The U.S. Supreme Court handed the Trump administration two major immigration wins, ruling 6-3 that asylum seekers stopped at the U.S.-Mexico border while still in Mexico have not legally “arrive[d] in the United States,” and allowing the administration to end Temporary Protected Status for immigrants from Haiti and Syria. Writing for the majority in *Mullin v. Al Otro Lado*, Justice Samuel Alito said the Ninth Circuit was wrong, adding, “In ordinary speech, no one would say that a person ‘arrives in’ a place ... before the person enters that place.” He drove the point home by saying, “The running back does not arrive in the end zone ... when he is tackled at the 1-yard line.” Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented, warning the policy could push migrants to cross illegally, and in the TPS case argued racial animus may have influenced the Haiti decision.

A resurfaced 2021 podcast interview is drawing fresh scrutiny for Texas Democrat and U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico, who said, “I always think of myself as a Christian who hates Christianity, right?” Talarico made the remark on the “Activist Theology Podcast” with Roberto Che Espinoza and the Rev. Anna Golladay while discussing faith and politics. He also described Jesus as “that barefoot rabbi” and said Christ’s teachings were more “radical or revolutionary” than any political or economic theory. The comments have gone viral as Talarico faces Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton in November. Campaign spokesman JT Ennis pushed back, saying Talarico “obviously doesn’t hate Christianity” and instead opposes people “twisting the teachings of Jesus to justify hate, violence, and greed.” Republican critics piled on, with Senator Josh Hawley calling Talarico “so weird.”

Louisiana pastor Tony Spell of Life Tabernacle Church in Baton Rouge is facing a second-degree battery charge after video showed him repeatedly striking a 20-year-old neighbor during a roadside fight near his church. Spell, 48, says the man had long harassed his family and congregation, and claimed he acted after hearing threats to “rape your wife,” “rape all of your grandchildren,” and kill his family. After posting a $25,000 bond, Spell told cheering parishioners he had “fulfilled the Scripture” from Mark 16:18, saying, “I laid hands on the sick. I don't know how much recovery they're gonna have.” His attorney, Jeffrey Wittenbrink, blamed a “failure of law enforcement,” arguing repeated complaints about threats, slurs, and intimidation against church members had gone unanswered for years.

Former Virginia state Del. Nick Freitas told the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship conference in London that Western civilization is “worth fighting for,” but warned young men won’t defend it unless they recover its Christian roots. Freitas argued boys are being taught “as early as elementary school that they’re essentially the source of the world’s problems,” calling that message part of “woke progressivism” aimed at “undermining and demoralizing the West.” He said, “I don’t fight for Western civilization. I fight for Christendom,” adding that without its “theological underpinning,” the West will lose the values it prizes, because “I don’t know many people that die for secular humanism.” Reflecting on his own son’s military enlistment, Freitas said he had taught him that “his family, his faith, [and] his legacy is worth fighting for.”

A first trailer has debuted for the biblical epic “Daniel And The Fiery Furnace,” giving audiences an early look at Daniel’s stand against Babylon and his refusal to compromise his faith. The film, from EKKL Entertainment, opens nationwide September 18 and stars Mena Massoud as Daniel and Elijah Alexander as King Nebuchadnezzar. In the trailer, Daniel declares, “I will stand for my faith and my God,” as scenes unfold of Nebuchadnezzar’s demands, troubling dreams, and the fiery furnace facing Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, played by Sunjay Midda, Adam Lahraoui and Zaki Ali. Directors Matthew and Daniel Kooman say biblical accuracy was central, with Scripture reviewed constantly on set. “It’s like a tightrope, and it’s also scary,” Daniel Kooman said, while Matthew Kooman called the story “really fresh and really applicable to basically Western culture today.”

A legal fight is unfolding in California, where parents Justin and Rose Taylor are suing the Sunnyvale School District after officials allegedly refused to let them opt their elementary-age children out of LGBT-themed lessons. The Taylors, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, say the curriculum promotes beliefs “to be celebrated” while rejecting opposing views, and they argue parents should decide “when and how they learn about sensitive topics regarding sexuality and gender.” The lawsuit points to materials including *Pride Puppy*, which asks children to identify items at a pride parade. The district reportedly told the family LGBT instruction “is not optional and is not subject to parent opt-out provisions,” arguing a recent Supreme Court ruling in *Mahmoud v. Taylor* does not create a general opt-out right. Becket attorney Michael O’Brien says, “The Constitution doesn’t come with a California carveout.”

Two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5, struck northern Venezuela Wednesday evening near Maiquetía, leaving what early reports describe as severe infrastructure damage and prompting a preventive tsunami alert across parts of the Caribbean coast. The tremors, recorded around 6:15 p.m. local time, were felt across Yaracuy, Barquisimeto, Valencia and Miranda, followed by aftershocks, power outages and internet failures. In Caracas, weakened buildings suffered cracked walls, falling facades and possible collapses, sending residents into panic. Pablo Salcedo, director of Youth With a Mission in Caracas, said, “around here there is a lot of infrastructure, buildings, cracked houses,” adding, “it seems that an entire building fell.” Even as ministries assessed their own damage, Salcedo said teams were already helping frightened neighbors, “giving words of encouragement in the midst of this anxiety.”
