The Drop with Danno on GFN 광주영어방송

Big week for indie as we rebrand our Tuesday nights to Triggered Tuesdays to acknowledge the wrong and oh so right of this show. Great tunes from all over the map to check out, and big highlights from "franz" as JW calls them, and future guests.

Show Notes

As triggered on air September 20, 2022.  Tonight we rebrand our weekly traipse through The Great Indie Truffle Forest by rebranding it Triggered, because since Kat Bass arrived a year ago, there's just been way too much hyperventilation and eyes agog too numerous to take full account of.  A great start to season 8 for our indie show, with new tunes out from big time favorites of the show along with our special guest for Friday night Say She She!  (Speaking of hyperventilation)  Other highlights from Human Barbie, JW Francis, Sure Sure, and many more to taste test and make sure everything is just right for your discerning new music palette.

BEACHPEOPLE – fugazi
.com – Lover for Tonight
Say She She – Prism
Say She She – Lover for Tonight

Facts
The Byrds – Goin’ Back
- Very weird story here. We go back to this date in 1973.
- The body of The Byrds guitarist Gram Parsons is stolen and taken to Joshua Tree National Park, where it is set on fire.
- Parsons died the previous day after a visit to Joshua Tree when he took an overdose of alcohol and morphine. His body is at Los Angeles International Airport, scheduled to be flown to his family in New Orleans, but his friends Phil Kaufman and Michael Martin have other ideas: Showing up at the airport in Kaufman's hearse (his everyday vehicle), they claim the body, signing the release forms as "Jeremy Nobody."
- They head to Joshua Tree, about 200 miles away, stopping at a bar along the way where they drink a toast to Parsons. Arriving at the Cap Rock landmark in the park, they unload Parsons' casket, douse it with gas and set it on fire. Cap Rock has special significance, as it's where Parsons enjoyed an evening with Keith Richards doing peyote. The following day, authorities find the body, and Kaufman and Martin are later arrested, fined, and given suspended sentences. Kaufman claims that Parsons had asked for the desert consecration, and that he was simply carrying out his wishes. The incident becomes legend and provides Parsons with a far more elegant coda than his hotel room overdose.

Human Barbie – purple and red
- This is the moniker of Chris Leopold, who’s based in LA, and is the latest single from his upcoming EP, which is due out next month.
- And Chris will be a guest on the show October 7 to premiere a couple tunes from the EP, out the next week on the 12th via Poor Man Records, owned by our two favey fave faves Amber Bollinger and Chris Dezen, aka Broken Baby.
BEACHPEOPLE – fugazi
- This is an artist I’m not sure on too much of the details, but it’s definitely a solo project I believe based in Germany.
- At any rate, BEACHPEOPLE’s debut EP I’ll Be Gone For A Little While is out now, so do go and check it out.
.com – Lover for Tonight
- Here’s our try and find this artist challenge of the week. This is an artist that used to call himself Hawian Eagles, but has now gone onto more ambiguous and challenging shores.
- Lover for Tonight just dropped on Sunday, so lots of oddities going on here.
Say She She – Prism
Say She She – Lover for Tonight
- Season debuts this week, and we are very proud to announce that Say She She will be joining us this Friday, so do indeed mark it!
- For those unfamiliar, this is a 7 piece band headed up by a trio of ladies on the very harmonic vocals in Piya Malik, Nya Gazelle Brown, and Sabrina Mileo Cunningham.
- Prism is the title track to the album, which was originally slated for release this Friday but is now coming out Oct 7.
Part 2
Jeremy Zucker ft. BENEE - I'm So Happy*
O.WHEN - better now
easy life & Gus Dapperton - ANTIFREEZE
MAX ft. keshi - IT'S YOU
Sure Sure - 123
Good Wilson - Will It Ever Stop

Facts

Jeremy Zucker ft. BENEE - I'm So Happy* 2.53
- Hitting global stardom in 2018 with alt-poppy cut ‘all the kids are depressed’, New Jersey singer-songwriter Jeremy Zucker has teamed up with New Zealand pop superstar BENEE on new single ‘I’m So Happy’.
- Based around a bedroom pop meets bossa nova guitar loop, ‘I’m So Happy’ has Zucker at his best: singing about someone he adores.
- Lyrically, Zucker and BENEE sing of opposing views of a person, with Zucker being the good, and BENEE the bad, showing the clarity and regret after a relationship ending

