It's stained glass and it's an octopus, and it has a lime green background, which I adore. However, since we're sharing, I will reveal two lessons learned behind the scenes things. Whether you're a stained glass artist or not. This you might not be interested in knowing, but I will tell you. When we do the stained glass process, we use what's called the Tiffany technique.

We cut nothing. So that is in, for stained glass. You wrap each piece of glass in copper foil, and then all of those pieces get connected with solder. So keep in mind copper foil. Right. So I had this, you know, wonderful original idea to include incorporate pennies into my stained glass. So I wrapped each penny with copper foil like I do the pieces of glass.

And when I started soldering the pennies, which are copper, sucked down that solder so fast that the penny was gone, it like, became a black puddle. And I was like, oh, that sucks, because the penny suckers is kind of like my, this is actually pretty frickin heavy. Yeah, I use over one roll of solder.

Oh yeah. Plus pennies. Which coins get heavy is you add them.

Well, there's triple the amount now, so hear me out the pennies. Now we're covered in solder which is like liquid mercury when you're working with it. And when you finish it with the patina it turns black. So my pennies were buried under solder. So that sucked. And I'm like, oh, well, I figure what I would do is just go on with the piece.

And when I was, done, which is what I did, is I took some resin, like clear coat resin. It's like it's like a really strong glue. And I affixed each penny to each sucker on the front, but I had to also do the back. So there was a stack of three fucking pennies for each sucker.

Yes, there's your inside Intel about this piece. I am really happy with how it came out. And the other thing I will tell you, if any other artists out there, this could go for any medium. If you get to the end of your project and it's not quite square like the right angles don't quite line up, which happened with stained glass for me quite a bit because I don't use the proper tools like measuring I like.

For me it doesn't always come out square. I have, I have been, I've used my eye and I'm like this is fine. I get to the end and I'm like, oh, that's wonky. So it happened with this one. I had this lime green background and I was really happy with how it looked as a square. And sometimes for pieces that I've done that don't aren't square, I exaggerate this the non squareness even more by cutting into angles and making it a misshapen background on purpose.

I do the random, like go to a shelf, find it, or I read about a book and I definitely intentionally go get it. But I also love getting like a grab bag. And sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised. And this one I was. So the reason why I was inspired by it is because I am also writing a lot of reflective, personal essays right now, and to to deal with topics that are serious, like mental health.

She just is very open and honest about it. So my inspiration this week is other artists, which sounds very broad. But when we were on our trip recently, we did a very adult thing and we went to an art gallery that we stumbled upon. And it was a collective of a bunch of local artists in Carlsbad and Oceanside, California, and we purchased a piece of art off the wall and had it shipped home to us in Massachusetts.
