What is That's What They Said?

Join hosts Julia and Kieran as they address the myths and stereotypes surrounding the campus community.

“That’s What They Said” is a space where we pull back the curtain on the college experience — the myths, the stereotypes and the late-night thoughts nobody puts in the brochure.

No topic is off-limits! We’re talking about everything — from expectations vs. reality, to campus culture, academics, friendships and the messy in-betweens. If it’s part of student life, we’re navigating it together.

"That's What They Said" is a podcast produced by WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1/HD-2 at NC State University.

00:03
Julia
Hey, Kieran, what's up?

00:04
Kieran
Julia, did you hear what they said?

00:07
Julia
No, what did they say?

00:08
Kieran
Oh, my gosh. I have to tell you right now. Meet me in the studio in five minutes.

00:12
Julia
Okay, I'm on my way. I'll see you soon. Welcome back to that's what they Said, an educationally conversational podcast where we address all the things that aren't in the college brochure.

00:29
Kieran
Hey, guys, we're back.

00:33
Julia
It's true. Been a few weeks. It's true.

00:36
Kieran
And then we're about to go on a hiatus again.

00:39
Julia
Three months.

00:41
Kieran
Sorry.

00:42
Julia
Sorry, guys.

00:43
Kieran
Sorry.

00:44
Julia
But we're here for this. This last episode, to just kind of sit with you and just kind of work through this together.

00:50
Kieran
Really just sit with that.

00:52
Julia
Just really allow that to resonate in your heart. Okay. We're gonna have some big feelings. And that's so quiet.

00:57
Kieran
Not the baby talk.

01:02
Julia
Lord have mercy. Yeah, the pollen's clocking to me. I didn't. I haven't taken my allergy medicines in two days.

01:09
Kieran
That's one of the things that I love when people come to North Carolina for, like, the first time, and they don't realize, like, what war we have to go through during the spring months. Like, my great aunt recently just moved to North Carolina, but it was, like, in the fall. So she's a clever experience, the spring, and she's like, I'm dying out here. I haven't taken my allergy pills in years, and all of a sudden, I didn't take for two days here. And I'm just. She's also not Southern. I don't really know why I gave her that accent.

01:32
Julia
I think that adds a little something.

01:34
Kieran
Yeah, I just. I have this thing now. Well, I've always had this thing. Whenever I, like, talk about two people in a conversation, I have to give one of them a distinct accent to separate them from the other.

01:42
Julia
Yes, of course.

01:43
Kieran
Or, like, the other day, I was. My friend had to write, like, a script for one of his assignments, and so I was like, well, let me read your script. And so I was acting out the script, but instead of, like, giving a voice, I just, like, turned from side to represent each character. And so it's literally just me looking like I was having a stroke, spinning back and forth for each character. It was pretty funny, though.

02:04
Julia
I like that you draw a mustache one half of your face. Right.

02:06
Kieran
It's like when they do the man on the one.

02:07
Julia
Yeah, that'd be a fun Halloween costume. Me, when I'm non binary. But it's just because half of me is a woman, half of me is a man, so.

02:17
Kieran
Okay. Nylo.

02:19
Julia
Buffalo. Yay. Would you like to go first?

02:22
Kieran
Sure. Okay.

02:25
Julia
My.

02:28
Kieran
Right. That's my thinking noise. By the way. I didn't just rip one.

02:32
Julia
It's okay if you did too. This is safe space.

02:37
Kieran
Nope.

02:39
Julia
Nope.

02:41
Kieran
My low is that finals are near and I'm genuinely terrible. Of five. I feel like, okay. About like two of the five that.

02:50
Julia
I have to take. Could be worse. Could be worse.

02:54
Kieran
I feel like, okay and a half. About three of them.

02:57
Julia
Okay.

02:57
Kieran
I like that. I did recently learn that. Well, my professor for like my. My fifth class or just one of my classes, I guess didn't release it until yesterday when our exam was that we had an exam. Oh, like, he's like, hey, by the way, the final is going to be on Friday at noon.

03:18
Julia
Perfect.

03:19
Kieran
The final? What final? We have a final in this class that ain't on the syllabus. And it's on syllabus. It's on Friday at noon. You say Friday? No, next Friday. But I have my supply chain exam on that Friday as well.

03:32
Julia
Oh.

03:32
Kieran
So, like, I don't know how I've gone through my entire college career never having two finals in one day.

03:39
Julia
Really?

03:39
Kieran
Yeah. This is my first time having two finals one day.

03:41
Julia
It's really not that bad because you kind of get in the zone for the first one and you just kind of carry that over to the second.

03:46
Kieran
I hope that's what happens. The first exam for that class was 17 questions. 1 7, Which I'm sure everybody's like, whoa, yay.

03:53
Julia
No, no points per question. You gotta lock in.

03:56
Kieran
Like, I don't. Who decided that? Like, unfortunately, I am team 40 questions.

04:02
Julia
I low key agreement.

04:04
Kieran
Like, only because they have to be, though I don't think I've ever found joy from answering another 39 questions.

04:08
Julia
But it's like, better odds, though, but better odds. Better odds. Better odds.

04:12
Kieran
Anyhow, so that was. That's a low. I just. That entire, like, section of life, like, I don't think I can remember any distinct thing from any of the finals weeks I've gone through. Couldn't tell you what happened in any of them because I just kind of like black out for a week.

04:27
Julia
Yeah.

04:27
Kieran
So that's what we're hoping to kind of keep going in this. My high is that. Hey, hey there.

04:36
Julia
I think I have a few.

04:37
Kieran
But like the one that I'll go with my great. My high is that I went to Wolfstock on Saturday, which for those who do not know, Wolfstock is like a mini concert that's put on by NC State. It's true. And so they actually get like, you. It was Young Gravy who headlined the concert and then K Camp. Who's the guy who did the Renegade song, which thought of you. Because he did the.

05:01
Julia
He did.

05:01
Kieran
Yeah. He's the guy who does the.

05:03
Julia
Wow. That's kind of. That's kind of.

05:07
Kieran
I was sitting there just like, yeah, yeah. But I couldn't let people know that I knew that.

05:12
Julia
Right.

05:12
Kieran
It was kind of crazy, though, because his performance was a little like, King, why are you here? Well, because he also just. He assumed that everybody in the crowd knew every single song that he was playing. Nobody knew any of them, except for, like, four people heard of him, had neither. Sorry. And so he would, like, cut out the music halfway through and point the mic at us. And no one would speak.

05:31
Julia
Yeah.

05:31
Kieran
So he was like.

05:36
Julia
Like, it was just.

05:37
Kieran
It was really awkward. And then at one point he was like, I'm just here for the ladies. Like, I'm here for the ladies and I'm singing for the ladies. Who's single out there, ladies?

05:43
Julia
And I was like, how old is this individual? I have no idea.

05:46
Kieran
But then he was like, what's your name, girl? And then he's like, I'm singing for you, girl.

05:50
Julia
And then he starts like.

05:51
Kieran
Like doing some, like, body roll. I was like, I'm gonna go. Like, I don't think I'm supposed to be here. I turned to my friend. I was like, I hope she's 17. Like, I just. I don't. What, like, what are you doing?

06:01
Julia
She's like, 14.

06:01
Kieran
Yeah.

06:02
Julia
I was like, she's visiting her sister.

06:04
Kieran
Favorite thing, too, is that, like, people's grandparents were there. Like, it was a crowd of a bunch of, like, 20 year olds. And then like, Grandpa Bill, what's so shocking over there?

06:17
Julia
Oh, never mind. I thought tomorrow's the last pcm, but it's actually the week after.

06:20
Kieran
Right. But yes, that was funny. Anyways, it was a really good show. It ended up being like, almost five hours, so I thought death was upon me, but the whole thing was free, so that was a win. I like that. He's actually really good. He performed like an hour and a half or like an hour at least of music. So that's like most of his discography. And his girlfriend Arikitia was there.

06:38
Julia
I love her. She. I got photos.

06:40
Kieran
She threw Fruit Loops on everybody.

06:42
Julia
I. I love her.

06:44
Kieran
Yeah.

06:44
Julia
I think she's really cool.

