Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by
day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that
destroys at midday. – Psalms 91:5, 6 NIV
We were now homeless with no rest in sight. We had no
passports, money, or any relative’s phone number to help us find our
way back to the U.S. Looking down the road, for miles it seemed,
we could not even see a faint light signalling that civilisation was
close by. We walked for about ten minutes with no plan, and then we
spotted a tall gate on the side of the road. With nowhere else to go, we
reluctantly spent the night there on the side of the road.
It was a sleepless night, and the arrival of morning only
brought us back to our cruel reality. Suddenly, we caught sight of
a young man walking on the road. He seemed to be on his way to
school. We managed to get his attention and ask him for help. We told
him how we had been robbed at gunpoint. After thinking for a minute,
he took out his phone and called a friend who owned a taxi and could
drive us to the city. The taxi driver kindly took us to the bank where
we were shown no sympathy by the employees; we had no form of
identification to withdraw any money. We spent the rest of the day
walking around the city penniless, asking people for any sort of help.
By late afternoon, we were back at square one. We had had
no food or water all day, and the emotional trauma had us drained
and weary. Feeling helpless, I casually reached into my coat pocket,
only to be surprised by some sort of sticky goo. Pulling out what I had
found, I was startled by the sight of a five-dollar bill attached to a glob
of sticky bubble gum. With it, we were able to buy some snacks from a
gas station before we continued our search for help.
Though we may find ourselves with no way out of a desperate
situation, God will never fail to provide for our essential needs.
