Beyond Brief Daily — I'm Michael Benatar. AI, tech, business. Let's get into it.

Google just shipped Gemini 3.5 Flash as Generally Available, and the pricing is wild. $1.50 per million input tokens at four times the speed of comparable models. That's price warfare. Google's finally throwing real punches at OpenAI and Anthropic with speed and cost as the weapon.

Why does this matter for competitors? Enterprise adoption comes down to two things — performance per dollar and latency. Google just nailed both. When you're running thousands of API calls daily, 4x speed at half the price changes your entire unit economics. The one-million token context window means you can dump entire codebases without chunking. For developers building AI products, this could flip procurement decisions overnight.

Anthropic just overtook OpenAI as the most valuable AI startup at $965 billion. Not million — billion. That's a stunning reversal from six months ago when OpenAI looked untouchable. Investors are clearly betting on Anthropic's constitutional AI approach and their enterprise traction. No accident there.

Groupon's cutting 400 jobs — a quarter of their workforce — in what they're calling an AI-native restructuring. They join Meta, Snap, and SentinelOne in explicitly framing layoffs as AI transformation. It's becoming the standard playbook for how legacy companies justify workforce reductions.

I went deeper on the AI layoffs trend in this morning's newsletter — theBeyondbrief.com if you want the full breakdown.

Beijing startup Vast just raised $200 million at over a billion-dollar valuation for AI-generated 3D assets. Twenty million users already creating 3D content from text prompts. Chinese investors are betting that 3D generation is the next frontier after text and images. When gaming and metaverse companies can spin up environments instantly instead of hiring 3D artists, that's a real business.

The cybersecurity picture's getting ugly fast. The World Economic Forum shows 87% of leaders see AI vulnerabilities as the fastest-growing cyber risk. Meanwhile, a critical FortiClient exploit just dropped — CVE-2026-35616 with a 9.1 severity score. Pre-authentication API bypass leading to full privilege escalation. That's enterprise management software getting compromised at scale.

Stord closed a massive $250 million Series F at $3 billion valuation from Kleiner Perkins and Founders Fund. Supply chain logistics isn't sexy, but it's printing money. When shipping costs and delivery speed determine who wins e-commerce, the infrastructure layer gets billion-dollar valuations.

Here's what's actually happening: Google's price war forces every AI company to pick between margins and market share. Meanwhile Anthropic's surge shows investors are picking safety and enterprise trust over raw capability. The companies that can win on price and safety are going to own enterprise AI.