06:45
Kieran
I also love her. Had to explain to my friend's parents the other day who she was.

06:50
Julia
Yeah, I don't like that part, but.

06:52
Kieran
Well, she's an actress.

06:53
Julia
They're like, oh, like, for movies.

06:54
Kieran
I was like, after dark.

06:56
Julia
Like, some could say, like, in, like, by, like. Yes. Like a movie, like, film genre.

07:03
Kieran
Like, you know, if you're picking up what I'm putting down. She's putting down a lot. Yeah. So. But it was really good. It was a lot of fun. But I was the most dehydrated ever been in my whole life. I chugged a vitamin water in two water bottles. So you have my, like, 40 real. Whatever ounce or 60 ounce, whatever. So that was. That was a close call.

07:22
Julia
Right?

07:22
Kieran
And then what else did it?

07:25
Julia
Oh, Buffalo.

07:26
Kieran
I got a haircut.

07:27
Julia
Yay.

07:29
Kieran
And I'm sure you might be able to tell.

07:31
Julia
I'm sure you might be able.

07:33
Kieran
I'm really confident that you could potentially pick up on the fact that it's there.

07:36
Julia
Maybe. Possibly. Maybe a chance. Maybe.

07:38
Kieran
But it also does kind of give me, like. Like, literal bangs. If I like, actually.

07:42
Julia
Wait.

07:46
Kieran
If I, like, actually style them, I can really, like, really go for a bang on the camera. I forget.

07:51
Julia
It's a boom.

07:52
Kieran
It's. It. It's a bong.

07:56
Julia
Instead of a bang.

07:57
Kieran
Well, wait. But then I also. I have this dilemma every single summer where I go, I want to cut my hair, Stuart. And then I cut it short, and I immediately go, why did I cut it short?

08:08
Julia
I do that every time.

08:08
Kieran
I get it.

08:09
Julia
But.

08:10
Kieran
So I'm trying to compromise by, like, I just went shorter.

08:13
Julia
But I didn't.

08:14
Kieran
Because, like, normally, it's like a collarbone. There's another, like, inch or so taken off.

08:18
Julia
Yeah.

08:19
Kieran
But I'm kind of here for it. I'm hoping that it makes me sweat a little bit less. Also recently discovered this queen on Tick Tock. Put me in on. They just came out one of these, like, deodorant brands. Can't remember which one. Just came out with this, like, deodorant like, spray you put on, but it lowers your body temperature by 10 degrees.

08:33
Julia
I saw that, Ed. I saw that.

08:35
Kieran
And I said, I will be hitting up the store for that. Because if there's one person in this world who sweats, it's me. And I mean that with loving. Okay. Didn't need you to support me on that one. Didn't need the backup. I could have handled that segment all on my own. Unfortunately, I've never stopped sweating ever. I'm just in a Constant state of, like, I'm just a little bit too hot, but, you know, oh, my God. Also speaking of being hot. And then I'll be done.

09:03
Julia
I was trying to.

09:04
Kieran
With my friend who I haven't talked to enough. Hot minute. For some reason, were texting, like, oh, so any love interests? And I was like. They were like, oh, like, still. And I was like, oh. Oh, God. Right? I was like, I like it. Like, I was just like.

09:24
Julia
And that's the end. So thank you. Right.

09:30
Kieran
So that one got me good. That one got me good.

09:32
Julia
Anyways, go ahead.

09:35
Kieran
Thanks.

09:38
Julia
Let's see. Okay, well, I'm. Mine's like, less of a high. Low. Buffalo. More of just like, here's some things I'd like to talk about, but I will say my low is that I woke up this morning with agonizing period cramps. I said, oh, I can't walk, but we're good. I pop some ibuprofen and use my heated blanket. And then I would like to show you this picture that. Okay, so for a little, like, explanation here, Roddy. You know Roddy?

10:04
Kieran
We know.

10:05
Julia
Yes.

10:05
Kieran
We're familiar.

10:06
Julia
Oh, yes. You know how, like, our ditches at home have, like, pipes? It's like, pipes. Well, Roddy has been climbing in the pipes and hanging out in there and playing around. And so my dad likes to say that she's like. She's inspector number nine of the. Of the pipes. So what I did here was I. I did. I made a little. Can you see it? Hold on. It's. It's Roddy. I can't. It's not. It's not going. But she has a little hard hat on and a little vest, and I think it's the cutest thing ever, and I really love her and I really miss her, and she's really cute and. Yeah.

10:47
Kieran
It's been too long since I've seen Rotten grow.

10:49
Julia
Me, too.

10:50
Kieran
It's been too long, girl. Me, too.

10:52
Julia
She's so.

10:53
Kieran
Been almost a year since I've seen Rotten.

10:54
Julia
That is a lie.

10:57
Kieran
I haven't been to your place since, like, January. No, I didn't go over winter break, did I, for New Year's? Oh, hey, guys, I lied. It's been, like, three months. I was thinking back in, like, July. No, no, Forgot. My bad.

11:14
Julia
Next, I would like to say, Oh, I was getting torn up in the group chat last night in a bad way. So moving through that. Then there's this goose. As you can see here, it says, roddy, pit cramps, duck, goose. Busy, busy. Group chat. Yeah, but for the goose. There's this one goose that sits in like he sits on the sidewalk or like in the grass beside the sidewalk of where I have to walk. Like from where I parked back to my dorm. I'm walking me when I walk like this, when I'm walking and he sits right there and that's where he like sleeps. He just sits in the middle of the sidewalk and sleeps. And. And I. Right.

11:56
Julia
I love him so much and I cried the other night when I walked past him because I said he's all alone and where's his girlfriend and he doesn't have any friends. So I did cry. But moving through that, I love him. Yeah. But yesterday I walked by him and he stood up like he's gonna walk towards me and get me and I said, oh no need for that, no need for that. It's okay, it's okay. Anyway, so that was the goose. Busy, busy. I am busy, busy. I'm a busy bee because a busy beat because final exams are approaching. So I have a lot of projects occurring. I spent all day yesterday working on a project. It was taking me out. Yes, well, it was due this morning.

12:45
Kieran
It's.

12:46
Julia
I might enter today or Thursday, I don't know which day because I'm like in the middle of the pack on like the presentation order. So depends on how fast people talk. Anyway, and then I have a peer review project that I need to do my version of it and send it to my queen Audrey to peer review and then I have to peer review hers and then next week I have to like edit mine and then turn it out, whatever. And then I have high no exams. Of course I have, I think I also have five. Well, one other. Yeah, I think I have five. And then this weekend I'm going to a dance, like contra dance weekend in Carrboro. So excited. But I'm volunteering.

13:26
Julia
So I get to go on Friday and like help decorate and then I get to work at the check in desk and all this stuff. And then Cleo wants me to go to a bikini party on Sunday. Right. But then I have work Sunday evening and I said I don't know if I can do all that. And then the weekend after I have Cleo's birthday party Friday night and then a PCM party Saturday night and then final party or like our like end of year party for youth group on that Sunday night. And then obviously the last three days of exams and then I will move out and then I will go home and then my little boyfriend is coming to visit me in Wilmington.

14:06
Kieran
Lord, y'.

14:07
Julia
All. Oh, wait, guys, wait. That was gonna be my next announcer. That's why it says duck, because I call him my pet duck. But I do have a boyfriend.

14:16
Kieran
Yay, guys.

14:20
Julia
He's so cute. I like. I really need you to meet him, girl. Okay, wait, what are you doing Thursday evening?

14:30
Kieran
Like, dinner time? Or, like.

14:33
Julia
Well, there's. They're doing a movie on the lawn, and it's Superman. Okay.

14:38
Kieran
What time?

14:39
Julia
I think 7:30.

14:40
Kieran
Yeah, I can do that.

14:41
Julia
Well, I, I. Because he. We were hanging out on Thursday anyways. I was gonna make him come with me to that.

14:45
Kieran
Okay.

14:46
Julia
Thought it would be cute, so you should come.

14:47
Kieran
Okay.

14:48
Julia
Anyway, he is. I, like, I will.

14:54
Kieran
I'm.

