IN THE NEWS TODAY,
IN CAMPUS NEWS,
AC/DC to perform a show at Camp Randall next summer. The show will take place July 19th, as part of their power up tour. This will mark the third concert at Camp Randall in 28 years. The other two performances were last summer, Morgan Wallen and Coldplay. The stadium paused concerts in 1997 after a Rolling Stones concert. ACDC’s tour features over 20 locations, including South American stops. Known for classics like "Highway to Hell," "Back in Black," and "Thunderstruck," AC/DC has sold over 200 million albums worldwide since their first performance in December 1973. The lineup includes Angus Young on lead guitar, vocalist Brian Johnson, rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug, and bass player Chris Chaney. Tickets will be available for purchase Friday November 7th at 10am.
IN NATIONAL NEWS,
Trump Administration to partially resume funding SNAP benefits, after two judges ruled that President Trump acted unconstitutionally. The USDA planned to stop funding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Plan starting November 1st due to the ongoing government shutdown. About 1 in 8 Americans receive SNAP benefits, costing the government 8 billion dollars monthly. Although funding will be partially resumed, benefits can take up to two weeks to be loaded onto SNAP cards. Trump has not announced how much of the benefits will be funded. This comes after two federal judges ruled Friday that he must use at least the 5 billion dollar emergency fund set aside for benefits. Trump claimed that people were going to go hungry because of the radical left on Friday. He said that since they refused to pass a new funding bill in the Senate, it would be their fault that the government is still shut down. Democratic state attorney generals or governors from over half of the states joined the lawsuit against Trump.
IN ECONOMIC NEWS,
Kimberly-Clark purchases Tylenol in a cash and stock deal worth about 48 billion dollars. Shareholders of Kimberly-Clark will own about 54% of the company, and Kenvue will retain the other 46. The deal still has not been approved by shareholders of both companies. Kimberly-Clark will now own Tylenol, Listerine, Band-Aid, Huggies, and Kleenex. Kenvue has only existed as a stand alone company for 4 years, after spinning off of Johnson and Johnson. Kenvue stock jumped 12% since the news broke, where Kimerly and Clark shares dropped over 15%. Kenvue shares have lost almost 50% of their value since 2023. Kenvue also owns brands like Benadryl and Neutrogena. Kimberly-Clark likely saw upside in the other brands in Kenvue, as tylenol has been in the spotlight in recent months. Kenvue stock rose about 1% after RFK Jr and President Trump announced that Tylenol causes Autism in babies if taken while pregnant. RFK Jr, Secretary of Health and Human Services, reiterated recently that they asked physicians to limit their use of tylenol as much as possible.
