Challenging myself to record a podcast episode a day for my 50th year on this planet.
Hello and welcome to the
Dailyish for August 29th, 2026.
I'm recording an episode every day
for this, my 50th year on the planet.
I just recorded a whole
episode and realized afterwards
that the mic was muted.
So on top of it being, uh, 11:53 now
PM, and just realizing that I had to
get an episode out, which actually was
10 minutes ago, and then realizing I
had muted the mic and wasn't recording
what I thought was a quick episode,
now I have to do it in even less time.
So, at any rate, it won't be the last
time, I'm sure, where I have a, "Oh,
shoot, I need to record an episode."
And I think probably when I record
later in the day, which I did on Friday,
and then now this is obviously even
l-later, it feels kind of like my day is
covered, like I did it already, um, when
I record an episode so late like that.
So back into the sc- swing of things
next week with kids in school and
regular scheduled life, I think will
help with both batch recording in
advance as well as having a few more
topics that I can just write down
throughout the day when I'm working
and record episodes based off that.
So for now, I'm going to endeavor
to finish recording this in time
so that I can edit and publish it
before midnight to meet my deadline.
But, uh, today we had, my wife's sister
and her kids over for supper, and did
s- a very traditional Mennonite, my,
my background is Mennonite, family's
background is Mennonite, and a meal
called rollkuchen, rollkuchen and
watermelon generally, and then a bit
of farmer sausage on the side it's
a basically deep-fried donut kind of
dish, or dish, meal, dipped in syrup
to make it extra tasty and, uh, veryâ¦
It's a traditional meal in my family
as well as, um, an extended family or
whatever, my extended family, and then
we've carried it on in our family.
But it's a great summer meal and,
uh, that's what we had tonight.
And then with my, sister-in-law's
kids, we watched, along with some of
my kids, we watched Backrooms, and it's
a kind of a bit of a thriller, spooky
kind of movie that leaves you sort of
wondering what the heck you just watched.
It's a little bit overhyped maybe in
terms of at least internet culture.
It's definitely cool and an interesting
commentary on, without spoiling
anything, commentary on trauma and
how it affects those around you.
But I don't know, I was kind of-- I,
I gave it three and a half stars out
of five in my Letterboxd review, but,
We'll see how it sticks with me and
my brain tomorrow and the next day.
Okay, I have to stop now so
I can finish this in time.
But hopefully you had, you had a good day.
Thanks for listening.
Talk to you next time.
Bye.