14:54
Julia
I'm not even joking. I'll start crying. He is the sweetest, most kindest individual I have ever met.

15:02
Kieran
You just pulled the bike.

15:03
Julia
Me, when I, Me. When my. My camera just glitched. Cause I'm, like, freaking out. I, like, I can't explain it to you. I don't know. I don't know. He's never getting rid of me. That's all I can say. It's me. I'm a barnacle. And I'm stuck to him like this. He's. He's never getting away. I'm locking him in my. In my basement. Never getting away.

15:22
Kieran
That seems healthy.

15:24
Julia
That's my man.

15:25
Kieran
Well, this weekend I'm going camping. Yeah. So I would say it's equivalent.

15:28
Julia
Jordan Lee.

15:29
Kieran
Yes. They have a burn band right now.

15:32
Julia
Yeah, that I don't.

15:34
Kieran
So what do we. So we had to scrounge to see if anybody had, like, a gas, like, propane grill. We found one, though. Okay, so we'll be cooking some dogs on that.

15:44
Julia
I know. That's right.

15:47
Kieran
I haven't been camping since I was, like, 11.

15:49
Julia
It's so fun.

15:50
Kieran
I love camping. That's my favorite thing to do when I was younger.

15:52
Julia
What's the weather gonna be? Is it gonna be hot?

15:54
Kieran
I actually don't know how to checked at one point. It's supposed to rain, so hoping that doesn't.

15:58
Julia
Oh, I'm seeing 70. Chance of rain. Oh, right in the evening there. That's nice. Oh, wait, it's not lucky. It's just, like.

16:06
Kieran
That shouldn't be bad. We're gonna see. We're gonna see. Because we're also supposed to be, like, swimming and, like.

16:13
Julia
Well, the last time I went camping at Jordan, like, it, like, like, monsooned and, like, my tent was nice and Dry and like, it was fine during the day because, like, it, like in the morning it was like a little wet, but then it dried out and then we could go swimming. So I feel confident that it'll be great.

16:28
Kieran
Hoping it'll be okay.

16:29
Julia
Yeah.

16:31
Kieran
Yeah. I'm very excited. I'm going to bring hammock Cinnamon. A hammock.

16:36
Julia
I like hammocks.

16:37
Kieran
I would. Yeah. Props to being a girl Scout, I guess. I won two hammocks. Like, Inu hammocks. It's like the nice ones.

16:42
Julia
Yes. I need to invest in a hammock.

16:44
Kieran
Love them, love them, love a hammock. I really do.

16:50
Julia
My thing keeps glitching and I didn't even do anything that time. I wasn't even freaking out.

16:54
Kieran
Probably just messed it up because you pulled it so much.

16:56
Julia
I did it. Well, why would the microphone.

16:58
Kieran
Okay. Anyway, now that we're like 20 minutes in, let's go into the content of today's episode.

17:07
Julia
I thought it would be so fun. And by fun, I mean productive. If we talked about navigating the change and the transitions from like this school year to summer.

17:17
Kieran
Right.

17:18
Julia
Because it's. I personally find transitions to be very hard because I don't do well with change. And then from the summer to like next year, kind of. So the first thing I have is transition to summer. Going from full time student to something different. Speak on your thoughts. Yeah, I agree. Speak like a dog bark speak.

17:39
Kieran
You see my ears. Like, oh, Lord, let me gather my thoughts.

17:44
Julia
Gathering, gathering, gathering. Find it, find it.

17:47
Kieran
I'm getting notes of. So for this summer, I. I'm not doing anything like monumentally different from like any other summer, but in the sense it'll get is there. But it isn't in the sense. Because I'm taking online classes not in, like, I'm failing way, but in a. I'm graduating early way.

18:03
Julia
So just.

18:05
Kieran
I'm taking financial wellness and I'm taking a health class. I think it's like fitness and aerobics. I don't know.

18:12
Julia
Okay.

18:12
Kieran
And then I'm retroing tomorrow. What? To hopefully take note. Like, not actually hopefully, but hopefully take. Right. Wait. Tech accounting. Because then it won't count for my GPA and I can do whatever I want. My second accounting class, hoping to do that. And then I am going to be working here. I recently learned that I did not have many hours, as many hours here as I thought I did. So I'm getting a second job.

18:35
Julia
Wait, how many hours do you have here?

18:37
Kieran
Like 16.

18:38
Julia
Oh, that's. I'm sorry. Anyway.

18:42
Kieran
Potentially like 18. So I did just do some onboarding for another job yesterday.

18:47
Julia
Okay.

18:48
Kieran
As a server. Oh, I can't be right. Just me 24 7. I could not be asked to do another job that requires, like, monumental brain power.

18:57
Julia
Yeah.

18:57
Kieran
So I was like, I just need something that's quick cash and I can pretend to like everyone there for a few minutes.

19:01
Julia
Yeah.

19:02
Kieran
And it's at this like arcade, bowling, laser tag sort of thing. So it's just like kids running around and like eating chicken tenders all day. Yeah. So I feel like I can do that.

19:11
Julia
Yeah. And you can, like, I think it could low key be fun. Like you could like play a character when you're serving people.

19:17
Kieran
So here's the thing, is that the parties on the weekend not like parties. So parties, like for kids, birthdays. I can wear the costume. Like they have like a mascot and I can be the mascot.

19:27
Julia
What's the mascot?

19:28
Kieran
I don't remember. I think it's like a bear.

19:31
Julia
You might see me on a weekend,.

19:33
Kieran
So I can be the bear.

19:36
Julia
So they should hire you to be Ms. Wolf is what I'm hearing.

19:39
Kieran
I want to be Mr. Wolf so bad.

19:41
Julia
Oh, not Ms. Wolf.

19:42
Kieran
Want to be Mr. No, I don't want to be Ms. Wolf. I want to be Mr. Wolf.

19:44
Julia
Okay.

19:46
Kieran
I hate women. No, I'm kidding.

19:48
Julia
Oh.

19:49
Kieran
Anyway, I want to be Mr. Wolf so bad. Unfortunately, I'm too short.

19:55
Julia
Yeah.

19:55
Kieran
Can't like, cancel them. Like, why can Mr. Wolf not be, like any height he wants to be?

19:59
Julia
Right. Speak on that.

20:02
Kieran
I start a campaign.

20:05
Julia
Mr. Wolf is people too short kings matter. Short kings matter.

20:10
Kieran
Matter.

20:10
Julia
Y.

20:15
Kieran
Yeah. Anyway, so I just did some. Some stuff with that. But anyhow, my plan is to work as much as possible because I don't really know how I'm gonna be paying for anything next year. So I can't take out any more loans.

20:24
Julia
I feel that way too.

20:25
Kieran
So there's that. But I feel like I have like. Right. Former single thought ever challenge. I have a really hard time in the summer usually because as soon as I have nothing going on, I get really bored. Like, really bored. And I get like, angry and just like depressed. And it's hot outside. So, like, I genuinely jam packed my schedule because if I'm not doing anything, I'm gonna go crazy. We've seen this in winter break. We've seen this in just any time I've had a free weekend.

20:56
Julia
It's a pattern we can recognize and.

20:58
Kieran
It's something I probably should work on. But I also don't understand why I'd have to change. Like, you know.

21:03
Julia
Right.

21:05
Kieran
I don't have to change. Like, I don't.

21:06
Julia
What's the problem?

21:07
Kieran
I don't perfect the way I am.

21:08
Julia
Like, I thought that was in every.

21:11
Kieran
Single way anyway, can bring me down. Okay, so why don't you bring me down today anyways?

21:22
Julia
Right, Right. I like that.

21:24
Kieran
Just how to hit that really quick. Yeah. So I just have a hard time in the summer because I've always been this way. I've always been like, I grew up constantly doing something. I like, played multiple sports. I was always in a club. I did volleyball. So I was never not doing anything. And so then in the summer I try and kind of keep that momentum going, but I do enjoy, like for the first three days of not having responsibility, just like frolicking for the first, like, not even three days. Like the first like 24 hours. And then after that I'm like, let's get going. What we doing? So I think that's definitely something that's gotten worse as I've gotten older because now I have like, also more free rein.

