Good morning and

welcome to Morning Serial.

Okay good morning and

welcome to Thursday.

It's Friday and it's

also National Bow Tie Day.

It's a nod to style

and personality I guess.

I mean I don't know

are you a bow tie person?

There is a certain je ne sais quoi about

a person sporting a bow tie right?

I guess I need to pull out

the black tux again soon.

It's time.

Well either way whether you tied one on

or just admired a bow

tie, today is about flair.

And someone who knows a

lot about flair, Jack Black.

He said quote, "The greatest gift in life

is the ability to

think great thoughts and

have the strength to take action so those

thoughts become reality in this wonderful

and abundant world."

End quote.

Now these are some very

lucid thoughts from Jack.

Great achievements

always start with a dream.

So don't be afraid to dream.

Dream big then take action.

Well today's news facts and

birthdays are for August 28th.

We're going to start back in 1830.

That's when the first American built

locomotive, the Tom Thun,

well it raced a horse drawn

car from Baltimore down to Ellicott Mills

and let history record

that due to some mechanical

problems the horse won.

Then in 1980 researchers in Scotland they

performed the first

clinical full body MRI

scan and it was a medical breakthrough

that changed diagnostics forever.

Well in 1996 on this date after four

years of separation,

Charles, Prince of Wales and

then heir to the British throne and

Princess Diana, well on this

date they formally divorced.

And then lastly in

2003, prepare yourselves.

Do you remember this is the date back in

2003 when Madonna and

Britney Spears on the

MTV Music Awards, major controversy at

the time, well they actually kissed.

And Madonna actually kissed Christina

Aguilera after she kissed

Britney but the camera crew

had cut away to get

the audience's reaction.

Well I'm not sure you're going to get the

same reactions today.

We've seen way worse in

this world of social media.

Well happy birthday to you.

Today is your birthday.

You share a birthday with

country singer, Leanne Rime.

She's 43 today.

Tech executive Sheryl

Sandberg, she's 56 today.

And country singer Shania Twain is

turning the big six zero.

She's 60 which is

incredibly hard to believe.

I mean I had a poster of

Shania Twain back in the day.

Well the number one song on this date

back in 1989 was The Bat Dance by Prince.

Now I bet you forgot about this one.

This was a boundary pushing mashup that

was a chaotic, funk

packed love letter to the

Batman soundtrack.

Now if you remember it mixed all these

sounds and samples and

personas and it became one

of Prince's most

experimental number one hits.

And it didn't break any records.

It only held that top spot for one week.

Well let's go ahead and Bat Dance our way

into Stephen R. Covey's

The 7 Habits of Highly

Effective People.

And today we are learning about Covey's

sub-chapter, Synergy in Business.

And in this sub-chapter Covey illustrates

how synergy isn't

just for classrooms like

we talked about yesterday.

It's a game changer in business.

Now he underscores that when teams

operate synergistically

they exceed what any individual

could achieve.

Covey says quote synergy in a business

creates outcomes that no

single person could conceive

alone end quote.

And Covey highlights companies that

invited diverse

perspectives marketing engineering

finance to collaborate

on product development.

And he describes how these

cross-functional teams they generated

breakthroughs like innovative

features efficient

processes and creative solutions.

And Covey further says quote when

individuals bring

complementary strengths to the table

synergy amplifies their impact end quote.

Now as you would expect Covey challenges

hierarchical siloed

structures warning that

such setups stifle input and innovation.

Instead Covey advocates for open forums

brainstorming sessions and

leadership that values dissent

as much as agreement.

So Covey shares a case where a successful

synergy emerged after framing a challenge

not as quote who's right

but what's possible together.

So trust again becomes the foundation.

Covey says quote real synergy requires an

environment where

people trust one another's

intent and their ability end quote.

And in business this trust translates

into improved morale

retention and breakthrough

performance.

Kobe also emphasizes the leaders role

which is to facilitate the synergy.

Leaders must listen deeply.

They need to encourage idea sharing and

frame decisions in terms

of shared vision rather

than individual agendas.

It's less about control

and more about alignment.

OK here's your takeaway in business

synergy means combining

diverse strengths to co-create

solutions greater than

the sum of its parts.

It flourishes and trust rich environments

where teams

collaborate openly and leaders

foster unity of purpose.

So today go out there don't be afraid to

dream of doing something big.
