difference in my day.
Also, I'm not old. Right. She's really old. She is really old. She's not just old. Now listen, I she is seven years older than me, so I like to give her grief for that because I'm like, woof.
but the kids have caught on to it too now. And they they take it to a different level. Like Emory thought she was 80, and she's like, eighty. She's It's easily triggered.
I like to give her a hard time because when we were young, we were somewhere, and somebody told my mom. Your daughter, Dawn, is so beautiful. Like she is just gorgeous.
And then she said, and that Chantal, she is just a sweetheart. And I went, oh. I'll Forever. I'll forever be the sweet one. And I went, I'll show you.
And then I wasn't a sweetheart. So what? That's a long time ago. That was a long time ago. But I like to give her grief for that, even now, because I always go, Oh, here comes here comes Marsha. Oh everybody, watch out. Marsha's coming through. Make way for Marcia. Got it. Got it.
She she got a little uh bit of a green grass stain on one of her shoes. Oh. And was really upset about it. And I said, uh, it's gonna be okay, because it's just a shoe. And she's like, no, I have to wear these to work. And I said, Who's looking at your shoes at work? And she said, people I talk to. And I said, You're behind a counter. I don't think anyone can see your feet.
She goes, I have to walk around. No one cares about a little green grass stain on your shoe. There's not one person you're going to encounter in the next month that is going to say a word about it.
No, they will. But I kind of wish that I could put up a little sign outside that said, make sure you tell her that you see your green grass stain on her shoe. Tell her. Yeah.
We are mean. We are a little bit mean to my sister. I think she likes it though. Oh, do you? Yeah. Come on.
Because everybody loves a little bit of teasing.
If we didn't tease her, she wouldn't know what to do. Let's stop. Okay. And just be totally like normal. Normal. Like, yeah, not give her any kind of.
Let's be boring. Yeah, exactly. And let's just have boring conversation.
That's not gonna go over well. She's not gonna like that. She won't. Right, but that's why we would do it. See.
We wouldn't have fun with her. And then she'd be like, why aren't you guys having fun with me? Because you don't like it. Yeah.
We're not gonna tell you you're old anymore. Is that what you want? Right. Is that what you want? You want us to tell you you're young? Is that what you want?
Yeah, you want us to just tell you you look great like everybody else your whole life? Yeah, yeah. I won't. I won't do it. Uh would you rather this or that?
Would you rather live the E.T. adventure? Okay.
What is the ET adventure? The E.T. the movie. So you're you're saying what it would I like to be Elliot? Yes. In E.T. Correct. And have uh found the extraterrestrial and gone through all the stuff and then had the guys in the weird spacesuit show up with the tubes at my house.
Right. And you bike your way.
He turns all weird gray and Elliot! Elliot! And he's having a panic attack.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh man. What a scene that is. He's freaking out. That's a that is trauma. I tell you what. Okay, there's some have our kids seen that movie.
Uh years ago, I think. It's one of your favorites. I know that.
Well, it came out the year I was born. It's a great movie.
It is a great movie. So would you rather live the E.T. adventure? Yeah. So you're Elliot. Okay. Or live the Goonies adventure.
Which Goonie am I? Uh Chunk. No. No. I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna choose Chunk's adventure. Why? He did find a friend.
He gets to have a brother.
You're gonna live with me now. I'm gonna take care of you. Which
Um which character do you want to be? Mikey. I'm everybody wants to be Mikey. Okay, so you're Elliot or you're Mikey.
Data's got too much family pressure. You know? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I'm taking the Goonie adventure. I knew you were gonna say that. Of course I am. There's one eye, Willie, the treasure, the whole thing. That's awesome.
Okay, you'd rather find the treasure than find an alien. Is what you're saying. Elliot. Yeah. Okay.
I don't want to live through that trauma. They both have trauma. I know, but the fratelli's trauma is a little different. Okay. Alright All right. That was a good one. What are you picking?
Uh the Goonies. Yeah. And which Goonie are you? You goonie. Do I have to be a girl goonie or can I?
You can be any Google.
I'm gonna be uh Chunk. Yeah, actually. Rocky Road.
Get locked in the freezer with the dead guy. It's kind of fitting. And this one time in sixth grade.
I'll be the older brother. What's his name? The Broolin? Yeah. I don't remember. Oh no. What's his name? Just because I got some like sweatbands I need to use.
You just want to you want to ride a child's bicycle, is what you want to ride it really fast. Well being held to a convertible. Let's go. Yeah. His name is Brandon. That's right. Yep. You're gonna be branded. Nah, I'll be chunk. Chunk.
Everybody loves Chunk the most.
Love Chunk. Have our kids seen that movie? I don't know.
Oh, we gotta do. I gotta write it down. Write it down.