21:55
Kieran
Like before, it's just like, I can't my parents, like, I just, I have to, you know, and now I'm like a full grown adult and I can.

22:02
Julia
Do whatever I want.

22:03
Kieran
I have a car, so literally nothing's stopping me. And I'm still like throwing a fit.

22:08
Julia
Right.

22:09
Kieran
Working on that too. So we'll see. I think the transition, I like the transition to going from summer back to school more.

22:20
Julia
I agree.

22:21
Kieran
I think, however, I have a harder time with it, so I don't really know why I like it more. Nothing fills me with more anxiety than the three days leading up to when you start classes again. So that it's pretty humbling. Yeah.

22:32
Julia
I don't like the first two weeks of classes where nothing's like in a schedule. Like, because like, once you get into it, like, it's like, okay, this is due this at this time, like every week, you know? But the first two weeks is like, I'm going to miss something. Like, I don't know what's going on. But after that it's like, chill.

22:47
Kieran
Anyways, go ahead.

22:50
Julia
My plan for the summer, I'm okay after my last exam, moving out, driving home, and then I'll be home for like a week and a half. And I won't be doing much. My boyfriend's coming to stay for the two weekends that I'm home. But yeah, I'm excited and I don't have any plans. Probably go to the beach, maybe go fishing. And then I have a dance conference thingy the second weekend that I'm home. So then I'll leave Sunday afternoon and drive up to my aunt uncle's house where I'll be living for the summer and move all my stuff inside and then go to sleep and wake up. And my first day at my internship is the next day. So I will be commuting about 40 minutes every day one way to my internship.

23:52
Julia
Then work for eight, nine hours and commute right on back every day of the week. And I said okay, actually lowkey might be hybrid, but I will see anyway. So that's what I'm doing. Oh, also why is my thing freaking glitching? I don't even do anything. I also did get hired at KNC as the promotions director which is 10 hours a week. So I'll be working 50 hours a week overall because my internships 40 hours a week. But I'm excited. I like to training for promotions director stuff yesterday and I'm feeling slay about it and I think it'll be fun. So that's what I'm doing this summer. I'm probably going to go home a few weekends, hopefully go camping a little bit. Probably just hang out with my boyfriend whenever I can and doing a lot of crafts.

24:48
Julia
That's why I'm like hoping to bring my sewing machine. And by hoping I mean I will be bringing my sewing machine because I haven't had it all year and I'm really excited to like get some things.

24:58
Kieran
I never got that cat.

25:00
Julia
I know. I like working like a dog day night. Also I ran out of stuffing so it's just flat right now. But I have not been to Walmart in months so got to get some stuffing for that. And oh, the transition. Yes, I think it'll be like decently okay going from like exams to not doing anything for a week and a half. Like being at home, being at the beach, being with like my friends, whatever. But I do think that the going like moving into my aunt uncle's house in one afternoon and then going to work the next day is going to be a little not so fun.

25:41
Julia
But I don't want to miss this dance thing because I look forward to every year and I think it'll be fine because I don't need to move in a lot of stuff because it's like there, it's a house and they live there. So it's like already full of things.

25:54
Kieran
You still need, like, pretty much clothes and a drink.

25:56
Julia
Yeah, clothes, craft stuff. Soaps, lotions. You know, that stuff.

26:02
Kieran
The essentials.

26:03
Julia
Right. Clap back. Anyway, so I don't know. I think once I get into the routine of it, like, just go. Because I'll just be working a 9 to 5 and then doing KNC stuff, like, after work. So I think it'll be fine. Once I get into it, I'm just like. My plan is just to, like, completely lock in. Oh, also, I'm taking two classes the beginning of summer. Two classes at the second half of summer. So I'm just planning on locking in.

26:28
Kieran
Right.

26:28
Julia
Are you picturing it? I locked in. Because also, where my aunt. Uncle live, there's nothing to do. So, yeah, I, like, have the ability to lock in. So I'm feeling excited about that and feeling excited to come into next year with some money in my bank account, rent, being ready. Ready to go, hopefully. And then the transition back, like, after summer, we'll move into my home because I'm living in a house next year in, like, the beginning of August. Oh, sorry, I'm stretching. Moving to my house, beginning of August. And then classes will start. I don't know, like, two weeks after that. I'm not really sure, actually, one.

27:11
Kieran
I don't know when you move in, so I can't do the math for you on that.

27:14
Julia
August 7th? Yeah. Yes.

27:16
Kieran
Like a week and a half. Two weeks.

27:17
Julia
Okay.

27:17
Kieran
Yeah. We start usually on August 18th. So I like that.

27:25
Julia
So it shouldn't be. I think after my internship, I'll go home for like a week or like a week and a half. And then because my parents are giving me the couch. You know, our home couch is, like, brown and, like.

27:36
Kieran
Yeah.

27:37
Julia
Squishy and comfy. They're giving us that couch for our house. So I gotta figure out how to transport that. But anyway, so I'm gonna go home and then come back and move in and then have a few weeks to just. And, like, hang out in Raleigh. I don't know, do some stuff. Set up the house. And then maybe we could do, like, a housewarming party. That would be.

27:57
Kieran
That'd be fun. Love a party. I. Yeah. Hoping to throw some funks this summer.

28:01
Julia
We'll see. I love when you say funks.

28:03
Kieran
Yes. I'm gonna throw some fun.

28:07
Julia
And then we'll just get into classes and, like, lock in for my senior year and then.

28:11
Kieran
Which is crazy. I genuinely had a little bit of an accidental crisis last night where I was like, oh, like, this is it. Like, this is it. Like I like, I literally like.

28:20
Julia
This is looking crazy.

28:23
Kieran
Like I think it's because like a lot of like for some reason a lot of NC State senior stuff's been going on my tick tock. Not sure how the FYP is getting a little too local. The fight fip. And so it just made me realize that like that's what I'll be doing next year. Like this time next year I'll be getting ready to move on and I'm like looking at grad school stuff right now and I have some different like things I'm going to for that. And I think it's just, it became a little real last night that I was like, oh, like I really am kind of just speeding through everything.

28:55
Kieran
So I'm going to try and maximize my time next year and just like really take it all in because I spent a lot of time at state like hating on it instead of just enjoying it real. And now that I have only one year left, like I need to just get over myself and enjoy it for the last year.

29:11
Julia
Yeah, I like, I don't know, sometimes I still am like I'm in college.

29:17
Kieran
Yeah.

29:18
Julia
Like I still feel like I'm like 16 years old in my high school that's in the Kmart parking lot and like thinking like just like being like oh I can't wait for summer, like yay. And like working in a summer camp, you know, and then I like lock back in. I'm like oh my God, I'm in college. I have like these are.

29:36
Kieran
I'm going to be the years, right?

29:38
Julia
And I'm an adult. Well yeah, like I'm an adult. I have to like provide for myself pretty much. And like in one year I'll fully be an adult and fully like do everything and like have a full time job. And that's a really scary thing. But I just, I'm just like I'm just a kid. Like what do you mean? But also it's really exciting and like I feel confident in my ability to do those things and like slay graduation and like, you know, work full time job and I don't know, I think it'll be really nice to not have to do homework and like because like when you have a full time job, you go to work and you do the job all day and then when you come home the job is done. You don't have to keep doing the.

30:26
Kieran
Job when you get home because clean.

30:27
Julia
The tank is clean, the sun is shining the tank is clean. But that's. I'm picturing and I'm looking forward to that. And also I'll still be able to, like, do all the fun things like go dancing and do crafts and go to church. Like, everything will be great.

30:46
Kieran
The sun will be shining and the.

30:48
Julia
Tank will be clean.

30:49
Kieran
Just by the way, side note, if you were wondering. Yeah, so I was thinking about that last night. Back to the navigating change. Saying bye to friends for three months is the quote that Julia put on here. Yep. Loki. I don't really have to deal with this year.

31:09
Julia
Loki.

31:10
Kieran
So. Except for, like, Julia is the only one that I know that's leaving, so.

31:13
Julia
But I'll be 45 minutes away, so.

31:15
Kieran
No, actually she's closer than she has been.

