The Lost Treasure Under the Sea
Welcome back to the VivaLing Podcast, kids’ edition, and hello, explorers! I’m calling you explorers because today’s podcast is a bit different. It’s a story, a mystery. A mystery is something that is secret. It has a problem, and ususally there are clues to help you. Today's story is called The Lost Treasure Under the Sea. Listen carefully. You will need to solve the mystery with Mia and Ben, two sea turtle friends who love adventure. Let’s begin!
Mia and Ben were exploring the ocean, as they usually did when they didn’t have to go to turtle school. They were looking for interesting things when Ben suddenly pointed at something in the water.
"Look!" he shouted.
A glass bottle floated slowly past them. Mia picked it up and opened it. (Inside the bottle, she found an old map. The paper was yellow and torn, but they could still read it. At the top of the map, someone had written: The Lost Treasure of Blue Bay
"Do you think it's real?" Ben asked.
"I don't know," said Mia, "but let's find out!"
The first clue: Pass the giant rock and continue north.
Excitedly, because they loved adventures, they set off to find the first clue. Soon, they saw a giant rock that looked like a whale. They dove past it. A few minutes later, they reached a place where the ocean path divided. One tunnel went left. One tunnel went right. The next clue on the old map said: Look for the cave with blue walls.
Which tunnel do you think they took? Listen for the answer.
Mia looked carefully. The tunnel on the left was dark grey. The tunnel on the right looked blue.
"That's our cave!" she said. They turned right and entered the tunnel. Inside the cave, they discovered something strange. There were old wooden boxes on the ocean floor. Some boxes were broken. Some were covered with sand. Ben opened one of them. It was empty. But underneath it, he found another clue. Follow the path between the two tall rocks.
Mia and Ben continued their journey. Soon, they reached two enormous rocks. The rocks were so tall that they could hardly see the top. Between them was a narrow passage. As they moved through it, the water suddenly became rough. A strong current pushed the two turtle friends sideways. For a moment, Mia lost control. But she stayed calm and slowly got back on the path.
At the end of the passage, they found an old shipwreck. Part of the ship was broken. Part of it was buried in the sand. A small metal box was laying beside the ship. Curious, they opened it. Inside the box was a golden key. There was also a note. It said: The treasure is hidden below.
Where do you think the treasure was hidden? Inside the ship, under the ship or behind the ship
Listen for the answer.
Mia and Ben searched around the ship. They looked inside. They looked behind it. Finally, Ben noticed something under the ship.
"There!" he shouted. Half of a treasure chest was sticking out of the sand. (The golden key fit perfectly. The chest slowly opened. Inside were gold coins, silver necklaces, and sparkling jewels. The treasure was real! But there was one more surprise. At the bottom of the chest, Mia found a small notebook. It belonged to the captain who had hidden the treasure many years ago. The last page said:"If you found this treasure, congratulations. The greatest treasure is not gold, however. It is adventure." Ben smiled.
"I think he was right."
Mia nodded. The treasure was amazing, but their journey was even better.
Now, let’s see what you remember.
What did Mia find inside the bottle? a treasure, a map or an old, yellow shirt?
If you said map, you got it!
What color was the correct cave? Blue, grey or green?
I hope you said blue.
Where was the treasure chest hidden? Behind the ship, in the ship or under the ship?
You are right if you said under.
I hope you enjoyed our story today, and I hope that you also like adventure. Your homework: Write 5 sentences to answer the question, “Do you think there are still hidden treasures in the world?” Tell it to your VivaLing coach or family member.