I'm gonna hit a button I haven't hit in a minute. Are you ready? I'm so ready. Oh, yeah. So sports. If you're listening on the podcast, you don't hear the music because it'll probably get like copyright striked. So there's a sports music playing.
So imagine in your head that there's some sports music. You used to play this music when I would talk about sports.
That's right. It's it's actually called Chantel Sport. I'll listen to a build. Oh.
This is usually the part where I got like mad about Travis Kelsey doing something stupid.
Well, let me tell you, NFL season gets underway tonight. Los Angeles Rams. No.
No. It's the Patriot Sea House.
Excuse me. It's the yeah, that's right. It's the uh that's right. It is the uh what's the word I'm thinking for? Super Bowl rematch. Uh what I was reading is that the Los Angeles Rams are the Super Bowl favorite. Are they right now? Yes. Uh along with uh them, the Buffalo Bills, the Baltimore Ravens. I love the Bills, the Seattle Seahawks.
Did you say the Ravens? Yes, I did.
The Seattle Seahawks, who are the uh defending champion, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Those are the top favorite teams to go to the Super Bowl.
The Ravens Bill's Super Bowl would be cool. I don't think they can because they're in the same uh whatever conference quadrant.
Yeah, that's not what it's called. Uh the teams with the worst odds, the Arizona Cardinals and the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins are so bad right now.
That is uh that's what's going on there. Now, uh, let's talk a little bit about people. Okay. Because the Las Vegas Raiders, they have the number one overall draft pick. That's Fernando Mendoza. He's backing up veteran Kirk Cousins. What's up? Mendoza is the first quarterback taken number one to start his career on the bench since Baker Mayfield.
Baker Mayfield is so mad at the Buccaneers. Have you been listening to that? I have not. Oh. And Baker Mayfield, if you'll remember, he gets a little bit hot headed. Yeah. Okay. All right.
This is this is why I like when you talk sports because you get into the drama. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You like that part of it.
I do like that part of it. I don't know.
Some people are like, I like the stats. Some other people are like, I like the play calling. I like the the mechanics of the game. Some people are like, I like to just watch them smash into each other. I like the violence of it. Not you. You're over here like so and so is talking trash on the sidelines. Woo! Drama. You bring a different element.
I don't like when people are being mean to each other. Right. I don't like that part. Like when Travis Kelsey gets mad and throws his football helmet down and then yells at his coach. I don't care for that. That makes me want to not
like one of the games this weekend is happening in Australia. Okay. Which one? You're gonna have to look that up. I can't remember. But it is uh it is happening in Australia.
I know that my Vikes are playing on Sunday. Yeah, who are they playing? Uh, the cheese heads. Oh, it's an inner division rivalry.
It sure is. How fun. You think you're gonna win? Oh, yeah. Yeah? Oh, yeah. Who's your quarterback? Kyler Murray. How tall is he?
That doesn't even matter. Somebody was saying that he can't see over the O line. Your coach. Your coach said that. He just needs a little bit of a step stool.
He's not gonna get a step stool in the quarterback pocket. They're not gonna build a platform so he can see over his offensive linemen.
Okay, I do not like the Packers, but I do like Jordan Love. Okay. It's the only thing they have going for them. All right. So that's it. Oh, yeah. Okay.
It's listen to you and all your football. Uh I did not participate in fantasy football this season. Uh, as we've talked about. Um, but there are a bunch of different people in the office that did. So I've I've heard rumors about teams. There are only six teams playing, which means we've done like a family league of four teams, and every team was like huge points because there's so many great players available.
Yeah. I think it's going to be a high scoring season for the uh inner office fantasy football. You're right. Uh, because there are only six teams playing.
So um, all right. And what's Mike Tomlin been up to since uh he's since he's not uh playing Fortnite. That's what he's been up to. He's building a city in Minecraft.
He's been working on it for 12 years. He was recently doing a TV interview. Um, and they said, What's been going on? And he said, I'm working on my Minecraft city. I've been working on it for 12 years. And so that's what he's doing. That's funny. Yep. That's what I know about.
Okay, well, good luck to your team, unless your team is the Chiefs.
And then And then down with you. Yeah.
Okay. Sorry, not sorry. All right.
Well, let's have a great rest of the day. Enjoy the return of football season. It's here. I saw uh some videos this morning of uh grown men crying about it, being excited. Also listening to uh it's the most wonderful time of the year.
Do I think of that playing because they're excited about football being back? It's uh it's here. It starts tonight. On a Wednesday since when do they start football on a Wednesday? That's what I said. I know.
When did they start playing on a Wednesday? They play all the time. No, it's a like a Thursday, Sunday, Monday thing. Wednesday. Tonight. Football's back. All right. Have a great rest of your Wednesday. We'll see you back here tomorrow. Bye.