31:18
Julia
True.

31:18
Kieran
So I'm actually winning in this regard. Normally she's like two hours away. Now she's not even one.

31:26
Julia
True. So I could literally come down here whenever I want.

31:28
Kieran
Yep, yep, yep.

31:31
Julia
And you can come to Greensboro whenever you want.

31:35
Kieran
Yeah, I just may.

31:36
Julia
Yeah. My aunt. Uncle have a cat also. But it's not like Roddy. No, he's. His name is Percy. He's an outside cat. He's a farm cat.

31:46
Kieran
Oh, yeah, that's cute.

31:48
Julia
He's nasty.

31:49
Kieran
It is kind of annoying, though, when you have to switch friend groups for three months. I feel like I have to get, like, close to pockets of people for a certain amount of time. And then I think summer kind of destroys a lot of friendships that you have.

31:58
Julia
Well, it's because, like, the momentum is just gone.

32:00
Kieran
But then when you come back, you really have no reason to reach out to someone outside of the fact that, like, you want to. Yeah, I think we've talked about this before on the podcast too, but it's like, in high school, like, the reason you kept friendships for so long is because you had to see each other. Like, even if you weren't in the same class, you probably saw them in the hallway or like, whatever. We're in college. If you want a friend, you have to put in the effort to make the friend. Like, there's no situation that it'll keep you there. And the chances that you're in the same exact class as somebody a second time, by pure coincidence, are a lot smaller than in high school, depending on the high school you went to.

32:31
Kieran
But most of them function in the same general capacity. So it definitely is kind of awkward when you get back and you're trying to, like, catch up on the last three months, but also try and get back to the same place that you were, because you don't. Because you're about to start everything again. And then it's like. That's the one thing I really don't think I necessarily love about college is it's just a constant fighting for your social life. It's never stable. It's, like, never true. But I think, like I said this year, I think all my friends, for the most part, are staying here in Raleigh and. Or going to be nearby. So I'm winning.

33:06
Julia
So life is great, actually.

33:07
Kieran
Yeah.

33:09
Julia
Yeah. I. I feel like I'm pretty, like. Like you said, I'm going to be closer than I usually am. I feel like the. The group of friends that I usually don't see over the summer are my PCM friends. Because there's a. Like, a lot of us, we all live in different places or we're all doing internships in different places and we don't, like. It's, like, hard to coordinate all of us, like, doing something. Like, were trying to plan a trip. We're thinking about going to Puerto Rico, but I don't know if that's happening. Like, we don't know, so. Because it's coordinating so many people. Right. But it is, like, sad when I don't get to see them for three freaking months. But I do love texting people and be, like, thinking of you.

33:51
Kieran
Yeah. Biggest compliment, right?

33:54
Julia
I best believe Blake is gonna be receiving a lot of texts from me this summer.

33:57
Kieran
Yeah. Are you gonna go visit him?

33:59
Julia
Yeah, I hope so. He has an internship in Georgia, so I think I see what he's doing. He's doing paper stuff because he's, like, studying paper and chemistry. I don't really know, but I will miss my little friends. I miss Josa, but she lives in Durham, so I can loki see her whenever I want. She has really cute cats as well.

34:24
Kieran
She's that naked. Naked cat.

34:26
Julia
Yeah.

34:27
Kieran
I look like.

34:29
Julia
I did not see that. Yes, you did. What?

34:32
Kieran
You told me I looked like the naked cat.

34:36
Julia
I don't remember that.

34:37
Kieran
Well, I do.

34:38
Julia
I gotta show you a video of it. She sent me one anyway, so. Yeah. I miss my friends and come town. I just glitched. Come to find out that most of my, like, my best friends. Like, like, declur friends.

34:52
Kieran
Yeah.

34:53
Julia
Are gonna be in Wilmington, and I'm gonna be the only one that's not. And I said, oh, so it's the opposite of last summer. So why are we doing that? Because I thought last summer was supposed to be the last summer. That anybody was gonna be in Wilmington. And now all of a sudden, everyone's in Wilmington. Okay, that's fine. Yeah. So working through that. And also, I don't know how I'm supposed to find friends in Reidsville, which is where I'll be living, because there's nothing to do. There's no.

35:22
Kieran
There's gonna be, like, one Singular Coffee Shop, and then you can just, like, bond with everybody there.

35:26
Julia
There is. I think my plan is I found a church that I really want to go to, and it's only got, like, 30 members, and they're all old. But, like, I don't. That doesn't bother me. So I'm hoping I can go. And that's. Those are going to be my social.

35:39
Kieran
Right.

35:40
Julia
Because I do, like, a lot of, like, community dinners and, like, events and stuff, because there's, like, such a small group. So that's kind of what I'm hoping is those are my rules. And that's also another reason why I'm, like, so busy this summer is because I was like, well, I won't have any friends, so. So let me just fill up my schedule a little bit.

35:59
Kieran
There we go.

36:01
Julia
But, yeah, it'll be fun. It'll be fine. And then I get to see everybody in three months, and I'll be so happy. And we get to reunite and do fun things again.

36:08
Kieran
Yay for senior year.

36:16
Julia
I'm scared.

36:17
Kieran
Scary. What do you hope to get out of summer break to enter into next year into the mindset possible?

36:27
Julia
You don't read through the documents.

36:30
Kieran
Oh, what do we hope to get out of summer break to enter into next year in the best mindset possible?

36:35
Julia
True. Go money.

36:37
Kieran
Sure.

36:37
Julia
In the bank account.

36:38
Kieran
Yep.

36:39
Julia
And also I'd like to do. There's some crafts that I kind of, like, have been planning on doing.

36:44
Kieran
Oh, my God. Wait. Speaking of this, okay. Have you seen that this thing, this trend that's going on right now is people are making these, like, craft bags? So they get this, like, big all bag, and they fill with every single craft hobby that they have so that they, like, always travel with it. Or it's like. But it's like a miniature version of everything. So there's, like, sewing stuff in there. There's, like, tiling stuff, there's painting stuff, there's drawing stuff, there's sketching stuff, there's like, sewing, like, all the things. And then so they're like, I just. Instead of, like, doom scrolling on my phone, I can just, like, pick out a little hobby that I know that I. Yeah. And I was like, pov, Julia.

37:14
Julia
That is me. I like, but I don't have one big bag. I usually just like, if I'm going on a trip, then I'll, like, pick out, like, a couple things. But I do. I like. My craft stuff is all in different places in my room. So I need. It would be nice to have, like, one.

37:25
Kieran
Yeah.

37:25
Julia
In my house next year. I'm going to have a craft closet.

37:28
Kieran
Oh, there we. There we go.

37:30
Julia
But I'm. I want to make some curtains. I want to make some, like, hangy banner things. I have, like, a lot of stuff saved on my Pinterest that I want to make, like, as decorations for my house next year. So I want to do that.

37:45
Kieran
And.

37:48
Julia
What else do I want to get out of summer? Some rest would be cool.

37:53
Kieran
Nap.

37:54
Julia
A nap. Maybe here. There. I would like to play outside a lot and learn a lot from my internship and hang out my aunt and uncle a lot and cook a lot.

38:12
Kieran
And.

38:12
Julia
Oh, I really want to learn how to can things because I would like. I really want to make, like, jams and jellies and things, and I would like to gift them to people. But I'm scared of canning things because I'm scared that the canning thing is going to explode. So my aunt is going to show me how to do it correctly so then I can things and give them to people.

38:34
Kieran
There you go.

38:34
Julia
I'm so excited. I've been wanting to do that forever.

38:37
Kieran
My mom used to do it growing up. We always went for Mother's Day. We would go strawberry picking and then afterwards. But we. We wouldn't just pick like. Like a couple strawberries to say we did it. Like, were picking buckets. Like, there was five of us because I have two siblings and my parents, each of us were tasked with filling a bucket. Like, at a minimum, there was at least five buckets coming home with strawberries. And then my mom, we could, like, have a bucket to snack on or, like two buckets to snack on. And the other three were all turned into jam. And so we did this every single year for so many years that we haven't had to make jam in, like, genuinely eight years. We just still have enough because you have so much jam. But it's genuinely.

