Hello and welcome to WORDTheatre Weekly: The Short Story Podcast where great authors and great actors meet! I’m your host, Cedering Fox, WORDTheatre's Founder & Artistic Director.

Today, it is my honor to share our audio capture of Julian Sand performing "On A Winter's Night" by Kate DiCamillo. This story was performed at Venice High School in 2022, just weeks before Julian's tragic accidental death. We trust that his beautiful reading will fill you with his immortal spirit and also instill in you a little holiday wonder. We hope you'll agree that his performance is the perfect finale to WORDTheatre Weekly's 2024 programming. We will be returning from our brief holiday hiatus on January 4th with a whole new crop of short stories for your listening pleasure.

Kate DiCamillo is known as a children's fiction author and at WORDTheatre, we are all children when a great actor reads us a short story. Kate has published over 25 novels, including Because of Winn-Dixie, The Tiger Rising, The Tale of Despereaux, and she is the recipient of two Newbery Medals.

Julian Sands was a great friend to WORDTheatre for many years. A highly esteemed English actor known for his roles in such films as A Room With a View, The Killing Fields, Leaving Las Vegas, and Oceans 13. His death was a devastating loss and we are so grateful that we have a record of his remarkable WORDTheatre performances, recorded live in LA, NY and London.

On A Winter's Night by Kate DiCamillo was first published by Harper's Magazine, (December 2022). Used with permission by Pippin Properties, Inc. Please note that WORDTheatre holds the copyright to these recordings and no portion of anything you hear on the short story podcast may be reproduced without permission.

And now, here is Julian Sands performing "On A Winter's Night" by Kate DiCamillo.