O.WHEN - better now 3.09
- South Korean singer songwriter and now producer has released their latest, Better Now.
- This single is part of their independence project, as O.When is releasing music without influence of their management, and is expressing their own creative process as an artist.
- Adding on the list of countless love songs in the world, Better now is a message, saying, I don't need you. I'm better now without you.

easy life & Gus Dapperton - ANTIFREEZE 3.29
- Easy Life have shared a new track, ‘ANTIFREEZE’, featuring Gus Dapperton.
- The song is the fourth teaser of the Leicester gang’s sophomore record, ‘Maybe In Another Life’, set for release on the 7th of October.
- Speaking about the track, Easy Life explain:
- “We wrote this on Zoom in Jan last year, it was freezing cold, I had set up the studio in a barn and Gus was in snowy New York,” they continue. “We wrote the song inspired by the winter and all its icy emotions.”

MAX ft.keshi - IT'S YOU 2.53
- MAX has made remarkable songs with many different artists including Chromeo, Quinn XCII(92) and BTS’s Suga. Now adding singer Keshi to the list, the two artists have collabed and released today's sweet pick, It's You
- the song will likely be featured on MAX’s upcoming album, which he teased the release of in August (sadly with no date).
- It's a romantic song that I feel will sweeten up the chilling loneliness of fall.

Sure Sure - 123 ///3.58
- Sure Sure is an experimental pop band from Los Angeles, California. The highly collaborative group has been releasing music since 2014.
- Perched on a hill in Highland Park, the boys self-produce all their music in their house-turned-studio
- As the first and title track to their newest 6 track EP, 123, today's pick is a good starter to your new growing interest of Sure Sure.

Good Wilson - Will It Ever Stop 3.25
- Austrian dream-pop quartet Good Wilson has released another defining sound, Will It Ever Stop
- Playing music since 2019, this band has some interestingly titled tracks that doesn't sound as how they are named, one example being Bats from the buffet, which was also released back in March of this year.
- I'm intrigued with Good Wilson and their steady rise in indie rock, I hope I get to hear more in the near future.

Part 3
JW Francis - I Wanna Be Your Basketball
Preloved - Turn Me Round
Midi Memory - Internal Dream
The Plastic Cherries - Lovers On The Run
Glom - 12:21
The Academic - Don't Take It Personally

Facts

JW Francis - I Wanna Be Your Basketball 2.25
- Indie rocker JW Francis is one of the goofiest indie rockers stationed in America right now.
- With last year being an awesome coming-out party, featuring the great LP WANDERKID, our artist is ready to surprise us with more.
- There’s a whole new album ready to run at the start of 2023: Dream House. As a preview of the upcoming LP, Francis has shared his latest single, the catchy and positively weird ‘I Wanna Be Your Basketball’.
- Francis explains, The song is about a feeling I’ve been singing a lot about lately – the feeling of wanting to break out and be something else,”

Preloved - Turn Me Round 3.57
- Once again during research and almost led astray with a suggested article about new discovery in science, which had NOTHING to do with our band or song,
- Preloved has released their first ever single, Turn Me Round.
- Preloved is actually a part from Canadian Duo Chemical Club, a band introduced last week to our audience.
- The bandmate just wanted to share their own sound on the side that just doesn't go with the band.

Midi Memory - Internal Dream 3.52
- Florida synth-driven dream-pop act Midi Memory has unveiled the video for “Eternal Dream,”.
- Like its overall aural effect, the song is as much a breath of fresh air as it is warm and nostalgic.
- A project led by Matt Messore of Cathedral Bells their sound evokes a melange of post-punk influences drawing upon classic and modern darkwave and synthpop.
- Eternal Dream” is part of Midi Memory’s forthcoming sophomore LP, which is planned for release in 2023.

