And here’s today’s news from Public Sector Executive – on Wednesday the 24th July 2024.

A new report from a number of charities linking to children and mental health has called on the government to overhaul the benefits system.
The report comes from the Centre for Mental Health, Save the Children UK, and the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition, and has outlined how living in poverty is devastating children’s mental health around the country. The main driver of this, according to the report, is the inadequate levels of benefits, as well as sanctions.
The Local Government Association has responded to the report, saying: “no child should ever live in poverty, Mental health problems are closely associated with poverty, poor housing, homelessness, disability, long-term illness, and experience of violence or abuse.”

The Competition and Markets Authority has announced that a new Chief Operating Officer will join the organisation.
With the current Chief Operating Officer retiring, Daniel Lambauer will step into the role in October, taking on responsibility for overseeing a number of teams in the corporate services directorate. Alongside this, Lambauer will work alongside the Chief Executive to offer organisational leadership and make sure that the CMA is able to achieve its strategic objectives.
Lambauer is currently Executive Director at the National Audit Office, with his responsibility being on Strategy and Resources. Before joining the NAO, Lambauer worked in a range of different sectors, with this including academia, the civil service, and management consultancy.

The Scottish Government has announced that investment is being committed to the delivery of new net-zero transport measures.
Thanks to a new, innovative, consortium, 252 new zero-emission buses will be delivered for Scotland’s, being supported by £41.7 million worth of Scottish Government funding. Alongside this, a nationwide charging network will be rolled out to be used by buses, coaches and HGVs.
This investment compliments other UK-wide projects to roll out zero emission public transport. The devolved government in Northern Ireland has invested around £100 million in buses and related infrastructure, whilst the Department for Transport’s Zero Emission Buses Regional Areas scheme allocated funding to councils around the country, including in Yorkshire, Oxfordshire, and Greater Manchester.
