Women Growing Wealth

Ever feel like you’re overthinking your next financial move or stuck waiting for the “right” moment?

In this solo episode, Tamar Hermes shares how a casual game of pickleball sparked a powerful reminder: building wealth isn’t about hustling harder — it’s about staying present, grounded, and in motion.

Whether you’re navigating shaky markets or simply unsure of your next step, Tamar walks you through three practical shifts to get back in alignment with your money and your mindset.

In this episode, you’ll learn:
  • How to use liquidity as a tool for peace and power
  • Why momentum matters more than perfection
  • What staying in motion actually looks like when you feel stuck
  • How to refocus on your “enough” and stop chasing what doesn’t align for you
This is your reminder that even small, intentional actions can build real wealth. The answer is not to freeze. It’s to move forward with clarity and strategy.

Tamar Hermes:

There's a moment I keep coming back to, especially when the economy feels uncertain and I'm not sure which next move to make. Because lately, a lot of us are feeling the same. Interest rates are up. Deals are stalling. The markets are crazy.

Tamar Hermes:

And maybe like you, I've had those days where I stare at my accounts trying to calculate clarity. And I wanna make a smart move, but everything feels foggy. So I did something unexpected the other day. I went outside. I picked up the pickleball paddle and played.

Tamar Hermes:

And here's what I remember that day. In pickleball, you don't win by thinking five steps ahead. You win by staying in motion, by being present, by returning the ball one shot at a time. And, honestly, that's what wealth building really is too. I'm Tamara Hermes, and this is Women Growing Wealth, the podcast where we talk about how smart, intentional women make, invest, and grow wealth their way.

Tamar Hermes:

And today, we're learning from the pickleball court. I wasn't thinking that pickleball was going to teach me this much about growing wealth. But that day on the pickleball court, I wasn't thinking about my portfolio. I was just trying to get out of my head and back into my body. The news was chaotic.

Tamar Hermes:

Everything felt uncertain, but the court was simple. Respond to what's in front of you. Move. Return. Breathe.

Tamar Hermes:

In pickleball, you don't win by smashing the ball. You win by staying light, by adjusting, by returning the shot you're given, not the one you wish you had. That's the mindset I want to bring to money for you today. Not panic, not perfection, just presence. Here's what I'm hearing from women right now, and these are smart, capable women.

Tamar Hermes:

I'm holding on to cash because I'm afraid to move it. I feel behind even though I've saved. I don't wanna mess up. The economy is so uncertain, so I'm doing nothing right now. This is a freeze response.

Tamar Hermes:

And the problem is it feels safe, but it's not because doing nothing, that's still a decision, and it often costs more than making a small imperfect move. Wealth doesn't grow in perfection, it grows in motion. So let's talk about what that looks like when you're really feeling uncertain. Here are three wealth strategies pulled straight from the court that you can use this week to get grounded, clear, and in control. Number one, stay light on your feet.

Tamar Hermes:

That means know what is liquid for you. And when I say liquid, in pickleball, you've got to pivot in order to be able to move. If all your money is tied up and locked away, no wonder you're going to feel stuck. You need to consider putting part of your money into an emergency fund into a high yield savings account, many that are still earning four to 5% interest right now. Now that's not keeping up with inflation, but it does give you an opportunity to jump on a deal if something is really low in the stock market or if someone brings you an opportunity, And it also makes sure that you have access to that money, which gives you sanity.

Tamar Hermes:

Look at SoFi and Varo for some of the options. You also can have a whole life insurance policy, You can have a cash value to borrow against that, which is another tool that offers flexibility if you get into a pinch. The goal isn't to keep all your money liquid. It's being able to know what's available and how to move your money. You kinda feeling that rhythm of the pickleball?

Tamar Hermes:

Stay light on your feet. In pickleball, you've got to be able to pivot. And with money, that means knowing what's liquid. Take a look at where your money is. What's accessible in a day or two?

Tamar Hermes:

What's semi liquid, meaning what can I get access to in thirty or ninety days? And what's tied up for three years or more? We can look at Warren Buffett who's in a full cash position right now, or you can look at yourself with stocks that are down right now is not a time that you'd wanna sell them. If everything feels like you can't move, you're going to feel stuck. Remember, not every shot on the court is a winner.

Tamar Hermes:

Sometimes it's just about getting the ball back. That's what wealth building is too. So here's what I want you to do this week. Pick one small financial action and do it. Open a Roth IRA if you've been meaning to start.

Tamar Hermes:

If you transfer $1,000 into a short term treasury ETF, that's a great start. The Roth money is going to grow tax free forever. It's an amazing way to grow wealth. You could also book a fifteen minute check-in with your CPA and just see where you're landing this year or review your numbers. Just do one move, just one, because one great move can compound faster than stuck energy ever will.

Tamar Hermes:

Number three, focus on rhythm. Reconnect your vision. In pickleball, if you obsess over the score, you tighten up and you lose your momentum. It's the same with money. When you're hyper focused on outcomes, it's easy for you to disconnect from why you started investing in the first place.

Tamar Hermes:

So I would love for you to ask yourself, what does financial freedom feel like for me? And when I say feel like, how does it feel? Not the tactical things of what it's going to give me, but how does it feel? What's the security level? What's the comfort?

Tamar Hermes:

Am I building cash flow? Time freedom? Peace of mind? What does enough look like right now in this season of life? Take yourself on a fifteen minute money date and write it out.

Tamar Hermes:

Light a candle. There's no shame, no pressure. Just give yourself some time to reconvene, to understand that markets are gonna go up and down, and you are able to make moves when you relax. When you reconnect to your personal vision of wealth, you stop reacting to the market and you start leading yourself forward. This is also part of the woman's way.

Tamar Hermes:

It's not about fast plays, high stake bets, or spreadsheets at midnight. It's all about access to smart aligned deals. Strategy that reflects your life, not someone else's, not what somebody else is doing, but what you need and what you want to do right now. Support yourself so you're not getting into the guessing game or trying to go it all alone. Find the support you need and invest with discernment, with rhythm, and with a vision that's grounded in real life, not noise.

Tamar Hermes:

You don't need to be perfect. You just need to keep showing up. If you felt overwhelmed or stuck today, I hope that now you've been given something of a powerful plan and a perspective. Here's your challenge this week. Audit your liquidity, what's available to you right now.

Tamar Hermes:

Take one clean financial step, even one small one, and reconnect to your vision. Let it guide your next move. That's how you stay in the game of wealth, not with pressure, but with presence.
