Prime Cleaning and Restoration Podcast with Jordan Brush

What is considered water damage for home insurance? In plain terms, most home insurance policies cover water damage that's sudden and accidental — a busted pipe, a water heater that let go, an overflow you didn't see coming — while slow leaks you ignored over time and flooding from outside often fall into a different bucket. Hey y'all, I'm Jordan Brush with Prime Cleaning and Restoration right here in Tyler, Texas, and in this episode I walk you through how water damage and home insurance actually work, so you know what to expect before you ever pick up the phone.

Water damage restoration is the biggest part of what we do, and I've learned over the years that most folks don't get straight answers about it. So we're gonna visit about the difference between sudden damage and gradual damage, why the source of the water matters so much to your insurance company, and what really drives the cost of a restoration job up or down. I'll be honest with you — there's no flat number, because it depends on how much water, how far it traveled, and what it soaked into. That's the truth, and I'd rather tell you the truth than a price I can't stand behind.

This is not my business — it's God's business — and we aim to work FOR you, not take advantage of you. If you've got water damage or you're just worried about it, give us a call at (903) 594-8007 or find us at primecleaningandrestorationoftyler.com. We'd be proud to help. God bless, and we'll catch you next time.

Hey y'all, I'm Jordan Brush with Prime Cleaning and Restoration right here in Tyler, Texas. This isn't really my business, it's God's business, and I'm just doing my best to run it right, treat folks the way they deserve, and set a standard for what quality's supposed to look like. Pull up a chair and let's visit.

So the question I want to answer today is a real good one, and folks type it into Google all the time. What is considered water damage for home insurance? The short answer is this, insurance usually covers water damage that happens sudden and accidental, like a pipe that busts or a water heater that gives out, and it usually does not cover damage that built up slow over time from something you could've fixed.

Let me break that down a little, because that difference is the whole ballgame. If a line bursts behind your wall and water comes pouring out, that's sudden, that's accidental, and that's typically the kind of thing a policy is built to help with. But if a pipe's been leaking slow for months and the wood rotted and mold crept in, a lot of times that falls under maintenance, and that's where folks get caught off guard.

Now I want to be straight with you, I'm not your insurance company, and every policy reads a little different. The best thing you can do is pull out your actual policy or call your agent and ask them plain, what does my water damage coverage include, and what's left out. You'd be surprised how many people have never once read that part till the day they need it.

Here's what I tell folks to do the minute water shows up where it shouldn't be. First thing, safety, stay out of standing water if there's any chance electricity's involved, and only shut the power off if you can do it safe. Then, if you're able, stop the water at the source and start taking pictures and video of everything before anybody moves a thing.

Those pictures matter more than most people realize. When you file a claim, that documentation is what tells the story of what happened and how bad it was, and it helps everybody see it was sudden, not something that sat for a year. The quicker you act, the better your odds, because water doesn't wait, it keeps spreading and keeps doing damage every hour it sits.

Now folks always want to know what it's gonna cost, and I'll be honest with you, it depends on the job. It depends on how much water, how far it traveled, what it soaked into, and how long it sat before somebody got to it. I'm not gonna throw a number at you over a podcast, because that wouldn't be honest, every single home is different and I'd rather come look at it and tell you the truth.

What I will promise you is this, we're gonna treat you right, we're gonna shoot you straight, and we're gonna stand behind our work.
