I'm D.J. Rasmussen, O.K.s friend since junior high, possibly your neighbor & this websites maintainer, whom strives to get each episode's show notes written, the transcript proofed and the audio posted to the internet within a few hours of that days KMMR air time. NOTE: recently been publishing most new releases by 4:30PM.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy the time we can spend together.
Hey. What you doing? I wanna again welcome you to The 405 Coffee Break. Get your cup of coffee, glass of iced tea, your bottled water. Let's see what's happening.
OK Solberg:Spring wheat $5.98 a bushel. 550lb steer calf $5.05 on the top end. Butcher hog in Iowa 69ยข a pound, and a fat lamb in Billings weighting 100lbs will fetch you $3 and 8 pennies, $3.08 But, guys, there's more, much more.
OK Solberg:Hey. Have you ever seen the Shawshank Redemption? The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 American drama based on the 1982 Stephen King novella called Rita Hayward and Shawshank Redemption. The film tells the story of a banker, Andy Dufresne, who is played by Tim Robbins, who is sentenced to life imprisonment in Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murders of his wife and her lover despite his claims of innocence. Now guys, if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
OK Solberg:Great movie. Great movie. What I say about this movie is this. If any person walked into their motel room while they were traveling, threw their bags in the corner, plopped down on the bed, and turned on the TV, And if the Shawshank Redemption was planned, it wouldn't matter which part of the movie they tuned in on. If it was half over or 3 minutes in or just before it ended.
OK Solberg:If they watch 5 minutes anywhere, anywhere within the movie, they would wanna watch the whole movie. It is that good. Now let me say something else. I like to say most of my education came from movies and songs. Now that's a bit of a stretch, but I have learned much from movies and songs.
OK Solberg:And in this movie, I heard the word obtuse used, and it was used more than once. Now is obtuse a word you throw out there frequently? Is it? Obtuse describe someone slow to understand, insensitive, or thick headed, or simply slow to understand what is obvious or simple. The Bible doesn't use the word obtuse, but it often speaks of that same concept.
OK Solberg:Listen from Matthew 13:15 For the people's heart has grown dull and with their ears they can barely hear and their eyes they half closed. Again, Matthew 13 verse 15. Now that is obtuse. But as I thought about the word obtuse, and I like to think a lot, I realized it's similar to the word ignorant.
OK Solberg:But but upon closer examination, obtuse is way, way worse than ignorant. See, ignorant simply means you don't know. Like, hey, do you know how to pull a calf? Have you assisted a cow and given birth and you reach inside and find the legs and hook your chain around the legs of the baby calf and pull it with the calf puller? Have you done it?
OK Solberg:Now I know many listeners have, but I also know this, that many listeners have not. So if you have not, it's safe to say you're ignorant in the skills of pulling a calf. That doesn't make you a bad person. That doesn't mean you're stupid. That simply means you've never been taught.
OK Solberg:That simply means you were ignorant in pulling a calf. See the greatness of ignorance? Ignorant can be fixed. Obtuse, on the other hand, is a whole different cat. Obtuse is hearing all the facts, being informed on the subject, and yet you still come to the wrong conclusion or the wrong immoral action.
OK Solberg:But like Paul Harvey used to say, wash your ears out with this. If you had 3 doors on Let's Make a Deal and behind door #1 there was stupid, and behind door #2 there was ignorant, And then finally, behind door #3 there was obtuse. Guys, I'm begging you. I'm pleading with you. Take door #2.
OK Solberg:Ignorant. See, because ignorant can easily be fixed, and I like things that are fixed. If you must wear one of those labels, let it be ignorance because ignorance is unfinished. It's not broken. It's just unfinished.
OK Solberg:It's the starting line of curiosity, the quiet admission that there's still something worth learning. Unlike the others, it carries an open door instead of a locked one. And in a world that rewards growth, ignorance isn't a flaw, it's potential waiting to be realized.
OK Solberg:So until next time, as you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
