A little clunky and too much Goodell and Bezos, but the first NFL game available only on a streaming platform delivered a huge audience.
Numbers are in for last weeks’ Chiefs-Chargers game carried on Amazon Prime. 13 million. That’s a big number and the most watched program of the night. Solid demographics. Average age was 47, 6 years younger than the typical NFL audience.
The game needed to deliver. Amazon is dropping about a $1 BILLION a year through 2033. Besides the advertising potential, the game generated massive signups for Prime. In fact, more signups than a what is seen for Prime Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday.
Plus, there’s the DirecTV partnership that allows Thursday Night Football to air in 300,000 bars, restaurants, hotels and casinos. With Prime’s 200 million subscribers, the potential audience is gigantic.
