House Speaker McCarthy surprised some people by getting a bipartisan spending bill through the House. Up to that point, he was trying to cobble together something all Republicans could get behind.
The deal keeps the government funded until November 17.
Was this a major breakthrough of bipartisanship? Will the parties come together to address massive fiscal deficits? Probably not. It just buys time so they can keep kicking the proverbial can down the road.
One perspective is that by bringing a last minute bipartisan deal forward it could force the Republican holdouts to play a bit more nicely to get a mid-November bill done. Time will tell.
