Welcome, dear listeners. Today, we delve into the Tanya, specifically Chapter 29. This chapter provides a profound perspective on our everyday struggles.
The Alter Rebbe, author of the Tanya, tells us that every Jew has two souls – a divine soul, and an animal soul. The divine soul seeks connection with God, while the animal soul craves physical pleasures. This duality often leads to an internal battle within us.
Think of these souls as two adversaries. The divine soul is like a small candle flame, yearning to rise upwards, while the animal soul is like a heavy stone, always dragging down. This can manifest in our daily lives as a struggle between our higher aspirations and our baser instincts.
The Alter Rebbe, however, encourages us not to despair. He assures us that the divine soul, although it may seem weaker, has the power to transform the animal soul. Just as a small flame can illuminate a dark room, so too can our divine soul enlighten our animalistic tendencies.
So, the next time you feel a conflict within you, remember the words of the Alter Rebbe. Recognize this as a sign of your divine soul trying to elevate your animal soul. Respond with patience, understanding and a determination to let your divine soul guide your actions.
May we all be successful in this endeavor, ensuring harmony within ourselves and radiating positivity to those around us.
