Chore of the Day – A2 Bud Helping at Home
Hello everyone! Welcome back to the VivaLing kids’ podcast. Today our theme is Chore of the Day. A chore is what your mom or dad want you to do at home each day or each week. Usually kids don’t really like chores. Examples of chores are: washing the dishes, sweeping the floor or picking up your toys.
In this podcast, we will talk about five different chores – one for each day of the school week - and the words we use to talk about how to do them.
We will also talk about some simple words you can use when you give instructions. Instructions are how to do something. Instructions have steps, and we often use words like first, then and next when giving instructions.
Monday’s chore is making the bed.
First, pull up the sheets. In some countries there is only a bottom sheet, but in other countries, there are two sheets, and you lie between them when you sleep.
Then, fix the blanket.
Next, shake the pillow so it is nice and fluffy and put them at the top of your bed. Finally, make it nice and clean.
Now the bed looks good.
Tuesday’s chore is taking out the garbage. There are many different words for this. You can say garbage or trash or rubbish.
First, take the trash bag out of the kitchen bin and tie it shut, especially if it’s smelly.
Then, take the trash bag outside to your or the city’s rubbish bin.
Next, put the bag in the bin.
Finally, go back inside and do something fun.
That was easy.
Wednesday’s chore is cleaning your room. It’s not a favorite chore.
First, pick up your clothes.
Then, put them in the laundry basket.
Next, put your books and toys away. This is called tidying up.
Finally, vacuum your floor.
Now, look at your clean room. Doesn’t it feel great to have a clean room?
Thursday’s chore is setting the table.
First, take the plates and glasses out of the cupboard.
Then, put them on the table – one for each person eating.
Next, add forks, spoons and knives. It depends on the meal, of course.
Finally, give each person a napkin – if it’s a messy dinner.
Nice! The table is ready.
Friday’s chore is feeding the pet.
First, take the food out of the cupboard. Then, put it in your pet’s food bowl. Next, empty your pet’s water bowl or bottle. Pets like fresh water every day.
Finally, give your pet the fresh water … and a nice pet.
Great! Your pet is happy.
Now, True or False
People sleep between blankets on a bed. It’s false! People sleep between sheets …. in some countries.
True or False
The place where you have plates and glasses in the kitchen is called a wardrobe. It’s false! It’s a cupboard.
True or False
Rubbish and trash are the same thing. It’s true! And garbage, too.
Helping at home is important, and you can help a little every day. Which chore do you like? Which chore is easy?
Your homework. Think about the chores you do at home each day or each week. If you don’t have any chores, think about chores that you could do to help at home. Write down 3 and tell them to your VivaLing coach or family member.