39:09
Kieran
It's like, it's the best jam of my whole life. And my mom makes it. And we always did, like, the boiling the, like, water and you put, like, the mason jars in it and the whole, like, shebang.

39:18
Julia
Yeah.

39:19
Kieran
And we canned it. But I. Speaking of canning and jellies and jams. I need to get back to the farmer's market so bad. I have not gone in forever and I miss it. I've been thinking about it genuinely weekly. I think I. I'm going to probably buy daily at this point. I just need to go and like, get it off my chest. I don't know why I'm feeling so, like, drawn by the gods to go to the farmers market, but I need to go and I want to go weekly and I want to get flowers and I just, like, I need to put my spending money towards the farmer's market. I recently made pasta from scratch and strawberry lemonade from scratch.

39:54
Julia
Busted.

39:55
Kieran
And it was genuinely so good. And it, like, just reminded me of how much I love cooking and making things. And so I need to do that. But where I was going to originally go with that is that I saw that there's this thing that people haven't done. Right. What am I on?

40:10
Julia
There are some.

40:11
Kieran
There's this, like, trend that people have been doing. Not even necessarily a trend, but like, I've seen it a couple of times where they have like. It's called like a farmer's market party. But basically you invite like a collection of people.

40:20
Julia
Yes. That's part of why I wanted to learn how to can things is because next year I want to. I want our like to do that like once a month. Yeah.

40:29
Kieran
Oh, my God. It's a farmer's market. And the way that works is you.

40:33
Julia
Invite like a group of people.

40:34
Kieran
We'll say 10. And each person has to bring 10 of an item that they make. So this can be like 10 jams, it could be 10 sandwiches, it could be. You could sew 10 things. It could be like bouquets of flowers. It's anything you want, but you have to bring enough for every single person who's coming to the party. And then you lay it on a table and everybody goes through and they take one of each of the things that people bring.

40:52
Julia
And you bring a basket.

40:53
Kieran
And you bring a basket. So it's like a. Basically a minis farm. Mini farmers market.

40:56
Julia
For free. For free.

40:57
Kieran
Except you have to pay for the stuff you make. But, you know.

40:59
Julia
Right.

41:00
Kieran
So I really want to do something like that. And everybody comes in little, like, dresses or like fun colors. And I decorate the apartment and there's like flowers and the people come through and they like get all their goodies and.

41:09
Julia
Yeah, like, that. You could do like a little coffee bar.

41:13
Kieran
One of the things in my bucket list is I want to have a pop up bakery at my apartment. So it's like I would, like, decorate the apartment super, like five either. And then I would make a bunch of treats and stuff like that. Like a croissant or like a little cookie or like a muffin. And I would make coffee and, like, because my parents have a bunch of really nice coffee makers.

41:31
Julia
So I would borrow one and mix them. Yeah.

41:35
Kieran
Yeah. Be great. I like that. So I want to. The things I really want to focus on this summer is, like, a lot of the things on my bucket list of that I want to do, like making homemade butter or going for a morning swim in my pool.

41:45
Julia
You can talk about that butter for a while.

41:47
Kieran
I literally haven't brought it up in, like, two months. Okay. I just got a new swimsuit recently.

41:53
Julia
Yeah, it looks really good.

41:55
Kieran
One of the things in my bucket list is that I wanted to buy a swimsuit that makes me feel confident. And that one does the just. Okay, check.

42:01
Julia
Yes.

42:02
Kieran
So I'm gonna wear that at some point.

42:05
Julia
I'm just out and about, you know,.

42:07
Kieran
Walking the town on that.

42:08
Julia
When you go strawberry picking. Just like, go ahead and wear that.

42:10
Kieran
In my swimsuit, Becky. But yeah, I know that my roommate really wanted to do something for, like, Fourth of July. We might do like a grill or something like that.

42:22
Julia
You just put a grill in the apartment. You're stupid.

42:25
Kieran
You're dumb.

42:26
Julia
We grill someone grills. You get custom girls made. They're red, white, and blue.

42:32
Kieran
I might get a tattoo this summer.

42:33
Julia
Yeah.

42:34
Kieran
I don't know. I really need to get a tattoo. I. Well, I don't need to. I just really want.

42:39
Julia
Hold on. You keep talking and let me go to. I'm gonna look this up.

42:43
Kieran
Okay. Yeah. So these are things I just really.

42:44
Julia
Want to work on my bucket list.

42:45
Kieran
Because they're all things that I really want to do and I enjoy doing, but I just don't ever, like, set aside time to do them. So if I have a bucket list, I'm, like, motivated to get those things done. I also want to just, like, I use summer for them. Not, like, for the most part, but I usually use summer as a time to, like, reflect on the person I am and the person who I want to become. Especially, like, in the structure of, like, the school year. If we take the general, like, 365 calendar year out of it, we do it in terms of school. Like, I'm at the end of one part of my life and about to enter a new one. And so who do I want to be at the start of that new one in August.

43:16
Julia
And.

43:16
Kieran
And so I usually try and spend the time in summer like reshaping my principle. Not principles, but just like the foundations of myself and whatnot. So I want to continue to work on that. And I feel like I've lost my funny a little bit recently and so I want to make myself funny again over.

43:32
Julia
Find it. I know.

43:33
Kieran
Find it. Did you find what you're looking for on Pinterest?

43:36
Julia
I did find it. So were talking about tattoos and I. Since I have finally money in my bank account again, I found a tattoo and it would not be this exact placement, but the design on this matches my other. Like my manta ray and my mermaid had the same like swirly kind of pattern, right? Yeah. So I found this octopus that has the same pattern.

44:04
Kieran
Oh, I remember when you found that you were in the office.

44:05
Julia
Yeah, this. But I'm not gonna. It's not gonna be going in my freaking armpit. It's going to be on my. It's going to be on my shoulder probably. But it matches my. Everything else already. And I said, slay. I got to send a message to my artist in Wilmington, but maybe I can get at the end of summer so then I can still swim.

44:25
Kieran
Yeah.

44:25
Julia
In summer. But feeling excited for that cuz I haven't gotten a tattoo in ages.

44:33
Kieran
I'm hoping to get something behind my ear is my first one.

44:36
Julia
I am excited for that.

44:37
Kieran
I'm really excited. Speaking really excited. Let's move into notes app. Final notes above the year. Let's break it down.

44:44
Julia
Let's see what I got. Break it down for me.

44:46
Kieran
I start dancing.

44:46
Julia
Okay. Stretch.

44:51
Kieran
One thing about me is I have to go silent when I stretch. I don't know why I can't talk and stretch. I just like, I lose the ability to speak when I stretch.

44:58
Julia
I don't know.

44:59
Kieran
The first thing I have on here is I've been seating a lot of people who like start their own dirty soda stand. And I genuinely think I could do it. Sorry. Like, I really want to have a stand at the farmer's market or something. And I just make dirty sodas for people. Like I feel like I could do that and I sort of feel like I'd be good at it and I feel like I'd make a lot of money. So maybe third summer job. I don't. I don't.

45:21
Julia
Okay, you. Oh my God. I was driving. Like I was driving my friend back to Meredith the other day and I passed. Somebody has a hot dog. Stand in their front yard and there's just like, two hot dogs for $5. And I said, wait.

45:35
Kieran
For $5.

45:36
Julia
That's a steal.

45:38
Kieran
Did you get one?

45:39
Julia
Well, no, because I am not.

45:41
Kieran
Oh, that's right, you're vegetarian. Awkward.

45:44
Julia
And I don't often find vegetarian hot dogs at a hot dog stand in someone's yard.

45:48
Kieran
Yeah.

45:49
Julia
So unfortunately, that's not really.

45:52
Kieran
Yeah. Not in the cards.

45:54
Julia
But I was like, wait, I kind of like that.

45:56
Kieran
No, I. I want to have some sort, like the lemonade businesses or like, I just. I need money. I think I could do it. Like, I feel like I could. I feel like I could do it. I feel like it's relatively. Relatively simple.

46:08
Julia
I, like, I've been thinking a lot lately that I think I. I would like to have my own business at some point.

46:13
Kieran
That's what I want.

