Finding Business with Scott Channell

You won’t win a race by revving your engine the loudest while the car is in neutral. The noise is impressive, the fuel is burning, but the finish line isn't getting any closer. Sales productivity isn't about how much motion you create. It's about the quality of your outcome.

What is Finding Business with Scott Channell?

Talk about the art and science of business development: Stories and details to earn new clients or accounts, gain a competitive advantage and find your success.

I want you to imagine a factory.

The floor is a flurry of motion. Sparks are flying, machines are roaring, and people are moving with feverish activity. From the outside, it looks incredibly impressive. The noise is deafening.

But for all the chaos and noise, the output is just a trickle.

Welcome to the Finding Business podcast, where with just a few minutes, you'll learn something new to attract ideal clients and accounts.

That factory floor we imagined is designed to prioritize the appearance of work. The noise, the smoke, the sweat—these are the metrics of success they rely on. It is a very busy factory.

This is what a lot of B2B sales floors look like. They celebrate the smoke and sparks: "Dials Made," "Emails Sent," "Meetings set," "Proposals Sent." They are obsessed with activity. Many are confusing motion with progress towards a goal.

Now, imagine a different factory.

It’s clean. It’s quiet. The movements are deliberate, almost surgical. There is no wasted motion. It might even look slow from a distance.

But at the end of the day, a steady stream of flawless, high-value products rolls onto the loading dock, ready for shipment. It is a productive factory. Every motion impacts results.

The first factory runs on activity. The second runs on a process.

The noise and chaos of being "busy" feels like progress, but it’s a lie, a sales rain dance,. It’s a hamster wheel that burns you out and produces far less than hoped.

You won’t win a race by revving your engine the loudest while the car is in neutral. The noise is impressive, the fuel is burning, but the finish line isn't getting any closer.

Sales productivity isn't about how much motion you create. It's about the quality of your outcome.

And here is a fun fact from Channell land. Process has a rational relationship to sales results. Higher volumes of activity does not.

There are ways to transform a loud, busy floor into a quiet, productive one by building a rational relationship between effort and results.

Process scales. Chaos doesn't. Start now.

Hope this got you thinking.
