One Gospel Minute

In Matthew 16:13-14, Jesus asks His disciples who people believe He is. Responses vary, showing that while many thought highly of Him, their opinions were often incorrect. This teaches us that relying on human opinions can lead to error. If people had read their scriptures, they would have known the truth about Jesus. Today, many face the same issue by not studying the Bible. II Timothy 2:15 encourages us to study and understand God's Word, discarding personal opinions in favor of biblical truth.

Malcolm Hill: In Matthew 16:13-14, the Lord said, "Whom do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?" Some said He was John the Baptist, some said Elias, and others said Jeremiah, and some said just one of the prophets. Now, we learn some lessons from this. In the first place, we learn that some thought very highly of the Christ, and we also learned that men's opinions are often wrong. If they had read their own scriptures, they would have known who Jesus was. And one trouble we have today in religion is that men do not read their Bible, and they do not know what it teaches. In II Timothy 2:15, we're encouraged to study the Bible: "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Get rid of your opinions, throw them away, and follow the Bible, and you'll be right. I'm Malcolm Hill. This has been One Gospel Minute from the church of Christ in your area, where you are always welcome.