46:14
Julia
Like, once I, like, have my, like, nine to five, whatever. Five. That's like my job job. But I'd like to have a side hustle situation, I think. You know Ryan that used to work for. Yeah, yeah. She has a. Have you. Do you follow her on Instagram? Yeah, she has, like, a little, like, craft business situation. She goes to, like, craft fairs and stuff and brings all her designs and stuff. And that's kind of what I'm picturing. Like, I did the amount of crafts that I do, and they just sit there, or I just give them off my boyfriend and say, there you go.

46:48
Kieran
Right.

46:50
Julia
I would like to make them and then sell them so that I can fund my crafts to keep making them, because I'm gonna make them anyway, so. So I would like to. I think it'd be fun to like, have like, a little, like, find my, like, five crafts that I'm really good at making and, like, that would sell and then just like the. Those cats with the long legs. Right. I love those. So, like, just finding my things and then like, just going to, like, farmers markets or, like, craft fairs and selling them. I think it would be really fun and it would be my creative outlet and it would fund my crafts right further. So it's just kind of like a.

47:27
Kieran
I always thought about opening some sort of like, mini bakery or whatever or like a mini cafe or like a.

47:32
Julia
Have you seen those, like, on Instagram, like, reels? I see these. These baddies that have, like, a farm stand in their front yard, and they just like, stock it like, twice a week or something. And there'll be like, a line if you people down the street, like, waiting at like, 6am to get like, get all their like baked goods and stuff. I think that would be so fun.

47:50
Kieran
I want that really badly. I want that.

47:52
Julia
I see that for you.

47:54
Kieran
When I was younger, my whole dream is that I was going to open a bakery in Paris.

47:59
Julia
Oh, you were a Paris girl.

48:00
Kieran
I did have a phase where everything was Paris. Sorry.

48:03
Julia
And there's. It was like a few decorations that are still up in.

48:06
Kieran
Up there because I was lazy and I didn't want to take them down. So my bathroom and at home is still at my parents house is still Paris themed, but it's cool.

48:14
Julia
France. Have you seen that video? No, it's. It's like from like a pageant.

48:22
Kieran
Oh, the Mississippi.

48:23
Julia
Yeah, they.

48:25
Kieran
And she's just like France.

48:29
Julia
Anyway, sorry. That's you.

48:32
Kieran
Yes.

48:33
Julia
We. We.

48:34
Kieran
We.

48:35
Julia
That's we.

48:36
Kieran
That's we. That's we. J.

48:38
Julia
Bell. Si, Si boy. Yes boy.

48:43
Kieran
We Y mucho crepe. Like jeez.

48:52
Julia
Right?

48:57
Kieran
But now my goal in life is like after I'm super successful in a billionaire that I'll open a cafe that also is like a bookstore. You know, I like that. Or it's like also or like maybe it's like plants in the cafe or something like that. There's this cafe or like coffee shop in New York that I've been to that is a greenhouse and a coffee shop.

49:21
Julia
And so I know that's it.

49:22
Kieran
It's like a floor and a half. Like it's like the bottom floor and then you go up these like spiraling stairs and then there's like an awning almost that looks over everything. But one side like when you walk in and straight to the left, it's like you can go and buy all of the plants in the entire place. And then if you go straight instead of going left, it's the stand where you can get coffee. And they have like syrups that are made from the flowers that they grow all like when they. Even if it's not like a floral coffee, like the milk design that they do, like the latte art, it's like of a rose or something. And they like make all their strips from scratch and it's like you can get like sandwiches and like or like a muffin or whatever.

49:56
Kieran
But I love that idea. And like outside they have mini greenhouses that you can sit in. So they're like little tables and they have these like boxes that look like a mini greenhouse. And then there's like flowers that are growing like up the wall and they're like trees and plants and all sorts of Stuff, So I would totally do something like that as well.

50:09
Julia
That's right.

50:10
Kieran
Because I love, like, flowers and all those things, and I love coffee.

50:13
Julia
So I would love to have a cat cafe, but then I would want to take all the cats home. So. Actually, I don't think that'd be a bit of realistically.

50:22
Kieran
Yeah, I don't think I've recently been put on cats. Like, I was always kind of a dog person through and through, but recently I've kind of been debating whether or not I might actually be a cat person.

50:31
Julia
I think I. I personally think that you might be a cat person.

50:35
Kieran
I don't like. I. I really don't know because I did come across a wiener dog the other day, and it did still solidify my love for them. And I would very happily have one as a pet.

50:44
Julia
That was the cutest dog I've ever seen.

50:46
Kieran
Let me pull up.

50:47
Julia
Its name was Brownie. Don't know what gender we're kind of leaning towards here.

50:52
Kieran
I just refer to everything as a he, so I don't actually.

50:54
Julia
Okay, so his name is Brownie. He was so cute. His. Like that one picture that I made into a sticker where his lip is, like, stuck it.

51:03
Kieran
Oh, my goodness.

51:04
Julia
Look at here.

51:05
Kieran
There we go.

51:05
Julia
Look at his lamp. He's so cute. These little eyebrow dots. And he's so short, but he was so long and he was so tiny. He's a little baby. He was giving me kisses and I was kissing him.

51:20
Kieran
He was so nervous.

51:21
Julia
And tell me why. That was the first time we seen him all year.

51:24
Kieran
Little tails.

51:26
Julia
Oh, Doing this was scared. But he was scared.

51:29
Kieran
Genuinely the tiniest thing I'd ever seen.

51:31
Julia
Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Way smaller than rotten. Let me say. Look at this little foot. Oh, that's a nice foot.

51:39
Kieran
So I just want to poke it.

51:41
Julia
Yeah, I want to eat it. So nasty.

51:43
Kieran
I actually was telling that to a group of people that I'm, like, kind of only somewhat friends with. The other day is I went to go meet up with one of my friends, and he had brought, like, some other friends of his that I've met once or twice that I'm not, like, close with or super close with.

51:55
Julia
Right.

51:55
Kieran
And one of them had brought their dog, a big old golden retriever dog. Very good boy. Very good boy. And I turned to her and I said, or. Well, I turned to the dog, actually not even to its owner. And I was like, I would eat your feet if it was socially acceptable and tasted good. I'd eat your feet. And I stand by That I would eat dog feet if it was not. Well, let me preface.

52:17
Julia
Like, you guys don't get it. You don't get it.

52:18
Kieran
Like, I just want. I just want to nibble on it, you know? Like, they're just. Dog feet are so cute when they're little. Like, pucks, like, little cookie feet. That's what I call Ruby's feet. A little cookie feet because they're, like, perfectly circular and a little puffy.

52:28
Julia
But then sometimes they're like, Like, Piper's feet are, like, really distinct. They're very aggressive.

52:34
Kieran
They're so cute. Yeah. No, Ruby. I have Ruby. Ruby. I was trying to do my homework the other day, and I was on my computer, and she comes up and she just, like, lays her whole body on the keyboard. And I was like, okay. So then I was like, hey, girl. Like, can you. Can you just. Like, I'm just gonna scoot you this way. And then she immediately flopped back over on it. So it took me an extra 15 minutes to do my assignment because she kept flopping on the keyboard and typing things.

52:56
Julia
I love her.

52:57
Kieran
I was like, are we being serious right now?

52:59
Julia
Stinks?

53:00
Kieran
Are you being serious right now? But it was very cute. But I was also like, girl, get it together.

53:05
Julia
Roddy's feet are very circular as well.

53:07
Kieran
Very.

53:08
Julia
They're, like, actually perfect circles.

53:11
Kieran
Especially even when they, like, spread its toes, it's still, like, somehow circular in.

53:14
Julia
Front of you guys. I just really.

53:17
Kieran
I mean, here's a sticker of Rotten. Just bulb it.

53:21
Julia
Like, what? Like, how is it. How is it? My phone doesn't even recognize that it's a cat? It like. But my phone does know, and the pictures that it can recognize that her name is Rotten. So I can, like, look up Rotten on my phone, and it comes up with, like, 600 pictures. Oh, my goodness. Apparently, she's become famous in the neighborhood. There's some. We have some new little kids that are in the neighborhood now, and they walk. They go on a walk to our house to see Rotten, but they call her Bean, and they call my dad Bean's dad. I love that sticker. That's me.