The Plastic Cherries - Lovers On The Run 4.28
- A twangy jubilation resonates throughout the affirming “Lovers On The Run,” a new single from The Plastic Cherries.
- This delightful throwback rocker recalls the likes of Fleetwood Mac, and modern nostalgia-pop bringers like Tennis.
- Showing rollicking guitars and a bouncy piano lead with suave vocals the duo tell of two lovers escaping from the “normies” and finding the place their hearts are finally free.

Glom - 12:21 ///2.37
- Now going through some research, it seems our band Glom is gaining some serious attraction in other foreign countries than the country they are based from.
- The American band Glom released on their newest single "12:21".
- Traveling between Indie and Garage Rock, the song stands out with it's good melodies and pleseant vibes.
- I hope I get to see more attention for the duo from U.S as much as they are seeked over international waters.

The Academic - Don't Take It Personally 3.41
- The Academic have returned with “Don’t Take It Personally“, their first single of 2022.
- The track is accompanied by a one-take live video, shot during a recent UK festival performance.
- Back on track, The New single ‘Don’t Take It Personally’ arrives ahead of the Irish band’s major label debut – the follow-up to their self-released debut album – due via Capitol Records in 2023.

Part 4
chilldspot - Like?
Nerd Connection - Pablo
Daya - New Romantics
Blood Orange ft. Erika De Casier & Eva Tolkin - Relax and Run
Josephine Odhil - Familiars
The Black Skirts - John Fry

Facts

chilldspot - Like? 2.34
- chilldspot - a band name combining word “chill, child, spot, and pot” . The Four member based in Tokyo were formed and active since 2019.
- They released their first EP, "the youth night" in November 2020, which landed them to be one of the most anticipated fresh band's on the radar.
- With groove and genre-less, carefree attitude their music offers, they playfully dance around different sounds with their style.
- Our pick is their newest single, Titles. If you like what you hear, go check em out.

Nerd Connection - Pablo 3.33
- We are back to South Korea with indie rock band Nerd Connection and their latest single, Pablo.
- Written and produced on their own, the song is the story of the life and death of a very lucky person.
- He easily had everything, but in the end had nothing; having to endure the fortune of overflowing misfortune for the rest of his life. This song is the last moments that the band have drawn.

Daya - New Romantics 3.02
- Daya released her new 3 track single, In Between Dreams with two new visuals for “New Romantics” and “See You In My Dreams.”
- It is said they will be featured in her upcoming EP.
- “The songs on the new EP deal with that gray area in between dreams and reality,” Daya said of her new offering, adding she uses music to “find my own voice and identity.”
- I wish I had the talent enough to find my identity through beautiful music like Daya.

Blood Orange ft. Erika De Casier & Eva Tolkin - Relax and Run 3.04
- Dev Hynes / Blood Orange has released his first new music since 2019. The EP, titled Four Songs, was written and produced by Hynes himself, and features collaborations with Ian Isaiah, Eva Tolkin and Erika de Casier. I'll leave you to guess how many songs it has.
- Four Songs feels like vintage Blood Orange: downbeat, sultry, sharply produced and a little melancholy in parts.
- Back in 2020, he said that a new full-length album was already completed, with no release date, so it seems we have a surprise on our mitts.

Josephine Odhil - Familiars 3.40
- A bit difficult to catagorize, but Psychedelic dream pop artist Josephine Odhil released their latest dark indie sound, Familiars.
- Her vocals here are superb, kind of foggy, but hitting just the perfect melodic touch.
- It is said the song is about the mysterious spirits of plants, and nothing more?
- Definitely easy to find yourself lost in Odhil’s world, she’s set to drop her debut album at some point next year.

The Black Skirts - John Fry 5.13
- South Korean indie rock musician Jo Hyu-il, also known as The Black Skirts has finally released their latest fifth album Teen Troubles!
- Skimming through the album, you can definitely tell it's a summer inspired, Everything will be left as a memory and will be played on repeat, type of album.
- Apparently, the album is said to be based on a love letter he sent in 1999 when he was 17 years old. So sweet!
- Our pick, John Fry is the 16th track of the album.
- There's also a short film alongside the album, so go check it out!!
