Scripture readings for the 10th Thursday after Pentecost on 26 August 2021.
On this day, we also commemorate the Holy Martyrs Adrian and Natalie, Our Righteous Father Joseph, and the Icon of the Mother of God of Vladimir.
Scripture readings for the day according to the Orthodox Christian lectionary, from The Ambigua.
A reading from the letter to the Hebrews:
BRETHREN, we feel sure of better things that belong to salvation. For God is not so unjust as to overlook your work and the love which you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do. And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness in realizing the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
A reading from the gospel according to Saint Matthew:
The Lord said to the Jews who had come to him: "I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it. And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but when it falls on any one, it will crush him." When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them. But when they tried to arrest him, they feared the multitudes, because they held him to be a prophet.
