Emma: Hello everyone, this is Emma Zetterberg

Scout: And Scout Riley

Emma: Welcome back to WORDTheatre: Short Story Specialists. This week we have the last of our stories from our June show, California Women: Golden State Writing in Performance. It’s Dominica Phetteplace’s “Early Work” performed by Midori Francis. Midori is an incredibly talented actor who you may have seen in Dash and Lily, the Sex Lives of College Girls, or her new horror movie, Saccharine.

Scout: Dominica Phetteplace is a Pushcart Prize winning author who will introduce her story in a moment, but before we send it over to her, we wanted to spread the word that we have more content of Midori and Dominica speaking about the story and performance on our instagram @shortstoryspecialists. We also have events scheduled for September in New York and London and for October in Los Angeles. You’ll find more updates about those on our main instagram @wordtheatre and by subscribing to our newsletter on our website.

Emma: We appreciate you spreading word about WORDTheatre. If you have a moment, please leave us a review wherever you find your podcasts. And now over to you, Dominica.

DOMINICA: My name is Dominica Phetteplace and I wrote the story Early Work, which will be read by Midori Francis. Everything I write is about work. And how your job affects your identity. This is about someone standing at the portal between two worlds. I love magic and I love writing. Art is about making the invisible into the visible, and that can feel like magic. Maybe it is magic. I’m honored that Midori chose to read this story. She’s an artist of incredible depth and skill, and she knows what it is to receive a message from beyond. You’ll see.

Scout: Please note that WORDTheatre holds the copyright to these recordings, and no portion of anything you hear on Short Story Specialists may be reproduced without permission. Without further ado, here is Midori Francis performing Early Work.
