Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

So those who are the partakers of the grace of Christ will be ready to
make any sacrifice... – Steps to Christ, pg. 78
It was a gray winter morning in December, and my family
was about to have breakfast when there was a loud knock at the
door. My grandmother opened the door, and standing there were two
intimidating men in black suits. They harshly asked if my grandfather
was home. My grandmother suspected what these two well-dressed
men wanted from her husband, and she was terrified. Attempting to
show no fear, she politely invited her guests inside.
As the men entered the living room, a dead silence spread
over the frightened children. One of the men told my grandfather he
was being charged by the state for treason. My grandmother, though
she had already feared the charge, was dumbfounded and could see
the future of their family collapsing. My grandmother feared that my
grandfather would be sent to jail, and she was right.
From this day forward, an extended period of separation
and sadness began. Years went by in which my grandmother and
her children could not see my grandfather, except for a few, rare tenminute
meetings. Finally, after four years, West Germany brought him
back because he was a medical student and they needed doctors.
The family was joyfully reunited. My grandfather believed in God and
was a Seventh-day Adventist preacher. For this reason, his family
was persecuted by the government in the GDR (German Democratic
Republic: East Germany). They remained true to their beliefs
throughout this time. They were willing to sacrifice anything for the
Lord and always looked with confidence to God for the solution to their
problems. He remained faithful to them and provided for their every
need.