53:57
Kieran
Oh, wait.

53:57
Julia
This way.

53:58
Kieran
There we go. Tag yourself.

54:00
Julia
Take it.

54:01
Kieran
Who wore it better?

54:04
Julia
I love that sticker. I use that all the time. But. So there's two little girls that call Rotten Bean, and then there's this little boy that calls Rotten Meatball, which I feel like is quite accurate.

54:16
Kieran
Meatball is a meatball.

54:19
Julia
But anyway, Roddy's famous, and she will, like, be, like, laying on the front porch or something and hear the kids walk up and she'll, like, run to go see them and be nice to them and mink around. And I think it's really cute. And it makes me happy because I feel like my parents are becoming. Like, when I grew up in my neighborhood, we had Meemaw, who lived next to us on the right side. And.

54:45
Kieran
That's Rotten foot.

54:46
Julia
It's the extra fuzz on there. Anyway, we had Mima that lives next to us, and she was like, our grandma, and she, like, helped raise us, and she came to all our birds. Wow. That's a loaf of bread. Loaf of loaf of bread. Anyway, but now I feel like my mommy and my dad are being the new, like, Meemaw of the neighborhood. Like, they're like the, like, the cute, like, couple that lives, like, up the street in the house with a nice cat. And, like, they'll come out and talk because my mom will talk to anybody. So it just yap and just. Just talk and, you know, hang out with Ralton. And then my dad will come out and he. He loves when, like, the little kids come and play with Rotten. He thinks it's really cute.

55:21
Julia
And he loves Rotten, too, even though he claims that he does not. He claims that Rotten is stinky in a bad way and blah. But if you. Like, if I go into the living room after everyone else has gone to bed, my dad will be laying on the couch and Rotten will be laying on him, and he'll be petting her. So I don't want to hear it. I want to hear it. I love dad.

55:38
Kieran
Yeah.

55:39
Julia
They're best friends. They're best friends.

55:41
Kieran
I've been really fighting off the urge to get a pet recently, but I'm just like. I can't. Like, I'm just not in a spot.

55:46
Julia
And also animal.

55:47
Kieran
Right. But more importantly. But I really need a pet. I really. I just. I really need a small little something.

55:54
Julia
You could get a snail.

55:57
Kieran
I could.

55:59
Julia
You can. By definition, you could get. I would love a guinea pig.

56:03
Kieran
I love guinea pigs. I grew up having guinea pigs.

56:05
Julia
They're so, like. They're a really nice size.

56:07
Kieran
They are, but they do they. They're pen smell. Yeah, but they go. You don't love it when it goes on for 45 minutes.

56:20
Julia
You know those, like, sugar gliders?

56:24
Kieran
I want one of those.

56:25
Julia
They're so cute. Oh, my God. I like, also would love a hamster, but I don't need a hamster. I don't know.

56:34
Kieran
Yeah, I always wanted a turtle. Kind of growing up. I don't really know why.

56:38
Julia
Turtles are cute.

56:39
Kieran
Turtles are cute. I feel like I could.

56:40
Julia
Could.

56:41
Kieran
I could rock a turtle.

56:42
Julia
Or like a frog. I could go for a frog. Frog.

56:45
Kieran
I'm probably more team turtle than frog,.

56:47
Julia
But I used to get turtles and frogs confused. Huh. I don't know why.

56:50
Kieran
Relatively distinct.

56:52
Julia
I agree, I agree. But for some reason, in my head, they're very like, they're both reptiles.

56:57
Kieran
Are they?

56:57
Julia
No, no. Frogs are amphibious.

56:59
Kieran
Or amphibians.

57:00
Julia
Turtles aren't amphibians.

57:01
Kieran
Are they not in the same family?

57:03
Julia
I don't think so.

57:04
Kieran
We are.

57:04
Julia
I feel like turtles are. Reptiles are turtles.

57:06
Kieran
Wait, can they not be both?

57:08
Julia
I don't think so.

57:09
Kieran
Wait, are there turtles, amphibians?

57:11
Julia
Oh, yes, they are. They're not reptiles.

57:14
Kieran
Wait, so are frogs not a reptile or amphibians?

57:19
Julia
Turtles are reptiles.

57:20
Kieran
They're completely separate.

57:21
Julia
Yep.

57:22
Kieran
I'm just dumb.

57:23
Julia
But in my head, I don't know why. I just like. Maybe it's because like, water, but like also land. I don't know, like. Like swimming, but also walking. Hopping. I guess turtles don't really hop, but. And turtles related well. Yeah, See, unlike amphibians, they don't have a larval stage. Yeah. Turtles are just born from eggs.

57:44
Kieran
Oh, they're tetrapods.

57:46
Julia
What does that mean?

57:47
Kieran
Four limbed vertebrates. Yeah.

57:51
Julia
So us.

57:51
Kieran
Oh, wait, no.

57:53
Julia
Vertebrates.

57:54
Kieran
Vertebrates, they share a common ancient ancestor. However, they're not closely related to modern terms. They belong to different classes.

58:02
Julia
Oh, we are vertebrates as well.

58:03
Kieran
Yes, we are animal with four limbs. Wait. Oh, my God.

58:08
Julia
US Classification cordata.

58:10
Kieran
Okay.

58:11
Julia
Warm blooded.

58:11
Kieran
Wait, hold on.

58:12
Julia
Okay, so we're not like worms.

58:14
Kieran
I'm okay with that. Hold on. Wait. Tag yourself.

58:17
Julia
Oh, that's us.

58:18
Kieran
I feel like I'm the turtle.

58:20
Julia
I kind of like that. They're really cute.

58:22
Kieran
Oh, you can see my religious.

58:25
Julia
Wait, let me send you a reel. That Adam sent me it because it's frog.

58:30
Kieran
Also. This is you.

58:32
Julia
I'm scared. I'm really. Oh, wait, look at this. It says you and me. If were toads. And it's a toad. A little toad on top of another toad. It's us.

58:43
Kieran
I was gonna say that.

58:44
Julia
This is you. I. Okay, see? Can you see how I get turtle and frog confused when you pull that up?

58:50
Kieran
What is you showing your traps?

58:52
Julia
Is it. Is that a turtle or a frog?

58:56
Kieran
It's a myobatris.

58:58
Julia
So what? So what would that be?

59:00
Kieran
I don't know. Oh, it's a turtle.

59:02
Julia
Frog. Oh, my God. You know who you and I are?

59:05
Kieran
What?

59:07
Julia
Looking them up.

59:08
Kieran
Okay.

59:13
Julia
And I know that you know this is true.

59:16
Kieran
Scared. Fearing.

59:19
Julia
Let me find a good picture here.

59:21
Kieran
Hold on.

59:29
Julia
These. These baddies from Epic.

59:31
Kieran
Oh, my God.

59:33
Julia
The snail. The snail. The slug from Epic. That is us. We.

59:38
Kieran
I love them dying. That really is.

59:40
Julia
I love that movie. That's a great movie.

59:42
Kieran
I haven't watched that so long.

59:44
Julia
We should be them for Halloween next year.

59:46
Kieran
Yeah, we'll go with snails and slugs. What is it?

59:48
Julia
Oh, wait. Mub. And then I think the other one's name is Grub.

59:52
Kieran
Mub and Grub,.

59:56
Julia
That's us. Welcome back to. That's what they said with Grub.

01:00:02
Kieran
Oh, my God.

01:00:03
Julia
I love them.

01:00:04
Kieran
We just talk really slow as well.

01:00:07
Julia
Oh, they're so. They're so nasty. I like them.

01:00:10
Kieran
Now, I hate to cut this short, but I do have a call in about eight minutes.

01:00:13
Julia
Right, right. Yeah. I need to do some work, so.

01:00:17
Kieran
Thank you guys for joining us. For the past however many months we've been doing this now a lot. It'll be a while till we see you guys again, but we've appreciated our time. We hope you appreciate it. Re watch the old episodes. Follow us on the pod.

01:00:32
Julia
We're always with you.
