By now, we've seen how Matsuo works. He starts with charm and attention, then slowly tightens control.
Fabiano:Here's how Matsuo operates. After earning your trust, he shuts every exit. Following Matsuo's advice, the broker cut himself off from almost everything that grounded his life. He ended his relationships with his wife and family. He left his job.
Fabiano:Piece by piece, the broker's old life was dismantled. Then Matsuo forced him to sign a confession admitting to fraud and to stealing money. That document gave Matsuo complete leverage. If the broker ever turned against Matsuo, that confession could be used as a weapon. The broker used what remained of his savings and even borrowed from loan sharks to fund Matsuo's so called horse racing prediction start up businesses.
Fabiano:He also paid Matsuo regularly, believing the money was used to care for his daughter, girl A. When the money finally ran out, his freedom disappeared too. The broker was confined to one of the apartments that Matsuo had rented. According to the court records, Matsuo began by imposing strict rules: limited food, restricted sleep, controlled movement, limited access to the bathroom. When the broker failed to follow these rules, punishments followed.
Fabiano:The broker's daughter, Girl A, was forced to witness what was happening to her father. The punishments were brutal, forced squats until exhaustion, beatings, sleep deprivation, and electric shocks. These details aren't rumors. They come directly from Junko's confession and Girl A's testimony, supported by physical evidence and timelines from the trial. Junko was there, sometimes watching and sometimes assisting under orders.
Fabiano:By then she was pregnant with her second child. Her involvement wasn't just implied, she confessed to it. Over the course of months the violence escalated. Girl A's account and Junko's confession matched in key details. What was done, where it happened, and how long it went on.
Fabiano:The broker's health collapsed, so did his will to resist. And in 1993, he died. Matsuo ordered Junko and Girl A to dispose of the body. He gave them specific step by step instructions on how to cut, boil and discard the remains. In court, these instructions were confirmed through Junko's own confession.
Fabiano:When they were finished, there was nothing recognizable left. The next day, Junko gave birth to her second child. This marked the point when Matsuo's control became total. The first murder was not just about one man's death, It symbolized the moment everyone else became bound to him by guilt, fear and silence. They were trapped, not only in his apartment, but in a web where exposure meant prison and disobedience could mean death.
